Nuclear Dawn is a modification for Valveās Source engine that combines visceral and violent First Person Shooter action with fast-paced Real Time Strategy in the aftermath of an apocalyptic war. You can choose the mission or lead the attack as a commander, marshalling resources and deploying weapons and equipment for your team to use. You can storm a building as an assault trooper, cling to the shadows and rely on your active camouflage as a stealth, or unleash terrible firepower from a powered suit of exo-armor. You have the responsibility and the power to decide the outcome of every engagement. If your opponents are lucky there will be enough of them left to bury.

In this week's media release we profile mapper and environmental artist, Henning "sa74n" Horstmann and take a look at his main piece for Nuclear Dawn, nd_japan.
We have a lot of talented and experienced members working on the mod, and for many of them that experience has come via previous modding endeavors. sa74n has an impressive portfolio of work: he started off making custom maps for Counter-Strike and The Specialists before later moving on to Destiny and Half-Life: Nightwatch before joining Nuclear Dawn. It just goes to show that in modding there's no substitute for sticking at what you do best and seing your projects through to the end.
...and even after a whopping 18 months on the team, that's exactly what sa74n's doing! Despite being picked up by Splash Damage, he has vowed to stick with ND for the foreseeable future. For details on sa74n's work for Nuclear Dawn and some of the media we haven't shown on the main site, please visit his portfolio and to see more screens and the full developer profile direct yourself, as usual, to:

You really want me to buy that? I'd like to as it's really looking great, but you have to do better.
Fake, :-/
Release a vid and i'll believe otherwise, all your posted content so far is bullshit. If your in alpha. Post a video, stop posing in gmod or photoshop.
The image links are broken, they end up taking me to a site called "World Wide Web Consortium" at W3.org
That's what happens when you copy+paste and leave in the "s in the URL code :S
That's because they've been posted wrong, just take a look at the address the images are linked to. It's easy to modify it to be able to view the pics.
Apart from that i seriously have to ask if you guys haven't learned from the past. Again you posted two images of exactly the same scene (pic #3 and #4), just with a changed viewing angle. I don't want to criticise your work as you may have your reasons to do this, but it caught my eye and i don't like it.
Hot damn. This looks better every day.
This mod is so cool
The images were painstakingly taken in a recent alpha test with human players 'posing for the camera', so to speak (no HUD because it's still WIP). It's nothing new in mod media and it's to give you an idea of the tactical side of the gameplay.
Those pics also show off a new weapon model we've just got in-game.
Oh my god..
Very impressed... I would even say you have topped Valve in the mapping and look.... very well done, and well deserved of all the interviews and publicity you have been recieving.... Ohh... if your mapper gets board with real life maps, he can map a couple of levels of a Xindi Battle Cruiser for our mod if he likes... lol... (I wish!!!!) GO HERE
Uhh, Destiny and Nightwatch were never finished... So I guess it actually pays NOT to see your projects through the end.
lol shameless plug there captain! anyhoo yeah media looks great can't wait to play it. Hope the gameplay matches the visuals. Hell Hope it sounds good too.
this map is pretty awesome. The models are great, and it looks like a completely different looking game.
There isn't anything in the media release to indicate it was posed in MAX/Gmod. The poses aren't that great, and they all seem to be from ingame animations. I don't know why anyone would call this posed, seeing as there is little to indicate that. It look fantastic.
Looks fab guys, keep up the great work :)
Are these posed models too?
Professional developers using professional posing of media
No matter, it looks awesome.
Why do fat people sue McDonald's?
Really, fake or not, who cares?
This stuff is gorgeous art if nothing else. Its not like you're going to be paying for this thing, so please stop whining. Posing objects in a 3d world is nothing new for game promotions. Even if it isn't gameplay, it gives us a great idea of what to expect.
I have no doubt that this team, with its size and talent, will pull off what they say. Their tasks are not that daunting in terms of Source; RTS/FPS is nothing new, but is damn fun and with an immersive environment like this, could be leaps and bounds above something like the fantasy setting of "Savage" (which was the first retail FPS/RTS).
I'm not a big fan of their designs overall (the faceless robotic soldier has never appealed to me, nor have oversized, overdesigned weapons, of which the minigun is the only offender) but just because its not my taste doesn't mean I don't recognize that it is amazingly put together, and on par with a lot of professional games out there.
I personally believe nothing until I play it, anything shy of 1st-hand gameplay is fluff. But for what this is, its fantastic. Keep up the great work guys; don't be put off by the jealous naysayers! Can't wait to see more!
But he completed both a map for Counter-Strike and a map fpr The Specialists, and iirc he completed his maps for both Destiny and Nightwatch. The mods might not have been finished, but his work was, and finished work in portfolios is what counts when it comes down to the individual. Sure it would be nice to see your maps played, but at the end of the day the more stuff you've completed, the better pick of mods you get so you can join a mod that will actually get finished once you've put in the hard graft.
