Ship's Log: USS Constitution: Admiral William Jefferies commanding;

Nothing tests a ship quite like combat. Maneuvering, reaction time, speed, shield and hull endurance, weapons capability, the lot. We had our biggest test today against the D-7. I'm happy to say that we passed with flying colors.

The IKS Hor'Cha had been terrorizing the sector for weeks hitting every convoy and station flying Federation colors and everything we sent after it came either limping back or in pieces, if at all. With the Manzar Colony in such danger, I decided to take the Constitution for a 'practical shakedown,' as it were. The ship was more than ready for the challenge.

The new engines made quite the impression on everyone and I think even the Klingons were taken aback by the shields. That's twice we've been able to get ahead of Klingon technology in three years. Hopefully, we've given them something to think about. Though I know that's wishful thinking.

We'll patrol the sector for a while longer then rendezvous with the fleet at Yiridia. We're expecting the Klingons to make a major push there. We've got the speed to react quickly enough if we're wrong. I just don't relish the idea of being the only ship in the sector when the time comes.

"The only sure way to test a combat vessel, is combat." Amazing job.

A very awesome shot. Well done. :)

I'm curious:
I've noticed that you're using the TOS-series design for the Connie rather than the one from "The Cage". What made you go for the former rather than the latter?

The main reason was that the TOS Constitution looks better.

It's the version most people associate with the 1701.

Description

USS Constitution intercepts the battlecruiser Hor'Cha.

In the closing days of 2244, the powerful D-7 IKS Hor'Cha was wreaking havoc in Sector 441, damaging and destroying Federation infrastructure and menacingly circling the Manzar Colony like a hungry predator. Though fully capable of assaulting the colony directly, the Hor'cha's mission was simply to keep Starfleet's operations in the sector off balance, not to engage the Federation fleet.

That said, the Hor'Cha was still a menace. Half the Federation stations and outposts in the sector had been raided by the powerful battlecruiser. Besides the Manzar Colony, the Hor'Cha also posed a threat to Risa - the famed planet of pleasure - and to Evora - home to a diminutive species of humanoids that had yet to achieve space flight. Several attempts had been made to drive the powerful battlecruiser off, the most recent of which ended with the USS Europa and USS Aztec limping home with scorched hulls. The D-7 was simply too powerful.

As the Hor'Cha headed at Warp 4 toward its next target - a small trading post in the Kantare system - it detected a Federation warp signature unlike any seen before, coming in on an intercept course at a stunning Warp 8.2. Dropping to impulse near a loose asteroid field at the edge of the Kantare system, the D-7 came about to meet this new challenger. Seconds later, the Hor'Cha came face to face with its opponent - the USS Constitution, fully operational, and ready for battle.

On the Constitution's bridge, Admiral William Jefferies hailed the Hor'Cha, ordering the Klingons to withdraw. Their response, predictably, was a burst of disruptor fire, absorbed with ease by the Consititution's shield grid. The two mighty vessels chased each other around the asteroids of Kantare, exchanging weapons fire until the Klingons' shields finally fell. With a volley of photon torpedoes that ripped the Hor'Cha apart, USS Constitution both proved itself and won the Federation's first victory over the D-7.
