"A travesty has befallen the sacred lands of our God Emperor. The despicable Ork tides have already taken the planet Tern and are now sweeping through the entire system. These foul creatures not only threaten the millions of inhabitants but take the Forges for their own perverse means. Should the Imperial Guard faulter, we shall stand firm. My brethren, it is our duty to cleanse these Xenos in the name of the Emperor. Never forget, never forgive."
- Grand Master Uriel, briefing aboard Strike Cruiser Exheres Venia, Sanctus Sector.

As many of you can see, the 8th Legion team has been striving to complete most assests, mainly models, before the engine is even out. The attitude the team has taken to the task is a direct and serious one. We realise that it does take more than a couple of years to release a good game and there is no sense in twiddling thumbs until the dev tools comes out. However, the team is still lacking in some departments so please do not hesitate to get in contact with us if you wish to help out.
Getting into contact with us can be achieved in several ways. Either an Email or Private Message on our website's forums at 8thlegion.net or come onto our IRC channel listed in the side panel.

Much thanks, and love, goes out to Ransico who has fixed the media section for all to view. In celebration, we're continuing to show case more high poly renders of the versatile Space Marine Drop Pod and ferocious Land Raider. I would like to point out that these high poly versions now replace the older models.
For those you do not know, the Drop Pod allows Space Marine squads to strike almost anywhere with precision. Able to bring reinforcements in a matter of minutes, the Drop Pod will be crucial for keeping the pressure on opponents.
And what cannot be said about the Land Raider? Arguably the heaviest, medium-sized tank in the known Imperium, it serves multiple roles including Anti-Vehicle, Anti-Infantry and Transportation. The only vehicle to be able to transport Terminators, the Land Raider strikes fear into all the enemies of the God-Emperor.

Would love to, but unfortunately we have everything but a texture artists and until some one volunteers that meets the teams standards we will continue to work with what staff we have.
try to show some skinned models instead of unskined ones
Looks great and all, but isn't the "Ork Dreadnaught" supposed to be an Ork Killa Kan? I do remember their dreadnaughts being alot bigger and the killa kans being their little brothers.
this will be no short of epic(not the game :P )
Yeah finding that balance has been a bit of a choir but i think we are getting it right :D
Hahaha, alright. Ork models at this time have a nice blend of cartoon and grit I think. They'll tear your throat out, but it's ok if they fire a rocket and it blows them up instead. The shoota doesn't look BAD, by any means, there's just something about it that bugs me. I figure it'll look fantastic ingame though. Guess I'll just have to wait and see, eh?
;)
Orks are something that has been a hot topic of debate over the last couple of weeks due to our vision of the gritty FPS and GW's very cartoony design of the Ork's conflict with that. So we have been working on a more 'realistic' image, which as you can see on the shoota removes that cartoony essence of the originals while still maintining the look of Ork weaponry.
And as for the weapon models looking simple that's intended, there is alot to be gained from simplicity at our current stages and we can promise it will be the hottest Shoota you have ever laid eyes on by the time it comes to release ;).
The newest renders look great, but again....the weapon models seem somewhat simple. The warhammer looks alright, but the Ork shoota just isn't that orky. I'm not sure what it is. It's got the big ole rivets, the shambled look, and it's big. Maybe textures will help, I don't know.
I'm a big Ork fan, so you'll be hearing from me any time the orks get an update ;)
What are those beutiful models rendered in? Did you use any plugins?
Scanline renderer with a skylight and light tracer. I find that simplicity can be highly rewarding.
