Adventure Middle Earth (AME) is a mod, in fact a Total Conversion, for the game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" by Bethesda Softworks. Our aim is to build JRR Tolkiens Middle Earth mainly known from the Lord of the Rings. We are not making a Middle Earth game like to the ones which have already been made. We will neither only create parts of Middle Earth nor only make some adventures or campaigns for the player. We are creating whole of Middle Earth (from Lindon in the west to the sea of Rhûn in the east and from the Grey Mountains in the north to the River Harnen in the south) using the typical Elder Scrolls freedom giving the player countless options of playing the game. Some features and other information from the FAQ: Our sources are the books of Tolkien himself, and not the films. We are trying to make a Middle Earth game Tolkien would actually like and about which one can say: "Yeah, this really is Middle Earth, worthy of Tolkien.". So that is our aim, and we hope to reach it. If you want to help us, just contact me (grabba@gmx.de). We need 2D- and 3D-Artists, no matter from which language. For textworkers or others we will only accept Germans, as we are a German mod. For any further questions just visit our website or post in the forums. I hope you enjoy and like our project. P.S.: There have already been two other entries for our project here. The first one had been closed due to a change in game engine from Morrowind to Oblivion about a year ago and the second one has been taken over by a former teammember in favour of his own project.
Latest News: First Ingame Material!
0 comments by Grabba on Apr 18th, 2006 digg this super bookmark The day has come: The first ingame material of AME is available - Screenshots of the terraform created by our heightmap. It has already been published exclusively at our new partner-site TES-Oblivion.de some hours ago, and now they can also be viewed here. Along with the ingame screenshots the gallery is fit for service again - not yet entirely but almost. You cannot only see the new ingame-shots of the heightmap there, but also most of the other images. The images from the heightmap are all from the region around the Blue Mountains in the northwest of Middle Earth. Furthermore it has to be said that this is not the final version but still WIP. Anyway it can give a good impression of what it will be like. When the landscape is eventually textured and filled with objects it will of course look much more alive. But for a first impression this should be enough. Just visit the Gallery, and there best visit the section called Ingame-Screenshots. Those who want to tell us their opinion about the images may do this in the forums. Enjoy the images

AME is frozen
Dear Middle Earth Enthusiasts!
Today we want to announce a very drastic step in the development of the vision "Adventure Middle Earth": AME is getting frozen.
The technical limitations of the publicly available Construction Set makes it impossible to realise AME for TES IV: Oblivion with the planned size. Based on the fact that we could already implement our whole landmass in Morrowind we did not think it could be a problem for Oblivion. Just when rumours spread that there is a limitation of 6x6 Quads (1 Quad = 1024 cells) in Oblivion we started testing the whole size of the heightmap instead of testing it step by step as we had done before. The result was shocking: As soon as the amount of the quads surpassed 20 the Construction Set crashed, when trying it in one rush and also with parts of 10 quads each. So altogether nothing above 20 Quads can be imported to Oblivion. Additionally for these 20 Quads no LOD-Terrain (LOD is what you see in the distance) can be created anymore - this is only possible with a maximum of 16 quads. As we had planned Adventure Middle Earth with 225 quads, the realisation is impossible due to an ever crashing Construction Set. Even a request for help at Bethesda did not result in anything. This does not astonish us too much as the Community's calls for a new Version of the CS, which is used for the Pay-PlugIns, were unheard. We have tried everything, tested as much as possible and searched for solutions - but it is simply impossible. We hope you can understand this sad but inevitable step.
Now, after about four years, we could of course review the past time and wallow in memories, but we won't, as AME is not cancelled and thus we rather look hopefully into the future. AME is a vision we want to realise for ourselves, and to do this the way we want we accept waiting for some more years which we will use to look for a new technical basis and to extend our skills. We will also proceed with some work on AME. So today we want to say goodbye to all those who have eagerly awaited Middle Earth in Oblivion and whom we have disappointed. But we also want to invite all those who share our vision to visit the forums from time to time, because it will definitely go on. Time is not yet ripe for such a Middle Earth, but some day it will be, and with today's progress rather tomorrow than the day after. As a bridgeover for this time we have a composition from our musician who has already transferred our vision into a melody: Er-Chorf - The One Ring.
We will meet again - in Middle Earth!
I prefer to think of it as frozen in a thick shell of ice......
its been frozen for awhile now, due to restrictions with the oblivion cs, but eh, dont lose faith,
and hopefully one day the hard shell of ice will thaw
if you want to find out more about it tho, heres the website

Is this mod dead?
I'm hoping that they move the mod over to Two Worlds. Quite frankly I've found the gameplay to be much more fun than oblivion ever was. The map itself is also roughly 30% bigger than oblivion, so maybe it might be able to accomodate the ambitious area they want to create.
Best mod ever is de... frozen. And i think its for long, thats bad. Maybe this mod, i mean the idea will be presenced in some other game, maybe Gothic3, i mean its not like Oblivion, its a completely other game, the CS will come soon, and a patch will be also included by the way, i heard that the new patch for Gothic3 will be 1+GB big!!!
The problem is that the Construction set cant handle the size of the game they want....by a longshot. In other words, there isnt going to be a mod for oblivion, maybe some other game.
If that was true, then Tamriel Rebuilt would have died long ago. Which it clearly hasn't.
I place my money on them being new to modding and so chose too ambitious a project.
