Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source.

Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.

Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:

    * Redesign and overhaul of all 18 chapters, the hazard course and deathmatch levels of the original Half-Life and Half-Life DeathMatch games.
    * Models now take advantage of increased polycount limits and normal mapping technology making deadly opponents and friendly coworkers appear more real.
    * A completely original soundtrack and music library bringing Half-Life's themes and feelings to life in the new sounds engine built into the Source Engine.
    * Artifical Intelligence that will hunt you by sight and sound.
    * Normal, bump and specular maps built into textures giving flat surfaces a new, more dynamic look.
    * Co-operative mode, allowing you and your friends to play through Black Mesa together.
    * The entire cast and characters that the world fell in love with more beauty than ever before, bringing truth to the saying, "if looks could kill..."
    * A multiplayer mode allowing for deathmatch and team deathmatch experience with the complete Half-Life 1/Black Mesa Aresonal at your disposal.
    * A priority on gameplay and immersion factors such as sounds, functionality and interaction.
    * Built by developers who's passion is seen through the quality of their work.

This mod is not dead, we are still hard at work on it.

Some of the music sounds a little weird........
That's not HL style maybe.
But anyway, the music itself is awesome.

It would be great if some HL remixes appeear but ,
the copyright shoot make it impossible......

Ya sure? I think the musics of Half-Life 2 can be also used (many are from HL1, at least I saw other mods where they used it.)

I'd prefer the original musics as well, btw -they're the part of Half-Life.

Well, if HL2 is a requirement to play the mod then there's no problem using the music from it (the HL2 soundtrack includes several original HL tracks). The trouble with using the original HL music would be them not fitting the particular remade scene anymore. They created everything from scratch...so music would also have to be adjusted/remade to fit the new game :)

And the new tunes are top notch me thinks.

Well, there's Interview for BMS on YouGamers, it said that they are not using original music and sounds from HL due to copyright issues.
I think maybe a MOD can get LIMITED use of the materials of the original game but not full use of them.Music of HL is published and announced "No illegal use" while models are not.

Pretty Much agreed. Also, would like to add that, even if the mod is not dead, speculations running that this mod is going to be bought by Gearbox Software or even Valve? :}
