The Way to BlackHeart Manor Mission Video
Dec 31, 2007 Full Version 0 commentsIt has been awhile since we have indulged in a video, so we felt that now would be a good time. Before you watch, there are a few things you need to take...
In The Dark Mod, you play a master thief living in a dark, sprawling city. A blend of gothic architecture and steampunk technology, the city contains great, belching chimneys, grand cathedrals, and medieval manor-houses. As a master of the shadows, you move through the city streets unseen, avoiding the eyes (and blades) of the city's thieves' guild, while doing jobs for the various political factions. Nobles, mages or the Church, it doesn't matter, as long as the pay is good.
In technical terms, our goal is to create a complete conversion of the Doom 3 platform, turning it into a stealth-based game. We will be creating new and improved AI, and new models and textures that support a 'steampunk' genre made popular by Looking Glass Studio's "Thief" franchise.
This mod is, first and foremost, a toolkit. Although it will ship with some playable maps, our goal is to provide people with all the tools necessary to create their own Medieval Steampunk Fan Missions.

Broken Glass Studios is proud to present Thief's Den, a short alpha demo of The Dark Mod. Thief's Den is just a few rooms but it is a complete, fully playable mission, and includes a good selection of the main Dark Mod features. Keep in mind that The Dark Mod is still a work in progress and this is reflected in the demo. Voices are temporary placeholders, for example, and AI behaviour is not yet fully developed. You will certainly find bugs and glitches but we hope that doesn't spoil your enjoyment too much.
Any flaws or failings in this demo do not necessarily indicate limitations in The Dark Mod's potential but just this particular demo — which was originally begun as a very rough accompaniment to a mission development tutorial. It was never intended for release as a playable mission but was modified into a workable game so everyone could see the current state of progress and have some fun.
Instructions for installing the alpha can be found here.

This mod is definitley going to be amazing. Just played the Demo and I was impressed, a lot of atmospherical effect, the rain driping on the floor etc. I still found a few bugs, but I think everyone did, 'cause it's an alpha. So, keep on the good work, can't wait to play the final modification!

The Dark Mod does not yet run on Mac, only linux and windows. If we ever find a programmer familiar with Macs, we will have them work on creating a build for it.
