Following hot on the heels of Darwinia, this month's PC Gamer UK carries the news that the celebrated WWII UT2004 mod Red Orchestra, which won the 'Make Something Unreal' competition and with it an engine license, will be released standalone over Steam this January.

Quote:And so another mod turns pro: Red Orchestra, despite making its reputation as a UT2004 total conversion, will be coming to us as a standalone game via Valve's huge bandwidth."

It seems that the Red Orchestra team have been working on their game for this standalone release, so expect some significant improvements over the current mod version.

It's a different game, not just the next point release of RO. They've got an engine license, you can bet they are going to use it!

Shame Steam wasn't around when Maxis was swallowed by EA. I'm sure we'd now have all the classic Maxis there on Steam. Bring on the Theme Park!

How much will it cost, ya know, since everything else costs money on STEAM. (ex. Rag Doll Kung-Fu)

I'm sure they did. :)

Yeah for the dev's! I'd prefer a CD copy instead of steam though. At least I can still play the free mod. :)

Wow I must say this is retarded, yet another game that was free now costing money...I am all for mod developers making money for their creations, but to offer it for years as a free game, then to suddenly charge for it? I'm glad I played it while it lasted, because I will be playing it no longer....Charge for it right away or dont charge for it at all!

I dont know why you guys keep thinking it will cost money, but right now, it says nothing of cost in that post.

It most likely will cost money, but its not due to the fact they have a licensed engine now, since they got it for free...
