Barney's Tales is a total conversion of the original Half-Life Blue Shift add-on. Source Engine, used in mod, will allow us to visit the world of the scary Black Mesa Research Facility once more. Security officer Barney Calhoun, undecided major, was going on his first shift in a research facility. He put on his uniform, got his Glock-18 in the armory and set out for the Sector 3. Suddenly, Barney felt an explosion and the lift he was going by fell down. Next thing he saw when consciousness returned was a strange alien creature tearing a scientist. With the personnel and security officers at his side Barney must escape the Black Mesa before it becomes a blazing crater...

those legs are way too short. And personally, Theres a lot of exaduration with the wrinkles on the cloth/vest and pants. Beyond that this is probably one of the best player models i've seen for any mod (including black mesa). Keep up the amazing work!

Actually there will be about 4 different types of heads (not faces) and some different types of bodies. Therefore, if vary them, it will turn out about 10 kinds of grunts. :)
Awesomely detailed, nice one Ultemate. I hope he doesn't need o be too shiny to make that hard work show up. Zbrush? Mudbox or what?
He reminds me of ActionMan ^^ I kinda like it, but it seems a bit like hes wearing leather clothes : !

pointless amount of detail on the model, even as a normal map, it's ridiculously creased and folded etc. It looks like he's wearing a loose latex condom on himself.
Maybe less folds on his uniform, otherwise, it looks great! You should enter it into high poly competitions on modelling websites.

Yeah, the PCV I was talking about. So, will he also get ACUPAT Camo too? Then I always though that it where Marines they sent to Black Mesa and not Army guys (expect Black Ops, but they are from the CIA), so he would wear Desert MARPAT or the non-adopted Urban MARPAT. Anyway, the model sure looks awome, the details are amazing. Very well done.
Wrinkles don't pass for detail. Sorry, it doesn't look realistic.

His legs are to short, no question about it. It should be at least a boot longer (place the knee where the end of the pants are located).
About the wrinkles on his clothes, they aren't to many, but they are to big. try to scale them down (a lot). a marines pants should look plump, not like wet rubber.
As far as armor goes, his west needs to come out more of the jacket. It shouldn't look attached to it.
I understand where you were trying to go with the left knee-pad, but if you stick to it you have to follow through with it. It shouldn't be hanging by the calf, but by the ankle.
Same thing with the jacket sleeves. Either they go all over the glove (which by the way is a bit to large. Should be the size of his face) or they should be rolled up all the way to the elbows.
Besides that, it looks awesome. I especially dig his cap :D
I have to agree with both mikejkelley and tacoo. While at first glance it does look good there are too many ignored details, for instance, how come his vest has no thickness whatsoever? I have a combat vest, and they are far from thin). Why are his sleeves half way down his forearms. Why are his clothes wrinkled in places which don't seem to collaborate with how they should be hanging, or the equipment being worn on top.
Also, I'm kind of worried at the difficulty you are going to have with clipping when trying to animate this model.
I agree. And stop with the comments like "Black Mesa got pwned". I'm beginning to think the number one priority of these developers is to compete with the Black Mesa team. "Look, I can make mine with 3 million more polygons than you!". On that note, this grunt doesn't look nearly as realistic as Black Mesa's.

Lovely work. As for some of the criticism list above, well the wrist looking attached could just be the angle render, the slipping knee guard looks good and going for total realism and putting it around his ankle would be impractical. Personally I think there are too many folds in the cloth but thats a personal taste issue not a mistake on your part. As for the length of the legs, If you have gone into this much detail I presume you have checked the model against anatomical reference so I believe you when you say they are right. I know I tend to exaggerate the legs on my models because comic book proportions are so prevalent in game characters. Clipping when animating could be an issue though.
You have upped the standard. I'm going to have fun trying to match the quality of this work.
Out of interest, what armour is this based on? As I haven't seen the US army use anything like this in a long time.

Ultemate, it seems you should be more informed, as you have provided me no proof that this vest is used by the US army. I never once disputed it was a real vest, just the fact I haven't seen the US use anything like this recently.
Perhaps you would like to provide a link for me detailing the US army's current use of the CCV. Until then stop trying to look intelligent.

Kester, on that site are shown american uniform, also you can watch "The Marksman" with Wesley Snipes ( Img.verycd.com ), it crap, but there soldiers wears something similar to this. Also half-life is going BEFORE 2007, and therefore before BDU and new combat uniforms like in Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. ;)

Well you have to think they were 'supposed' to be a quick reaction force so the LBV may have been all they needed so say have this as an early grunt you fight, perhapes later when they realized just how much shit hit the fan they put in units with full combat gear Kevlar and Flaks so say you fight the more prepared grunts later

It's pretty good, detail-wise, but not even nearly as realistic as your old models. Plz use the old ones, they were a lot better.
insane render. COD4 quality. and for you guys sorrying about teh polys, just like in COD4, they couldve taken out polys and added textures and...fuck something else, i forgot the name of it. but it keeps the details way up, and the polys down.
All is good, except the ridiculous amount of creasing in the cloth. Have you ever seen real clothes on a human body before? Natace25s's comment about it looking like a man dressed in a giant latex condom was as accurate as it was hilarious.
