Q.What is Insurgency?
A. Insurgency ("INS") is a total conversion modification (multiplayer) for Half-Life 2, which runs on Valve's Source game engine.

Insurgency takes you across the modern battlefield, engaging in intense firefights and battles as a member of either a highly organized and equipped conventional force (US Marines), or as an unconventional fighter that uses a combination of firepower and bravery to take on their sometimes overwhelming opponent (Insurgents).

Intense realism will keep you alert as you and your team try accomplish the mission's objectives. Specified roles are included within each Squad that make up your team's Platoon. Command and control from a 4-soldier Fireteam, to an 8-soldier Squad, up to a 32-soldier Platoon. A unique point system ensures that online combat veterans will be rewarded for their leadership and tactical abilities so that they can rise through the ranks and command the platoon.

Grab one of the many weapons in the arsenal and join the fight using guerrilla tactics against the powerful enemy, fire RPGs at enemy infantry, or deploy your machine gun to take down entire platoons!

Operation: CO-IN has now officially changed their name over to 'Insurgency.'

The modern battlefield has witnessed many engagements between Guerrilla and Conventional forces. Insurgency will bring these fights to an online multiplayer battlefield using Valve's Source Technology from Half-Life 2. Engage in past, present, and fictional infantry battles throughout the world. From the Balkans to Iraq to Chechnya, join as either an Unconventional or Conventional team that caters to both casual and tactical gamers.

With the name change, comes once again a new website at a new domain (www.insurgencymod.net)

This also brings some brand new media:

there is a very strict standard that you must meet ot qualify as a beta tester... and that includes how rich are you or your parents and how fast can you get the money into argy's bank account.
keep that in mind once beta testing is announced :P

We will be releasing some in game screenshots once we feel that they are worthy of being released :) When they do come, most, if not all, of the content you will see in them will be completely work created by INS Developers - not containing any HL2 or CS: Source content, like the majority of the screenshots are shown now.

It will be worth the wait ;)

BF42 maps are tiny, so are BF2 maps from the looks of things. I've been spoiled with Operation Flashpoint. The maps in that are HUGE!

Hey, as a Beta Tester and Moderator, I can assure you that things are going great! The dev team is sending us at least 2 updates a day. Gameplay is very fun, realistic, and I could go on. As you can see by the new pictures, mappers are doing there job, top notch. They haven't told us any release date yet, but I'm guessing 1 month and a half? 2? I hope the Dev team gives us all a nice stocking stuffer this year ;). Maybe you guys can give them a present by voting MOTY. They deserve it. Despite the many leadership transitions, the bugs, viruses, all the problems, the team never gave up. Look at all the mods in the DB. Count how many look promising.. Then, look a their staff. Those are people who won't give up. For you, and for themselves. It is really an accomplishment to pull off a mod like this, and for that, you guys get my vote, and my dedication.

Thanks guys for working so hard, I'll do my part and go do some testing :)

Don't get your hopes down MODDB. INS IS COMING!

the bf1942 maps were huge, but with wasted space. Like one map had at least 10 times the size of the main battle area just out there for no reason...

i just hope these are big enough to get the feel of actually being there, like maybe AAO sized

The sizes will vary. You'll have big maps and you'll have small maps and even some in between!~
