Empires 2.1x -> Empires 2.12 Client Hotfix
Jan 30, 2008 Patch 4 commentsThis is a hotfix for Empires 2.1. This will fix a crash and add a new resource counter that shows how resources are changing per second. This can be installed...
Empires is a mod for Half-Life 2 which will combine the genres of real-time strategy and first person shooter. Each team has four classes to choose from (scout, rifleman, grenadier, and engineer) with unique weapons and skills each. One player will become the commander by entering the team's command vehicle to build the team's base and lead his team to victory. Once your base is built up, purchase vehicles from your team's vehicle factory to open up another facet of Empires' gameplay. Vehicles can be customized with unique weapons, armor, and engines. The commander can research improvements to all aspects of vehicles such as longer range cannons, homing missiles, and armor-piercing machine gun rounds. Once your team is prepared, lead an assault into the enemy base. The enemy team is defeated when all players are wiped out with either no place to respawn or no reinforcements remaining or the team's command vehicle is destroyed.

Here are two more videos showing off our new weapons which will be included in our next release. This time we're showcasing the Northern Faction shotgun pistol which holds two shells at a time and packs a powerful punch. The second weapon is the Northern Faction scout rifle which is now bolt operated. The bolt action is operated after each shot and serves as a crucial indicator for when the next round can be fired. These videos were taken in the map Slaughtered (created by Hellion) which has received improvements from its previous version in the form of HDR and other graphical enhancements.
Visit our home page to see the videos for these two weapons.

Keep up the good work. ;)
I haven't played Empires very frequently overall, but from 1.0 to 2.0 is like night and day. Lag is pretty rare now, I only saw it during some 8 on 8 tank and artillery skirmishes with turrets and infantry firing off rockets and such. Speaking of, fights are /awesome/ now.
There's still incendiary attacks that overheat enemy vehicles instantly, I've always thought that a little cheap, BUT if you just hold the fire button down you can fire off fairly frequent salvos before you get overheated again, so it's more just a 'mobility' kill.
I may be wrong but apparently nukes act only to raise the heat of enemy vehicles in a large radius, potent yes but it's no longer an 'I win' button. I like that.
Artillery is very reasonable now, it used to be that they could just spam you with artillery shots that would annihilate anything from infantry to heavy tanks in a huge radius, now, I think the AoE is tweaked down a lot and all vehicles are faster so they can close the distance and get in where the artillery is vulnerable.
It is a vehicle-dominated game, but having vehicle factories instead of static spawns eliminates much of the camping lameness inherent to that, and many of the maps have inaccessible or interior areas that infantry can take refuge in. I wonder if they're thinking of letting you research new infantry weapons at some point though.. it would seem late in the game when resources are abundant there's no good reason to not get yourself a tank. Something as simple as faster-reloading rocket launchers or light-weight sticky bombs that can be thrown a longer distance could even the odds when heavy tanks with good armor are a dime-a-dozen.
Nukes still do a massive amount of damage, with a huge radius. It hasn't really changed much at all.
I am glad a lot more people play it now. It is more stable and the bugs are barely noticeable. I hope to see the aircraft portion in the near future.
empires was released on my birthday!!
Well what better gift could you have asked for, eh?
