Concentrating on the late medieval period, Age of Chivalry: Hegemony replaces or significantly alters each of the civilizations in the original game, while also adding a number of new ones, allowing the player to control Central and Western European states. Many new units and technologies have been added and gameplay dynamics have been changed considerably in this complete overhaul of Age of Empires II.

Play as Austria, Bavaria, Bohemia, Brandenburg, Brittany, Burgundy, Denmark, England, Flanders, Florence, France, Friesland, Genoa, Guelders, Helvetia, Hungary, Liège, Milan, Naples, the Papal States, Poland, Savoy, Saxony, Scotland, Venice, or Wales. Fight against your friends or the AI through random maps or on newly crafted real world maps of Central Europe, Western Europe, Northern Italy or the Low Countries, or play through the unique historical eight-scenario campaign. Explore a whole new medieval period in Age of Chivalry: Hegemony!

A new version of Age of Chivalry: Hegemony has been released, adding new graphics and fixing balance issues and bugs.

Age of Chivalry: Hegemony map

In version 2.0, no fewer than 26 countries are available to the player: Austria, Bavaria, Bohemia, Brandenburg, Brittany, Burgundy, Denmark, England, Flanders, Florence, France, Friesland, Genoa, Guelders, Helvetia, Hungary, Liège, Milan, Naples, the Papal States, Poland, Savoy, Saxony, Scotland, Venice, and Wales.

Scottish settlement

The new version addresses some balance issues, for instance toning down overpowered priests by giving them a modest training cost increase for each technology you research that will boost their conversion abilities.

Teutonic Order town

Graphically speaking, this version not only adds a ton of new eye-candy objects, but also improves and completes the two existing building sets for the Baltic countries (Brandenburg, Denmark and Saxony) and the Low Countries (Flanders, Friesland and Guelders). In addition, a number of isolated building graphics have also been replaced or improved, such as the Scottish Princely Court or the Milanese Castle. All these updates should give version 2.0 a much more polished feel.

You can get version 2.0 HERE.

Does this game have it's own servers? Could it somehow be compatible with GameRanger?

It's actually listed as a separate game on Gameranger, but you need to rename aoc.exe to age2_x1.exein order to make it work, and I think copy The Age of Chivalry campaign from Games/Age of Chivalry/Scenario to Campaign as well.

Okay, I understand that. But I am a little intimidated as I don't know why I need to do that.

Did someone make a video on this? Is this something other people do?

The mod switches to full screen the moment you start a scenario or random map, but if you want to change the resolution of the main menu as well, open the SetupAoC.exe file in your main AoE2 directory, which configures the settings of the Userpatch (which comes with Age of Chivalry). Here you can toggle this setting.

I only have the Mac version of Age of Empires II. I'm able to get almost everything in this mod working on the Mac version, including graphics and data, just not the text and more than 18 civilizations.
The former doesn't work because the Mac version uses some other type of file for language, language_x1, language_x1_p1, which annoyingly has no extension and is described only as "Age of Empires II Document." If I try to replace these files with the language DLLs that come with the mod, the game crashes after the intro videos. All other files are the same format in both versions and I can replace them with the mod's.
The latter doesn't work because I can't figure out how to or even if I can get the UserPatch to work on the Mac version.
I don't suppose anyone has a solution to either of these problems?

I don't think Userpatch works on Mac. You'll probably have to use something like Bootcamp or PlayonMac

That's too bad. The game is still playable, as frustrating as it is not having unit descriptions. I'll probably just have to buy the Windows version of the game, as I already have Bootcamp.

Also, the AI that comes with the mod doesn't work for me. I get the error:

AI Script Error

Player [highest #]
File Barbarian.per
ERR5001: File open failed

All AI files are installed in the correct (?) AI folder. How can I reset the standard AI to the one the game uses by default?

The AI utilises the features of the Userpatch, and without the Userpatch installed it won't work. The standard AoK AI doesn't account for any of the neew technologies, units, buildings, or countries, so that wouldn't work either.

Some AI, even incomplete, is better than none. If I knew what file sets which AI the game uses by default I should be able to replace it with an AI that works on my version (whether it's the default AI or one I've downloaded), and I might even be able to add the new technologies etc. to this AI. (Where does the game even keep default AI files?)
