The Great War is a modification for Company of Heroes meant to bring the war a decade or so earlier. This mod focuses on the later years of the First World War. Currently the two teams will be the British Empire against the German Empire, however with the release of Opposing Fronts the team will try and bring some more nations in, such as the French.
This mod will focus or realism but keep the game balanced enough to make it enjoyable.
Things to look for in the mod are the famous artillery strikes and the infamous gas attacks. Trenches will provide vital cover for infantry while tanks will roll over the battlefield and instill fear into the enemy troops.

We have another minor update for the mod, just to kindle your appetites for the mammoth upcoming press release and to prove to fans that we are still powering at full momentum.
Just a small introduction on my part, I am WartyX, primarily a skinner for The Great War mod. However, as well as carrying out some minor odd jobs such as producing the release trailers and brewing the tea, I will be writing a large amount of the updates you will see on the main site and the forums - so you had better get used to me!
First things first, it has been quite a while, but we now have a fully working website up, running and online. The team will be regularly updating each section; we have faith in fans to keep track of the mod’s progress eagerly! Make sure you check out the detailed FAQ and media sections, and register at our forums to get the latest news before everybody else!

Secondly, we have completed the model and texturing process for the German Maschinegewehr ’08, thrusting the gun into the Company of Heroes universe, nearly a century after being thrust into ours.
A direct descendant of the British Maxim gun, the MG08 was officially adopted by the German Imperial Army before the First World War as its primary Heavy Machine Gun. The MG08 became a very popular machine gun amongst the troops due to its reliability and durability. Its effective range was estimated around and beyond one mile, and it fired a daunting 450 rounds per minute. However, the powerful water-cooled weapon was hindered only by its own weight, meaning that it was limited from being deployed as anything other than a defensive weapon.
In The Great War 1918, the gun will be manned by specialised weapon crews of the German Empire. Much like the Heavy Machine Guns in vanilla Company of Heroes, their primary role will be laying blankets of cover fire upon amassed enemy infantry.
Last but not least,we have new website where you can track us: www.themodfiles.extra.hu/main
I hope this satisfies you for the time being; we will have more on the MG08 and other German Empire weaponry and equipment very soon in our forthcoming press release.

ive always wanted a WW1 game keep up good work
looks good
This looks extreamy freaking awesome.
What about hand to hand combat?
i remember wartyx from my cod2 days nice to see he's still active
As you said Squire James, those are placeholders. If the models look like they're from WW2... that's because they are models from WW2! (we can't edit the models to make the jackets longer and tighter, the sleeves longer, the gasmask canister smaller, the cap straighter, etc...). On the other hand you can't complain about the texture at all, as they are correct. The colour is the right one (unless you didn't know about the Jägers and MG Schützen grey-green uniforms?) and so are the arrengements of pockets (even though the flaps ought to be rounder) even down to the buttons.
I invite you to compare the retextured models to the original CoH (WW2) ones and see that we're actually very well informed about WW1 uniforms.
(note though that the CoH german's uniforms are too large even for WW2's standards, which doesn't make the work easy)
Since the first moment we heard about OF,we decided we are going be a mod for CoH + OF.
OF has got grapich and coding features that helps on making the best (only?) RTS WW1 experience possible
Will Opposing Fronts change any of your plans for this mod? I hear the brits can dig trenches (dling now on steam havn't played it yet)
Theres tons of neat things that could be done with this mod- neat wise, ya know? Like the Vicker's MG being able to double as an AA gun and an artillery piece (troops were trained to arc their shots sometimes, instead of firing directly), and tons of other junk. Hope it gets finished sooner or later ^.^
