Tons of custom stories for Amnesia: The Dark Descent were published on Desura during last months, and with the current trend of huge amounts of new custom stories added daily to ModDB & IndieDB, many more may be released in coming days, thanks to developers & mappers of Amnesia user-made stories.

Info for developers

What do you need to do to see your custom story on Desura?

Your custom story can be published only if
1) its releases (downloads) are added to ModDB/IndieDB
2) its release date is set to released (only released CSs are on Desura)
3) it installs to custom_stories folder or installs to its own single folder (like isolated conversions such as Parasomnia or Deterioration)

Also you can ensure that your mod profile
1) has some news articles added
2) has at least 7 screenshots uploaded to the Images section
3) promotional media (screenshots, videos) are of high quality & resolution e.g. in-game screenshots instead of editor screenshots
(otherwise your CS won't be shown on the main page of Desura and it may get less attention than it deserves)

"Complex" custom stories (total conversions) that install directly to the main Amnesia game directory could be also published on Desura but at the moment it's strongly unrecommended and a little discouraged due to many possible user problems with installing & uninstalling such stories through Desura (and without Desura).

It's simply easiest and best practice to have your mods install to their own folders without copying anything to original game folders or overwriting anything from the main game folders. Most modders and mods on ModDB do that unless specific game engine disallows hardcore modifications or total conversions. Parasomnia and Deterioration are examples that prove that Amnesia is highly moddable and isolated total conversions installing to their own folders are definitely possible.

Your custom story will be automatically published by Desura staff if your mod meets the first set of requirements detailed above - it has 1) download added to ModDB/IndieDB 2) it's released 3) installs in a simple way.

The observation is bugged as **** when you try to place the barrels on the buttons with and with out lights on they just bounce away or the button moves and you fall down the floor etc fix that pls..

you're not supposed to place the barrels ON the buttons, your supposed to make them fall onto the buttons simultaneously. what you do you grab one, put out your lantern while you are still holding it and place it a few feet above one of the buttons, then let go of it. then do the same thing with the other barrel and the other button. then just stand in the middle of the two and turn on your lantern to make them activate again.

hey cry, i think there is something wrong with the download, i have been stuck on the map observation for quite some time now. i am in a big room with a lever that turns on a blue torch at the very back of the room. i watched a video to see if i was missing anything and in the video there was a massive set of cogs on each side of the wall. for some reason the cogs are non existent for me. i would greatly appreciate it if you were to look into it for me. i have always been a fan of your work and i really want to complete this custom story.

And you're right it's a really nice one, they could've used such puzzles in the original game.

I was only confused because i thought i HAD to find a key now to proceed and thought it's stuck there :D

I played through many of them but i've found a problem with the Map of "Palistov", it's the level when you go upstairs and into the first door on the left.

When you've read the note upstairs and you have to get the key which is located in the drawer in his room because somebody always went into the vine cellar (or something i can't recall it perfectly).

Now in his room downstairs, when you try to get the key out of the drawer i hear a *clunk* noise when i pull the drawers out, it seems/sounds like the key is stuck somewhere between the drawers, so you can't grab it, you don't see anything of the key, you just here that clunking noise.

But until now it was really fun, you did an awesome job !

The quality of the maps are a tad inconsistent at times, but most of the maps are amazing, and the introduction is just brilliant. However, the ending was disappointing with all that build-up.

"Untitled" and "Challenge" are my two favorites, although "Observation" definently had good puzzles.

This custom looked really promising, and had really good potential. However, I'm afraid it fell far from what it could reach. The beginning was quite good, seemed really funny and well put together. But when i reached the entrance hall and tried these "Custom Stories" i was rather disappointed. It seems the definition of a CUstom "Story" is a bunch of badly put together and completely irrelevent demos from other custom stories that do not contribute to the main story at all.
