The Great War is a modification for Company of Heroes meant to bring the war a decade or so earlier. This mod focuses on the later years of the First World War. Currently the two teams will be the British Empire against the German Empire, however with the release of Opposing Fronts the team will try and bring some more nations in, such as the French.
This mod will focus or realism but keep the game balanced enough to make it enjoyable.
Things to look for in the mod are the famous artillery strikes and the infamous gas attacks. Trenches will provide vital cover for infantry while tanks will roll over the battlefield and instill fear into the enemy troops.

We're all very sorry for posting this update so late, plans went down the drain as were toying with what to put in it and our personal lives got ahead of us. But we are here, we are standing and we shall march onwards. So, without further ado, here it is. This instalment will focus on the G98, the standard rifle of the German infantry. Mass produced it was very successful and had several later version, changing into he K98 at the dawn of the Second World War.
With this mod we won't only leave the G98 as it is. We obviously had to include some of its variants and cool little tricks. include some of its variants and cool little tricks.
On top of it being the main rifle, and good looking at that, you will have the opportunity to mount a scope onto it and knock a man down from far longer ranges.
But we all know that snipers are in short supply, so what do you do if there is some opposition huddled in a building? Why, you use the latest in German technology, the rifle grenade! Firing grenades over large expanses will let you silence the opposition quickly and with minimal losses.
As well as the rifle grenades you will be equipped with two new ones, always lovely. A 1915 multi-purpose grenade will uncouple the weaker vehicles and hurt any infantry while the egg grenade is exclusive to the Stormtroopers. The egg grenade is a lighter grenade which allows for longer throwing distances but packs less of a punch, however, enough to make an enemy squad to rethink its plans...if they have time to think...
So, you've sniped them from afar, silenced the garrisoned opposition and closed the gap. The rifle proves pretty useless now, too bulky and the rate of fire is too low. Well, there just one more weapon up your sleeve...or more accurately, at the end of your barrel. The bayonet will let your troops engage relatively effectively in close combat and secure you victory.
Now place that flag of yours in that trench and call it a day.
With this update out of the way we'd like to ask everyone and anyone if they have or know anyone that has any modding talent. We're looking for skinners, modellers, anything really. You can contact us via our forums or by simply messaging us. If we have a lack of expertise in your field you may be able to join the team. With a greater team and we achieve our goal at a quicker pace. Then again, we also need the tools... now, where is that object editor?

On another note, you may have noticed that we have bundled some rather nice looking boxes in with our renders. This is to make the renders look nicer and gives a comparison but also because it shows how much detail me put into our mod. The boxes are modelled just as if they were built, each piece of wood placed by hand and then nailed into its location. Now, these boxes aren't purely used in renders. You may see these boxes lying around the map as finishing touches. We're also planning on using similar boxes in conjunction with artillery pieces were they might reload their barrels from these boxes.
And with that, we end our update.

is not dead? oh, much better watching
Good mod, keep on the good work!
You obviously know nothing of History m8...so might as well button it!
We want to make a WW1 mod, and no ammount of ignorant posts will change that. We're also fully confidant in our capacity to make it as historically accurate as possible while keeping an interesting gameplay.
@Rankao: correct. We'll cover the Spring Offensive - Hundred Days Offensive period, since it's the richest equipment and tactical wise.
Great Idea!...keep up the good work (and ignore the ignorant kids on here)
also uh yes fighting every moment thats what i love about CoH is the constant action the smallest break in your dfence and your dead also the charges and alll that in WW1 you just couldnt do that and it was mostly sniper tactics. also when the tank was finally introduced the germans were massacred and the war ended fairly quick with the german empire crumbling and its people engaged in civil war.
D3@DM4N, your lack of actual historic knowledge is amazing. What does it take to become so ignorant to simple historic facts?
(buried)
No i dont want tanks running around, hell i dont like the idea for this mod only because its just a really bad idea. The war was just not that intense for america. and also it ended really fast because the germans were slaughtered. MAKE A VIETNAM MOD FOR THE LOVE OF GOD because the Great War just wasnt that exciting
(*Note* i dislike real war but i love video game war so when i see a video game based on an interesting war then yes ill play it. All around all WW1 games/mods/movies/etc. suck in general not your fault kill this project and spend your time on something wayyyy cooler.)
D3@DM4N i'm not quite sure, but I would think the mod would cover the spring Offensive of 1918, you don't need several years of fighting to give the experience of World War I. As far as the Europe Campaign on the ground for America only lasted a little bit more then a year (from D-Day to VE Day.) This also lets the developer to use the most technology they can and allow it to be as actuate as possible. You don't want tanks running around in 1914 do you? But hey, thats just my view.
Deadman I hope you know that they are doing somthing great, not many groups or modders bother doing WWI, also COH is perfect for the WWI platform anyway so as far as anyone is concerned we don't care if your going to download it or not, all I know is I'm so supporting this and seeing this all the way.
