This mod pack uses Agamemnon's Skeleton mod, dark_blade's bats mod and ROR_Sir_Williams Dragon mod. Detailed credits are provided.

What if vampires had empires? This is the idea that started it all. Since then I have been mixing modern Horror Cliché with traditional Slavic mythology and hints towards the dark chapters of Romanian history. The result is something like an Eastern European Age of Mythology. With a bit of black humour...

Warning: (This I should have done earlier) the depiction of violence in Age of Vampires borders on cynical and exceeds that in the original game. If you feel offended by the depiction of humiliated human beings, even only in a game, do not download. I do not favor any kind of violence in real life, the brutality depicted here is however an accurate match of the traditional vampire-mythology.

-new unit:

A ranged, axe-throwing vampiric knight replaces the cavalry

archer for the Bathory Clan. Slightly stronger than a regular mounted

archer and causing damage in a radius, but unfortunately, due to some

incomprehensive bug does not damage buildings.

-new building:

The Transsylvanian peasants have an own unique wonder

now. A hide-out/fortress that was originally intended to shelter

people and shoot arrows, unfortunately that didn't work, because this

piece of data-edit crashes the game, but still nice to look at.

-new graphics:

The forest-spirit, Leshy, which torments your villagers

comes with a new look, distinguishable from the Viking Berserk. The

Witchhunter is less stiff when standing (the torch-flame moves a bit)

and in regicide the Vrkolak have a new appearance for their king (and

a different name).

-new data edits:

To keep up with the other strongly over-powered

fractions, the Transsylvanians and Vrkolak have received some new extra

bonus. The Transsylvanians can shelter villagers in churches, which

then shoot arrows and their spearmen cost 50% less. The Vrkolak pay

50% less for villagers and their female nature spirits (Samodiva) have

+1 range, as to compensate for the otherwise poor quality of ranged

units. Overall female spirits now have an attack-bonus against siege

weapons and those of the Dracul Clan (Iele) have the strongest attack.

Very well made mod, Sir.
But there is one thing in the description that I have to correct:
We Romanians are not of Slavic ethnicity, like Bulgarians or the Ukrainian people. The composition of our gene-pool (for lack of a better term) and our language have been somewhat impacted by these, for sure, but we're mostly descendants of the Thracian and Dacians, as well as some Romans (and for the last 3 hundredth years Gypsys) mixed in. That's maybe why we as people are considered strange, even by Russian standards. :)

I would encourage everybody to check out the history of the real Dracula, if only for one reason: The historical Dracula was infinitely crueler, crazier and bloodthirstier than in any of the Vampire legends. :D

I am very aware of the Romanian's uniqueness, but admittedly the description could promote misunderstandings, it is not meant as Romanians being Slavic, but rather that vampire-mythology is shared among Romanians and Slavs (like the words 'vampir' and 'varcolac' are Slavic, but used by Romanians as well).

I had forgotten to give the witches of the Báthory Clan the ability to fly, so together with other peanuts, here comes another update with not much new. I expect, though, to start working on part II over a few months.

Unfortunately I have not covered the full range of Eastern European mythology. Albania certainly deserves a credit in this, but art never is a complete representation of reality so there are shortcommings, cetainly. Hope you can still enjoy, greetings, Ivo

I don't suppose you could add a clan of werewolves, and some gargoyle units as well?

Ivacula Nov 21 2012, 1:01pm replied:

Gargoyles will appear in part II. Part I is strictly about Eastern European mythology and there are no gargoyles there. Werewolves do appear already as the Vrkolak, 'Vrkolak' are vampire-werewolves from Slavic mythology.
