Wheels of War
With Wheels of War, we want to bring back the awesome feeling when playing Carmageddon all those years ago - the initial racing, the wasting of other cars, collecting power-ups, insane stunts and running over zombies. There will be powerups/powerdowns, a credits system, upgradable cars (via armour, offensive, and engine characteristics), checkpoint style racing (i.e, ability to roam), destructable cars, and a stunts system. Note that this is not a port/clone or rip of Carmageddon. We are taking it's single player concept, evolving it to multiplayer, and creating a whole new environment for it to exist in.
A game design document has been released to the public on the website focusing on our Free For All Campaign game mode here.
We have many other modes planned, but our first alpha release will focus on this one.
Features of Interest (Note: All are not available yet, but will be implemented in due course):
Partial Changelog:
Maps:
* Race Mode Maps Added:
o Valley
o Slipgate
* Quarry 3rd checkpoint (small) indicator lamp brought closer to main checkpoint as it did not reflect the checkpoint trigger point correctly.
Vehicles:
* Added Optimus Crime SKULLS!
* Added Waroeels
* Added Wee-Evil
* Vehicle handling (hopefully) improved a bit
wowGameRulesDMCampaign:

* Scoreboard shows best lap instead of XP.
* Vehicles do not collide with each other.
* No credits awarded for laps/checkpoints.
* Powerups are disabled.
Ranked Stats Servers:
* si_wowStatsGUID
* si_wowGSPLicence
* Ranked Server cvars are not locked, but if they do not conform to regulations then stats are simply not sent.
* Only Dedicated Internet Servers and lan servers which have forced auth.
Website:
* Stats Centre for global and per-server race laps.
* GSP centre for adding and modifying server details.
* GSP Licence Request area.

This version is a very early alpha release. We expect that you will find bugs, and you may feel that the gameplay is not up to the quality of which you expected. Zombies, stunts, upgrades and more will be added in time.
We have decided to release this early as community involvement is high on our list of priorities. We believe instead of having a long closed testing phase, by releasing early and frequent releases we can take your comments and critisism on board quickly and allow a higher quality game when we eventually come to release the 1.0 version.
We would love to hear your feedback, good or bad, over in the forums at Wheelsofwar.co.uk . Thanks!

Will you really release an alpha version this month?
looks great!
Will it be like carmageddon? I mean killing guys who are standing around :)
There will be zombies yeah, the first alpha should feature them in a very primitive form!
Yeah, that will be great! Thanks :)
"and hopefully mac"
Please look into that. :)
Aspyr claims to be in the alpha stages of testing ETQW for Macs, so maybe the game will be out in time to port this mod?
We do have members of the team using macs. Until we get confirmation that the SDK codebase will be mac-compatible we cannot make firm promises, but we will certainly try :)
Hahah. I've been looking forward to this mod since I first spotted it. :D
Super Happy Cow wishes you all good luck. <3
QW is the perfect engine for this mod. Love the game, and can't wait for this mod :)
I dont understand why you could not find anyone online, there was a bug about te server browser that was fixed with the current patch. Maybe you were experincing that.
Basically, ET:QW offered what we needed :
1) A solid codebase. id engines are well known and stand up against anyone.
2) Multiplayer/network suitability. This is a multiplayer only game, and seeing this is the same in ET:QW, knowing lots of time has been spent on network optimizations is a big plus.
3) Community: The ET:QW community is very large. Over a quarter of a million registered players.
4) Cross platform: we will be releasing for windows, linux, and hopefully mac!
5) Developer help: Splashdamage are a good bunch of guys, and have personally already helped in the development of Wheels of War by giving us pointers into some difficult implementation issues.
6) Appeal. IF we had developed for say crysis, all the developers would have needed high end systems, along with the players. ET:QW offers great visuals at half the cost. Also, it seems ET:QW sold a hella lot more copies than Crysis and UT3 if the figures publiched on next-gen.biz were anything to go by.
Basically: I did my research - ET:QW ticked all the boxes.
