The idea of this mod is to allow you to play as any given race from the series and also from other existing mods out there, which was started by chris some years ago, many people have helped the mod get it where it is right now, and there isnt much left to finish up other than bug hunting and possible replacing of ship models. I would like to see this mod make MOTY at some point but i need to focus on stuff that needs to be done. Currently the few remaining teams are being worked on me, right now im focused on cleaning up the mod to make it as friendly and enjoyable as possible which is why i would like people to play test the mod and help me find any potential problems with the mod itself and get them taken care of. Also to determine what needs to be balanced, nerfed, buffed etc is also another role i would like testers to help out with by giving me their opinions, inputs etc. You can contact me here or via my Email

Current downloads of this mod are up on sourceforge.
I update the mod every now and then so be sure to check the sourceforge page for last updated to get the current working variant. In addition i post what changed have been done from the last on a facebook fan site for homeworld 3.

The only races that arent fully done as of now are Tobari, Bentusi, those 2 teams are in need of more ships in order for them to be fully completed.

Not mentioned in the manual is the CPU Attack Priority Option - use this option to add extra difficulty when playing a match, there are five settings our testers have told us that the "More Often" choice is the best for a good hard match.  Note:  these settings are independent of the standard Easy to Expert choices for difficulty giving the player 15 choices for AI gameplay.

Homeworld2 must be patched to version 1.1 for the mod to work correctly.

Your data folder (usually c:\program files\sierra\homeworld2\data) must not contain a different deathmatch.lua - as it may override the deathmatch.lua that is within the HWU big file.

If you want your badges to display properly on the homeworld 2 teams aka Hiigaran and Vaygr you need to have shadows disabled otherwise they will be displayed as a white box, this is due to shaders being used from HW@ to display their cruiser correctly which seems to be conflicting with ours.

The deathmatch_test game mode can be selected in the options menu, this will allow you to check out some of the more work in progress stuff as well as load the map of HWU's donated but unused ships.

Donated materials and a full list of credits can be viewed in the Credits menu from the main menu in HW2.
Lastly i did create a video tutorial explaining how to set up your in game races correctly so you can avoid desktopping, so here is the link to the video hope it helps out new players.

I am currently looking for among many things people who can make model and texture as well as play testers online to find things that need fixing and also to get feed back. Now moleman pointed out to me that having everything loaded on a single race slot is not the source of lag in HWU but rather the LODs so imma gonna through and fix them cause i used the same LOD for each LOD level, turns out your not supposed to do that and also it has to do with your computer specs, internet speed and the connections for everyone that is playing with you online. Vs Cpu works fine for me with no lag whatsoever just need to figure out what needs to be done. HWU is in need of new ship models to replace our aging models from HW 1 and Cata ports to more or less compete with other mods, mind you i feel that the only good thing about HWU atm is the raw amount of races in it. Anyways post away if anyone wants to and lastly to everything who were keeping up on the mod, sorry for vanishing like that i ended up getting caught up in stuff i dont ever want to have to do again.

There isn't really a tool that creates fx, there are script files that determine how an effect is portrayed but the basic fx is usually just a .tga graphic file used in concert with one of the HW2 shaders like The repair beam I made was based on the Marine frigate capture beam, and is either executed from an animation or from the events file on the specific ship you are using.

I believe I saw a program once that could help but I don't know where to find it or even what it is, you might want to consider asking on the relic news forums.

well, reinstalling didn't work at first. so i checked the maps for weird stuff, and i found what looks like a .big file from the warlords mod. dunno how i got there as i haven't played that one for a while, but it does work fine now.

thanks anyway. (i was using XP, but i'm installing windows 7 today to see if i can get it to work, i hope the vista fix works)

Just FYI, if your trying to run this mod on a MAC, it doesn't work - we've had others test it and have found that the menu options don't work on MACs for some reason - we are trying to work on that.

droideka95, I use mostly 3rd party freeware, as the RDN tools are more documentation than actual software. Most of the tools I use are by 4E543B and can be downloaded on the Utilities page of the website (page needs to be viewed with IE or Firefox using IE tab (a plug-in). You could also try the Homeworld Universe Tool package that I put together, somethings are not the newest version but it's a very complete package - this can be found by going to my moddb profile and then selecting downloads.

Hiigaran_Vaygr, if the file is corrupted when you unzip it, it probably means that it didn't download correctly. When you download the mod again, make sure that the filesize of the file you download is the same size in MB as what the computer says it will be. There have been issues with our home host and filefront disconnecting before the download is finished.

kikker, there is only one real reason HWU will crash on loading - make sure to change every player to "Choose Above" in the standard player race selection area IE where you usually change between Hiigaran and Vaygr teams. If even one isn't changed the mod will crash on Universe. We are working on fixing that.
