Q.What is Insurgency?
A. Insurgency ("INS") is a total conversion modification (multiplayer) for Half-Life 2, which runs on Valve's Source game engine.
Insurgency takes you across the modern battlefield, engaging in intense firefights and battles as a member of either a highly organized and equipped conventional force (US Marines), or as an unconventional fighter that uses a combination of firepower and bravery to take on their sometimes overwhelming opponent (Insurgents).
Intense realism will keep you alert as you and your team try accomplish the mission's objectives. Specified roles are included within each Squad that make up your team's Platoon. Command and control from a 4-soldier Fireteam, to an 8-soldier Squad, up to a 32-soldier Platoon. A unique point system ensures that online combat veterans will be rewarded for their leadership and tactical abilities so that they can rise through the ranks and command the platoon.
Grab one of the many weapons in the arsenal and join the fight using guerrilla tactics against the powerful enemy, fire RPGs at enemy infantry, or deploy your machine gun to take down entire platoons!

Hey folks!
It's been a while since our last media release, but be assured that work on Insurgency is progressing very smoothly, albeit behind closed doors. As a show of good faith for all your waiting, I've compiled together some footage from the mod featuring several weapons from both the US Marine and Insurgent sides. These are the M249, M4, Makarov and RPG7 respectively.
We're also looking for a few talented people to help us out. Read on for more information!
Please keep in mind that this is just a teaser, we're aware you're desperate to see the game in action, but gameplay won't be featured
until we feel it's ready to show.

hey can you run tis with only HL2 DM & CSS??
in this mod can u ride a tank like an M1 abrams or ride a helicopter or call airstrikes? (cauz thats what usually marines do)
Great mod, but, I wish we could go back to beta 1.0 game play.
i love this game. i have a multigaming clan and we playing this too. if want a war or just want to join please sign me up on steam. account: ion41
When i was playing the game it had crashed while loading a server when i restarted cause nothing else worked it had windows stay on a blue page saying "Windows is starting up..." and when i install this mod i notice that it has failed to copy 2 things but it doesnt say what they are
I had a hard lock myself. As I'm constantly afraid my computer's going to crash entirely and I'll lose everything (I can't reformat) I immediately uninstalled INS. What could've caused the game to crash?
I truly like the atmosphere of this mod, and the attempt at realism intrigues me. The maps are mostly well-designed and visually appealing. The music and sound effects are nice (like the fact that the insurgent voices are in a different language when you play as marines). The combat is satisfying without being overwhelming. Some mods that strive for realism seem to think that this means implementing sluggish controls and frustrating gameplay. Not so with Insurgency: it's a good mix of CS:S action and 'realism' pacing and tactical thinking.
The downside to the mod is that even with the second server hotfix, I crash frequently. Griefing is constant and frustrating. Although some maps are well thought-out, some maps are VERY poorly designed with such obvious issues as the potential for spawnkilling and having a sniper's nest easily accessible by enemies that overlooks your spawn. Weapon balancing is an issue; some guns are powerful and some are nearly useless. The interface for both in-game action and in class and team selection works poorly. For example, afaik there's no voice command interface--only the automatic voices that occur when you execute actions. Instead, there's a note in the manual that says that you need your own microphone. The game experience for those of us without one suffers appropriately. The worst of the bugs was the fact that the sniper rifles simply did not work, period. I'm glad this issue was fixed with the hotfixes but such a severe bug is indicative of the issues that the game faces.
Insurgency is very promising. When I can play without crashes or griefers it's loads of fun. Yet it's still clearly VERY beta, and there are quite a few bugs that need to be addressed. Most of these are obvious and while the coding to fix them may be complex, the changes to game mechanic seem simple. Therefore once the devs polish the gameplay as much as they've polished graphics and sound, it should do quite well.
I vote 9
