This is our last major update for the month of December. December was a great month for Jurassic Park, and we'll make sure January is extra special. Much to look forward to :)

Without further delay. Here are the updates. (Click thumbnails to enlarge)

The progress on the Jeep YJ texturing has improved significantly, much closer to the polished look :D. A sneak peak of the Raptor Pen texturing and the early stages of our Dr. Alan Grant character model. And of course, last but certainly not least, the rotunda. The balcony on the rotunda finally has been set up. Now it just needs the railing along it.

Here is a video fly-through of the Jeep.

Keep in mind though that when you move behind an object in Crysis then the geometry behind it turns into a wireframe or basically disappears to help the game run better.

The island on it's own will render in the CryEngine. But when you add lots of foliage, buildings, AI etc. Then if the whole game world is not optimized by an insane amount (it is possible to do), the game will run like absolute arse.

I am guessing that there would have to be a system similar to oblivion in order for the whole island to run smoothly.
I think oblivion is something like 10kmx10km square but the engine can certainly do a much larger area...an insanely huuuuuuge area with ease, with the use of streamed terrain.
Of course streaming terrain is stuttery as you can see in oblivion, so optimizations would need to be done in order for it to stream smoothly in the cryengine.

I hope that you guys can pull this off, I really do. The engine is capable, it just needs to brains to help it become even more capable.

Wouldn't we need the source code to do editing like that though?

CE2 feels like it would be the best to me, aside from the fact that the island is probably to big for the engine lol, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

I honestly don't think there will be another engine that will meet the needs, I honestly don't, CE2 is a great engine, the only problem I get from thisis the island being to big, so I will talk to you later so you can fill me in which would be nice.

I'm not switching engines. I freaked out. I'm going to just have to deal with the limitation. I'll still create a basic 16 KM map, but as far as gameplay and vegetation, details.. etc. The game will be in seperate map files. Now incase 16 KM is someday working flawlessly, I'll try to create everything in a way that allows for easy transfer the best I can.
