Concentrating on the late medieval period, Age of Chivalry: Hegemony replaces or significantly alters each of the civilizations in the original game, while also adding a number of new ones, allowing the player to control Central and Western European states. Play as Austria, Bavaria, Bohemia, Brandenburg, Brittany, Burgundy, Denmark, England, Flanders, Florence, France, Friesland, Genoa, Guelders, Helvetia, Liège, Milan, Poland, Savoy, Saxony, Scotland, Venice, or Wales. Fight against your friends or the AI through random maps or on newly crafted real world maps of Central Europe, Western Europe, Northern Italy or the Low Countries, or play through the unique historical eight-scenario campaign. After a considerable time in production, the long ago promised new version of Age of Chivalry: Hegemony has finally arrived! It adds five new countries - Florence, Milan, Venice, Liège, and Brandenburg - each with unique features and distinctive character.

Teutonic Order fortress

Command Italian Condottieri and Liègeois Haidroits, Brandenburger Junkers or Venetian Stradiots. Construct magnificent monuments, such as the church of St Mark of Venice, the Duomo of Florence or the St Lambert cathedral of Liège.

Florentine Guild Hall

Take a stand when advancing your country through the centuries: as Milan, will you favour the Lombard League or the rise of the Visconti Signoria? As Venice, will you look to the sea or the land? As Liège, will you side with the rebellious citizenry or the ruling bishops? Or read about each country in the history section.

Florence

The eighteen original countries have not been neglected, either. Many units have new graphics and many more building graphics have been added while some old graphics have been improved. Some countries have been rebalanced after much testing and a new AI is now included which poses much more of a challenge than the old AI ever did. Furthermore, many new objects have been included for scenario designers to use.

I have a problem playing the mod because I have the collector edition of age of empires.
It doesn't recognize the disc on the drive I tried different patches with different effects as making the game impossible to play since it doesn't recognize the disk, and it doesn't work with the unofficial 1.1 patch ...

Hi, if you have the Collector's Edition you don't need to install any patch because it already has the C-patch installed - installing it again will actually cause the disc problem you mention. I have the same version of AoK:TC and, on a basic install of this edition, you can immediately install Age of Chivalry: Hegemony. Hopefully this will work for you as well!

Unfortunately it refuses to install otherwise it says my version is an invalid 1.0c hence the fact I tried to patch it or even upgrade to 1.1 which makes the mod asking for a disk :(

Not at the moment, although more countries may be added at some point in the future. :) However, as I am working on this alone and also have a full-time job, adding new civs is going to take a lot of time to get right. Also, because countries in Age of Chivalry tend to have more bonuses than they do in AoK:TC, it is actually quite hard to invent bonuses for new civs. ;)

Actually you could change Austria into Hungary, because Cuman mercenaries were more prominent in Hungarian history. Ofcourse that is just a suggestion and being a modder myself I know it hurts a bit to change big things that already look good as they are... but in terms of 'ethnic balance' you already have alot of German-civs (or you could make a decision tree where Austria joins forces with Hungary and then Cuman mercenaries become available, that way Hungary is at least implied in the game).

Prussia only became an important state after the middle ages. The rise of the Hohenzollern (the dukes of Brandenburg who would later also acquire Prussia) only truly started in the early 15th century, when they became confidantes of Emperor Sigismund and played a prominent role in the Hussite Wars. Prior to that, the most important German dynasties were those of Bavaria, Austria and Luxembourg (which acquired Bohemia).

Cuman auxiliaries played a decisive role in the Austrian army in one of the most important (and famous) battles of the German middle ages, the battle of the Marchfeld. Austria itself was actually one of the most important states in the Holy Roman Empire and played a more decisive role in European history than many of the other states included. The union of Austria and Hungary didn't take place until after the middle ages, so merging them in Age of Chivalry isn't really an option.

Of course, if I were to add Hungary at some point (and I am not talking about replacing an already existing country, but adding a new one), I could easily give them access to the Cuman Auxiliary unit as well, as I have done something similar to some other countries. Of the Eastern European countries (or Central European, depending on your definition) they are certainly at the top of my list.

Also, unlike the original game, I am not striving for 'ethnic balance'. I am adding states that seem relevant because they interacted with other states in the mod, and that are also interesting to play because they offer a somewhat unique military experience. Certainly, Hungary ticks all those boxes. But first of all I would probably want to spice up the Italian experience.

(Incidentally, whether a country was important or influential isn't really taken into account in selecting new states - after all, a good many of the countries you can play in Age of Chivalry presently would not pass such a test. That's what makes it stand out: it's not just a selection of the exact same countries you can play in every other medieval strategy game.)

I agree and always liked that about your mod. It also increased my historical knowledge. Otherwise I would still believe Hungary to be the most Western country to employ Cuman warriors.

Like I said, it's quite difficult to invent bonuses for new countries that are still historical. If you have any suggestions for Hungary (and I imagine there may be many different possibilities, what with the Cumans and the Black Army of the 15th century) I'll be happy to hear them and see if I can use any. That would potentially speed up future inclusion of Hungary in the future!

That Hungarians used Cuman mercenaries and invented the Hussar-Cavlry will hardly add to originality, even the Black Army thing is being currently exploited in other mod projects. But if I am not mistaken, they are among the founding countries of the 'Dragon Order', from which Dracula got his name. Not sure if you are already doing this, because I played only 5 of the civs in your mod, but maybe not a bad idea to generally include the different historical knight orders as technologies.

Yeah, at the moment 'Chivalric Order' is a standard technology for all countries that get the Princely Court (as well as the Teutonic Order iirc), as it was a very common feature in the 15th century. The Orders of England (Order of the Garter), Burgundy (Order of the Golden Fleece) etc are also very famous. The technology benefits knightly units, so it sounds like something that should be available to Hungary.
