Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source.

Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.

Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:

    * Redesign and overhaul of all 18 chapters, the hazard course and deathmatch levels of the original Half-Life and Half-Life DeathMatch games.
    * Models now take advantage of increased polycount limits and normal mapping technology making deadly opponents and friendly coworkers appear more real.
    * A completely original soundtrack and music library bringing Half-Life's themes and feelings to life in the new sounds engine built into the Source Engine.
    * Artifical Intelligence that will hunt you by sight and sound.
    * Normal, bump and specular maps built into textures giving flat surfaces a new, more dynamic look.
    * Co-operative mode, allowing you and your friends to play through Black Mesa together.
    * The entire cast and characters that the world fell in love with more beauty than ever before, bringing truth to the saying, "if looks could kill..."
    * A multiplayer mode allowing for deathmatch and team deathmatch experience with the complete Half-Life 1/Black Mesa Aresonal at your disposal.
    * A priority on gameplay and immersion factors such as sounds, functionality and interaction.
    * Built by developers who's passion is seen through the quality of their work.

This mod is not dead, we are still hard at work on it.

We've been hearing a lot of things circulate throughout the community recently, so, to clarify: we're NOT dead. We're working behind the scenes and Black Mesa is really starting to shape up. Our weapons are in-game, skinned and undergoing the animating process. Our levels are filling up with custom textures and world props. Instead of ERROR signs, we now have houndeyes and bullsquids to play with. Instead of Kleiners everywhere, we actually have some of our own scientists standing about: sadly, not yelling profanity at Gordon just yet.

We're really proud of the progress we've made since January and a lot of that work has been made possible by a fresh batch of development talent and overall team dedication. In the Character Modeling department we're welcoming cman2k & CGJeff: both of whom model and skin their creations. In 2D Art we're welcoming Piks3y and Redmotion, both well experienced in their areas of talent. In Level Design we're introducing kol, already working on his respective chapter. For Prop Modeling & Skinning we're welcoming grudge, Kobi, vertthrasher, Evolution, and tremulant. Finally in the Animation department we have Damian, already working on a small assortment of weapons. On top of all this we have several individuals on the applicant list showing great promise.

With all of the new faces, we're still looking to secure some more developers. Our biggest need is in the prop modeling, prop skinning, texture art and character animator areas, but as always we are willing to look at applicants to other departments. For anyone interested, make sure you send an e-mail to jobs@blackmesasource.com with a bit about you, your past experience and some examples of your work.

Also worth noting is the work on the Black Mesa script. It has been going on for little over two months now and we are beginning to prepare for positions in voice acting and experienced FacePoser users. We do not want to see any voice acting applicants just yet, but we will make a public announcement when we are as well as how to apply.

For anyone who missed the notice in the January update, we are in a development crunch. During this period no new media will be released and we will be turning down any interviews/previews with Black Mesa. This allows us to focus directly on everything as a whole, rather than on a few areas to bring them up for public-release quality. In this development crunch we are moving to secure our custom textures, models, weapons, characters, levels, code, sound and other such assets into Black Mesa.

Hopefully this stops the rumours for a while so we can focus more on our work and less on the "Oh no, Black Mesa is dead!" messages we're seeing. As always, our official forum community at Forums.blackmesasource.com is the place to chat with developers and to get the latest on what's happening with Black Mesa.

Pestering us for updates won’t make us update you any faster. If nothing else, it’s annoying and rude.

Though it's really a pity that BMS hasn't a new screenshot for months.
Still I'm glad the work is now quiet and nice without fuzzes.
Devblogs are occasionally updated, and I know that the MOD is still alive.
I hopefully looking forward to its debut in this November, when Half-Life will encounter its 10th anniversary, if possible.

Half-Life will become 10 years old if possible, or Black Mesa will be released that time -if possible :-)

Just kidding.

I knew most of these screenshots -but honestly not all!
-The 'old decomisiioned rail system' looks cool (like everything else).

I recommend this link. It won't be much, but it can have some sense of new..---
