This mod has probably some of the best level design I've seen in any mod ever. Levels feel authentic, and fairly large without ever feeling empty. Its got unique music that suits Deus Ex, more retro weaponry and mechanical augs. Its got readables for added depth and a few branching storylines. Its also a tad harder than DX.
Its amazing how
Feels like what DX:HR should have been.
This mod has a number of improvements, like a inventory for corpses... shops sell weapons so money is actually important now.. Spybot is now item instead of a aug.
I think simplifying the skills is a good idea for the fact that Deus Ex is a longer game than this mod. So your not going get as much skill points. To get around that would have meant higher skill point awards which would have made you to powerful to quickly.
Consolidating swimming & environmental training, hacking/electronics, and demolitions/heavy weapons, while buffing existing skills like Mechanics (lockpicking) by improving your ability to upgrade personal bots.
But.. Medicine is the governing skill for melee weapons now...
I do like the idea of Medicine giving you a better understanding of a persons vital points, could be a interesting perk...
I don't agree with combining them considering it does take real skill to use a simple weapon like a baton effectively... or a deadly weapon like a Katana.
Close Combat training should have been added, with the added advantage of martial arts perks, like being able to disarm someone, throw them to ground, put them into submission holds, and effectively throw weapons like shurikens/throwing knives. But thats asking for to much out of a one man mod team.
No voice acting makes the mod feel like its missing something but its not a necessity, more like a luxury. Those cutscenes go to fast for me to read so it feels needed.
In the end I do feel that it could have been longer but I'm satisfied with what we got.
I really wanted to like this mod...it gave me that sense of being small, of being the underdog against a global conspiracy.
After playing human revolution and feeling rather let down by the "he went there and did this and I over explain everything" storyline, I was hoping this mod could give me what I was hoping for...I could nitpick about the questionable translation, but I'm not going to because in the end the conversations are at least tangiable...No, what really dissapointed me about this mod were the amount of stupid decisions the creators made that just destroyed the gameplay. Allow me to explain...
there were a few niggles leading up that bothered me slightly, but I was willing to look past them...scenarios like: Run past this turret and soak up bullets, or spend 3 mintues using this box and pushing it along for cover...or, run into this hazardous area full of spiderbots to get the re-breather that you need because some weird stuff is draining your Bio-Energy...just little annoying things that take away your choice, and don't make good gameplay...I merely noted them, reminded myself this is a mod, and simply let it go, still trying REALLY HARD now to enjoy the game...then I get told I need to fight my way out of a situation, with a fuzzy effect on my screen, agaisnt MJ12 soldiers, MIB AND a security bot! With NO EMP whatsoever!! I could barely even see with the stupid effect on my screen, let alone fight off this army! Not to mention there's something about the combat mechanics that feel rather clumsy, even for Deus ex standards. Headshots don't seem to count, the innacuracy and recoil of weapons seems a bit much...Even when upgraded to medium, it was still like starting out on the lowest skill on the original deus ex...only with added recoil. There wasn't even an option to sneak around them! It was at this point that I stopped forgiving these ridiculous design decisions and un-installed the terrible mod!
