AFTERWARDS is a near future realism total conversion for Quake 3 Arena. Featuring single-player, multi-player, intense sustained respawn and survivor style death-match game-modes, and multiple objective story based objective game-play; Afterwards delivers the punch and intensity of Action games with the play sophistication of dedicated Realism games and mods.

Eighteen weapons including: handguns, sub-machine guns, carbines, shotguns, sniper rifles, flame throwers, a mini gun, two kinds of grenades, and particle beam weapons flesh out Afterwards incredible armory offering a slew of realistic near-future weapons both conventional and exotic.

Eleven rich level designs that offer incredible immersive cinematic atmosphere that won't run your frame rates into the ground! Each Afterwards level design offers a unique mission design and supports game-play for games large and small with features for every type, kind and style of play possible from fast raid and assault style to stealthy hit and displace tactics; Afterwards really has something for everyone.

Afterwards is heavily optimized to play well on the minimum Quake 3 Arena system requirement and features a complete implementation of Neal "Haste" Toronto's sophisticated Unlagged™ Hit-Testing™, lag-compensation and Skip-Correction™ net-code; offering fantastic game-play for dial-up FPS fans at pings that would be unplayable on other games and mods (except Navy SEAL/s: Covert Operations), and LAN like play at pings that would be considered adequate on other games.

On the night before Christmas 24 December 2002 the AFTERWARDS Dev Team announced the end of development of their Q3A Mod AFTERWARDS and in a benevolent gesture donated all their source code to the Q3A Mod community... So while Afterwards is technically no longer under development, anyone can pick up the source update, tweak, modify or expand Afterwards in completely new directions!

Features:

· highly optimized design for low hardware requirement
· superb play on Q3A minimum system specification
· eighteen carefully balanced weapons
· eleven rich level designs
· cinematic atmospheric effects
· death match play
· team death match play
· team survivor play
· tactical mission objective play
· eleven unique missions
· Unlagged™ net-code with Skip-Correction™ and Hit-Testing™
· outstanding game-play to 400ms ping
· male and female player models (eight in all)
· original animations

Afterwards is a game that offerers something for everyone in game-play, play-modes, game-types and performance. You can play Afterwards on your old Lap-Top or any machine with enough oomph to run Q3A, and even play "over at Grandma's house" on her crummy AOL dial-up connection. Afterwards even includes female models that portray women attractively and wholesomely -- something both rare and appreciated by the few women playing FPS Games and Mods...

A new map for the Afterwards mod, a total Q3 conversion, is on the way. It's set in the frozen wastes of antartica (no aliens or preds, I promise!) and the action takes place at an abandoned science station.

Now for an update on the latest Beta release which is coming within the next couple of months.

This Beta (Beta 2.5) will be the newest release in over three years. Since I have been given permision from the original creators to continue this mod, I have been taking on all of the responibilities since I don't have any team members at this time.

New code is in the works and here are some things you should see: Afterwards will hopefully be able to play mp3's and allow you to add your own mp3's in a sub folder for a more personalized fragging experience.

Minor fixes including the func_rotating_door problem which is keeping me from using rotating doors at the moment and that just isn't right!

Also I am going to implement bots in the tactical mode (this should be a true hair pulling experience) at some point (hopefully sooner than later). I would like to see the bots in tactical mode by the next beta release but I can't promise anything on that unless another coder jumps in and helps me (and I pray that he or she does).

Did the dev team make the whole project open-source (models, textures, etc.) or just the code? Afterwards could be combined with the open-source Q2/Q3 engine QFusion to produce a complete game. Possibly a free, open-source, and excellent quality FPS.

In any case just flipping through the screenshots is a pleasure. Map/ model/ effects blend together well. Truly cinematic.

Hi & Welcome!

There's lots of stuff to check out here and on the Official Afterwards Site, be sure and drill through our extensive AFTERWARDS Image Galleries; eleven pages and nearly 100 images!

Check out the inaugural and most recent news posts for more AFTERWARDS info and pictures. The Official AFTERWARDS Site has a more information on the game, a load of cool screen shots, weapon profiles, and a dedicated AFTERWARDS forum.

AFTERWARDS is a Skinner, Modeler, Sound Designer, Level Designer and Programmer's dream come true because AFTERWARDS is 100% Open Source providing you with the complete infrastructure of a solid game with rich and complex feature set where you can do an "Art Job" and a little or no code tuning and have a complete new game design in the fraction of time it takes just to get a Mod Team started! AFTERWARDS fully Open Source offers capable and beginner programmers a tremendous head start as well with massive time savings.

If you decide to build on AFTERWARDS source please stay true and give credit where it's due; announce your work here on the AFTERWARDS moddb comments section and we will help promote your new game through the Official AFTERWARDS site and these pages (another FREE AFTERWARDS bonus).

We need an artist to make us a sexy AFTERWARDS link button so that anyone promoting AFTERWARDS or using AFTERWARDS source gives the original mod and team credit. Ideally it would be something using the original font, and have some manner of sexy animation, but any and all contributions are appreciated!

AFTERWARDS is also in rather dire need of servers; if you can provide a 24/7 server please post your servers information here and I will see to it that it appears in the AFTERWARDS news and on the front page of moddb.

Actually I contacted the entire AFTERWARDS Dev Team long ago by e-mail several times each about getting the mod on moddb. SparX was the only one I heard back from and it was he that got me the grant of permission to do the pages here.

I work for Mirage on Navy SEAL/s: Covert Operations and was sadened to see such a capable mod fade virtually unknown and unplayed...

Hope someone will offer a server so that people interested in trying AFTERWARDS can play.

Hi folks,

Well, till now the AW Dev Team did not notice that Hoak put up our mod on ModDB...
But anyway, thx for his efforts to do some PR work for us. We never did much PR stuff for our mod, that's why we only had a small but nevertheless a very active community. It was really fun to play with you guys!
I hope there are still some people out there enjoying Afterwards. Have fun!
