Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source.

Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.

Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:

    * Redesign and overhaul of all 18 chapters, the hazard course and deathmatch levels of the original Half-Life and Half-Life DeathMatch games.
    * Models now take advantage of increased polycount limits and normal mapping technology making deadly opponents and friendly coworkers appear more real.
    * A completely original soundtrack and music library bringing Half-Life's themes and feelings to life in the new sounds engine built into the Source Engine.
    * Artifical Intelligence that will hunt you by sight and sound.
    * Normal, bump and specular maps built into textures giving flat surfaces a new, more dynamic look.
    * Co-operative mode, allowing you and your friends to play through Black Mesa together.
    * The entire cast and characters that the world fell in love with more beauty than ever before, bringing truth to the saying, "if looks could kill..."
    * A multiplayer mode allowing for deathmatch and team deathmatch experience with the complete Half-Life 1/Black Mesa Aresonal at your disposal.
    * A priority on gameplay and immersion factors such as sounds, functionality and interaction.
    * Built by developers who's passion is seen through the quality of their work.

This mod is not dead, we are still hard at work on it.

Certainly a great feeling being down for our birthday, doesn't it? Either way we're now back online and without issues (hopefully). It was really something to have people from everyone sending in their support on the forum topics created around the different communities we commute in as well as e-mails and PMs sent through to our developers. It's really great to see such a quick movement of the community when the modification hits a bump.

We would like to thank everyone who sent in their e-mails offering their services, help, support, hosting and everything. We're now hosted by HLGamer.com, who was able to help us and cover all of our development and hosting needs in one go. We are very grateful that there is groups and communities like HLGamer.com who can lend a helping hand with others are in need. We hope you will all head over there and wish them thanks.

We are not entirely sure if we have everything working perfectly, so if everyone could go through the forums trying different features and such to spot any flaws or missing components, that would be great. We would like to extend a big thanks to devicenull, who has lent his services to bringing our mysql database back together and then online! Our website also has some noted issues, so we'll be addressing others as they arise.

This will delay the January 1st update we promised, but hopefully not for too long. Some members have been out of touch from partying for New Years, so you'll understand if the update is run on the 5th or 6th of January. We hope you'll join us in wishing Black Mesa: Source a happy birthday as today it turned one year old!

The agony...294 pages, bloody ages in development, this is probably the longest going, most anticipated, highly rated UNRELEASED mod there has ever been EVER!!...apart from maybe the first weapon mod for UT99 :P.

Yearly updates = no fun.
Dev blogs = annoying cock teasers ><! ='[

Anywho...by the time this comes out, the engine would have developed AGAIN by so much...that it will probably add on another year to port everything over to the updated version or something lol, and at the rate technology is advancing... this mod could end up NEVER being released =\

Tyranick and the people who are really impatient: HL2 was made in 5 years(I think) and Black Mesa has been developed for 4 years so far. The people at Valve were paid, the BM developers aren't. Give them a break. And if you think it's gonna take even longer because you think they'll remake everything again because of HL3 or HL2:EP3, you're wrong, because one of the developers said specifically that they won't. I don't see your problem.
