Empires is a mod for Half-Life 2 which will combine the genres of real-time strategy and first person shooter. Each team has four classes to choose from (scout, rifleman, grenadier, and engineer) with unique weapons and skills each. One player will become the commander by entering the team's command vehicle to build the team's base and lead his team to victory. Once your base is built up, purchase vehicles from your team's vehicle factory to open up another facet of Empires' gameplay. Vehicles can be customized with unique weapons, armor, and engines. The commander can research improvements to all aspects of vehicles such as longer range cannons, homing missiles, and armor-piercing machine gun rounds. Once your team is prepared, lead an assault into the enemy base. The enemy team is defeated when all players are wiped out with either no place to respawn or no reinforcements remaining or the team's command vehicle is destroyed.

It's been much too long since our last update, and much has happened since then. Our next release will feature all new weapon models and animations, and all rifle weapons will have iron sights for their secondary fire mode. All SMGs will retain their melee attack. All of the Northern Faction models and animations have been completed, but the Brenodi Empire animations have not. Our desire to get the next release out there is increasing every day, and it appears that we're going to go ahead and release within the next few weeks without all new weapon models and animations. This has been the only factor holding back the next release.

New NF .50 Cal Rifle New NF Assault Rifle
New BE SMG 2 New Grenade

The pictures didn't link to the videos like I wanted. Go to our main site ( Empiresmod.com ), and you can download a video clip for each weapon pictured here.

It's amazing what your team manages to do, to polish a good mod for its final release. I have been following Empires for years, playing it every now and then, always waiting for aeroplanes, since day 1, of course ;-). All your design decisions so far were really good in my eyes, but I wish there were more defensive measures for your base against enemies. It will probably all be perfect, once there are planes in this.
Modding Steam to this extent deserves some applause. You really had to fight against the glitches and in my eyes you have won the game!
Thank you for making this mod!

The mod was okay but I didn't like the way it felt.

Tanks: seemed to fire rockets (even the tanks cannon seemed like a rocket) Make them more ballistic and drop the smoke streams. Ive never seen a cannon have a smoke stream. Infact, you never see the projectile until just before it hits.

Buildings: reminded me of renegade in a bad way. They didnt seem very solid, It was like the phys box determined the actual structure (wich dont really work well) Clip brushes would have worked better IMO

Infantry: The weapon models were great but the skins sucked and they didnt bob up and down when the player moved... the fact that the gun stayed stationary the entire time really ruined it for me.

Sound: after 10 mins I got really tired of the default explosion sounds and the default metal hit sounds. I really enjoyed hl2's sounds up until this mod because it just gets annoying. Try to get custom sounds and get 5 or six different sounds per action so it stays fresh.

Maps: Not bad. But they need more texture. The grass and cliff texture gets repetitive after awhile and looks like a looping grid. Try to bring in more alpha maps and mix it up a bit! also, PROPS!!! get some foliage and detail! oh, and... HDR HDR HDR!

BAM, follow those tips and your mod will be nearly perfect.

yeah I enjoyed Iron Grip for a bit, and there really isn't too much lag, but i got bored with fighting the same repetative bots :\

and then the latest patch broke the game for me and i can't get it to work... :(

but yeah, Iron grip is a good mod.
