"that honour goes to the Yeager-class."

Nothing more hideous has ever come out of Star Trek. Even Neelix didn't amount to what could be considered a violation of the Geneva convention.

Yeah the Yeager is just plain bad, and it's a shame since the name it carries is of a rather important historical figure.

Personally I think that the Universe class edges the Yeager out in the sheer ugly department...but just barely.

I haven't seen the Universe class. Is it really that bad?

Did you mean the ENT Enterprise J? It's...yeah, it's a bit bad. I do like that it's a grown ship instead of a massive constructed ship.

Yup, the Enterprise-J. Ungodly abomination that COULD have been cool but ended up way to spindly

Seems to me that kitbashing shouldn't be dismissed out of hand if it results in a coherent design. I think it's important to recognize that the art and effects departments on the shows had limited resources, and ought to be commended when they can make something from nothing.

And no, the yeager class is not covered by this sentiment.

Star Trek has had some amazing kitbashes. The W359 fleet has arguably the most well thought out kitbashes of the entire series.

I fully agree, and it's a shame that they could not be reused later. The sheer variety would have definitely aided the scenery in the Dominion War.

Hell the mere existence of those ships made it seem like the Federation fleet was actually a fleet with cruisers and frigates and destroyers etc instead of just a collection of old relics like the Miranda and the occasional new starship.

The Centaur is probably my favourite example.

Description

The Mazarites from ENT: 'Fallen Hero' return as neutrals in Ages of the Federation, with another fantastic model provided by The_Undying_Nephalim.

There's an interesting story behind the makeup of the Mazarite cruiser's model. When it originally appeared on Enterprise it was, admittedly, a kitbash. The main hull section is comprised of the spine and wings or a Romulan D'deridex warbird model, while the ventral sections include the head of a Maquis raider, the tail section of an Intrepid-class starship, and some elements of a Klingon Bird of Prey. Neph has modified the model seen here to make it all a bit more smoothly integrated than the original.

This ship has been slightly divisive among the team. While some of us don't like the idea of kitbashing so many elements from so many ships, others feel that while the ship may be a kitbash, the overall look works and it's far from the worst such amalgamation in existence - that honour goes to the Yeager-class.

What do you think?
