Star Wars: The New Era is the first large Star Wars modification made on a next generation engine. It is produced by Invision Games, a group of modders and Star Wars fans that have evolved from the Movie Battles 2 community and a mod team working on "Star Wars: Source" before.

The New Era - what does that mean?
The goal behind TNE is to create a Star Wars mod that not only appeals to fans due to its authenticity, but also takes advantage of the latest technologies in game design. While other engines come and go, the VALVe Source Engine enables us to let the mod grow together with the engine.
The engine allows us to create a Star Wars mod with the most intense atmosphere you experienced so far on the PC.

Gametypes
TNE starts off as a multiplayer modification, but a singleplayer is in the planning stage as well. We follow the goal of providing fun and challenging gameplay for every taste. While some players like fast gametypes like Team Deathmatch or Capture the Flag, others prefer more tactical gametypes. Some like guns, some love lightsabers.
Invision Games tries to provide all of this in one mod. As a result, the workload is very high and thus, we are heading towards an episodic release strategy:

  • Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch
Play quick games where you do not necessarily have to rely on your team. Gain map control by securing weapon and item respawns and defeat your enemies with quick weapon combos.
  • Capture the Flag
Use teamwork to steal the enemies' flag and take it back safely to your home base. Use the wide array of weaponry to breach into an enemy base or to defend your own carrier.
  • Team Assault
Known from the popular Movie Battles 2 mod, this strategic gametype requires thinking and extensive teamplay. Pick a player class, customize it and complement one another. Only with good teamwork and a strategy, you will be able to fulfill the game objectives.
  • Duel
Not so interested in guns? You prefer the ways of the Force instead? Measure your skills with the Lightsaber against Jedi or Sith players in the duel mode.

Features
"An elegant weapon from more civilized times"
Star Wars: The New Era will introduce to you a well-balanced combat system not only consisting of ballistic weapons from the Star Wars universe. You will also have the possibility to engage in Lightsaber duels. Instead of an arcade system, we will provide to you a tactical Lightsaber combat system which can be used against Force users as well as gunners.

"The Force can be a strong ally - or a terrible foe"
VALVe's implementation of the Havoc physics engine has already proven to enrich gameplay and fun in Half-Life², seeing the many fans of the Graviton Gun. We proceed even further and provide your favourite heroes with Force powers as an effective, yet balanced weapon against others.

"An extensive space saga"
Authenticity is one of the key aspects in TNE. With highly detailed settings from the movies and expanded universe, we try to give you the best Star Wars experience possible. Part of this authenticity is also a server-side setup that will allow you to select between the eras of the Star Wars universe: Fight during the Clone Wars or the Galactic Civil War - the choise is yours.

Invision Games will be attending the Kultima Festival in Paris from the 2nd to 4th November 2007. The Kultima is a fair for all kinds of fictional arts and media, ranging from fantasy to science-fiction, from comic to PC-games.
The Kultima Festival will take place at the "Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord-Villepinte" (3420 Villepinte, Paris) in Hall 4 which provides a space of 20.000 square-meters full of fantasy and science fiction.

Invision Games attends the Kultima Festival with its own booth showcasing Star Wars: The New Era for the first time in public. Apart from presented artworks and our trailer, our level designer jeantyu will give the visitors some insight in the development process of 2D and 3D arts for the mod. But that's not even all - for the first time ever, Kultima visitors will have a chance to take a first glance at TNE ingame. Yes that's right - on Kultima, people will be able to play an early version of the Team Deathmatch mode.

As it was announced, the "French Garrison", a division of the 501st legion will also attend the event in large numbers. We hope to see a couple of Stormtroopers at our booth :)

For more information on how to get to the convention, please visit the official Kultima website.
To find out in detail where our booth will be, here's a map of the festival.

We also have a surprise for those among you who won't be able to visit us in Paris: Our printed Kultima wallpaper is now also available as a 1280x1024 digital wallpaper for your desktop!

I think that it's pretty safe to say that if you do not see any videos dedicated to in-game features here or on the official TNE website, then there is simply none in existence at this time. The trailer does feature SOME in-game footage, though.

There are ingame mechanics in place, but due to all the FedCon preparations, absolutely no time to shoot a trailer. You wouldn't wanna know the stress we're in right now ^^
