Rats never had it, they merely ran from the infected because they didn't want to be eaten by the infected (if they were infected the little girl I think angie was her name would have been infected and the rats would have been aggressive toward her). The chimps that had it were directly infected in a lab, and it's unclear if they can be infected by a person. A crow was eating at a body in 28 days and it wasn't infected, so I don't think dogs could be infected by the virus >.<.
I'm pretty sure it can't spread to anything but other humans

dogs didnt get infected they were carriers of the virus get your facts right
rats never got it they were running away from the infected in the first movie and chimps are most like humans and the virus originated from the chimps as well so did aids but there arnt many cases with animals.
