Age of Chivalry is a total conversion for Half-Life 2 currently being developed by Team Chivalry. We are a close group of friends who are dedicated to creating a fun story driven multiplayer experience set in a fantasy world in the medieval ages. We are creating a fast paced and fun first person melee combat system that will take the player to a new level of immersion. The players will be able to take part in sieges, town raids and open war in a story driven game. Our goal is to let the players write the history of the game as the teams battle it out over a sequence of user controlled map cycles depending on the victor. We want to take the overall experience to a new level of fun. All of our members have a solid modding background and we hope that you support our modification as it grows and develops!

Preview Thursday #4 - Upholding The Bloodline

This week's Question of the Week: What game in your opinion has the best Melee Combat ever and why?

This week we take an in depth look at aoc_invasion, where the battle takes place over a map that divulges the secret location of an ancient Monastery. Drakir our Team Lead and Lead Mapper has for a long time felt that the first map released for the Return to Castle Wolfenstein Multiplayer Demo "Beach" also known as mp_beach would fit our game perfect.

Finally he decided he couldn't put off his dream anymore and made an AoC version of the map, its not a clone but its built on the basic layout and initial idea of the gameplay from the great Beach map.

Mason order Attacks from the smaller rowing boats that have landed on the beach. With them they have brought several barrels full of black powder. There are two weak spots in the Agathian Defenses, a section of the outer wall and a door to the left that leads to the guardhouse. Each section will take 3 barrels of powder to destroy.

Once they have placed the 3 barrels a cry of "volley" will ring out, signaling for the soldiers on the ship to fire on the location. (This is automated, so once all the barrels are placed Catapult fire starts coming from the ship)

Once the wall and/or door is breached the Mason Order can capture the forward spawnpoint. This capture point is a point that the Agathians can retake at a later point in the game and have the Mason Team pushed back to the boats again.

This is a shot from the top floor. The attackers must get to this floor by navigating a series of trenches and take then several paths inside to get down to the inner castle and steal a map (which shows how to locate the monastery, referring to aoc_monastery, a map to come in a future release).

The main goal for the Mason Order is to get all the way down to the inner parts of the castle and grab a map, this map needs to be brought to the rowing boats to win the game. The Agathians have 20 minutes to defend the map until the Prince's Army will arrive, back on the field from his recent rescue in aoc_siege.

The idea for the map to fit the standard main story is:
As the map Monastery Hill is about where the crown for the coronation is hidden and guarded. This map is the document that tells where the fabled monastery is located.

Storyline:

With the death of his father, the Agathian Prince is desperately seeking to be crowned as the new King to gain respect from his peers and support from the nobles of the land. A crownless king wields little power, he must prevent the Masons from locating his crown and disrupting his chances at reuniting the kingdom. He has commanded his troops defending this castle to defend this map to their last breath, if they can hold long enough the mighty Prince's Army that rescued him from a Mason prison will arrive and overwhelm the invading Mason forces. The Mason's know the castle holds the map to the monastery and crown that they so desperately seek to control. If the Mason Leader were to obtain this glorious artifact and be crowned as king then those who were reluctant to join his cause before would surely support him in this struggle. This is not a battle with an outcome of only a victory or defeat, rather it is a battle that may very well decide the outcome of the entire war. Will the Agathian defenders hold off the vicious invasion of the Mason Order long enough to be relieved by the Prince's army and be one step closer to crowning their rightful heir or will the Masons once again snatch power from beneath an already faltering Agathian force? That question my lord, can be answered only by the edge of your blade and the fury of your battle cry....
