I loved this modification of Deus Ex. Overall very well done. I didn't care about the voice acting because it would've ruined the game a little if it wasn't as spectacular as the gameplay, story, and improved stunning graphics. This mod looks like it had been created by professionals! LOVE!!!! It is a gorgeous work of art!
Probably, one of the most original DX's mod that has been made.
First I liked was the new skill points system and reorganization of it, which simplifies it but also add several new features, robotic system for example. Secondly, the new loot system, which gives a real fresh air compared to all other mods who kept old way of DX1 (Even TNM). The story is very good, I really enjoyed the fact about Magnus. And let's not forget about the omar, adding interest to the mod. The new graphics system is addicting and really adds a lot to the mood of the game.
The only flaw I found was the fact that is mod is way too short and maybe a little hard at the beginning.
Otherwise, this mod is a must for any real DX Fan. At this point, I consider it as a "Alternate past" of DX.
Visually, probably the best mod for Deus Ex, with interesting and atmospheric locations. The mod is let down by poor performance and the writing, which is reminiscent of Redsun2020 and shares the same flaws.
The end mission and boss fight were definitely the low point; the boss is damn near impossible to beat without exploiting the engine AI. He disables grenades mid-flight and wipes out your bioelectric reserve if he gets close, meaning you have to try and shoot him from a distance while dodging his shots (which will instantly kill you.) Boss fights have always been terrible in Deus Ex games, but this is by far the worst I've ever seen.
The endings were also very stale, which was a shame given the interesting cinematics earlier in the mod.
Excellent mod, with a quite good storyline, pleasant maps and a sufficient duration. But the best point is the new stuff: the new weapons (including the spiders, drones and new grenades), the new enemies, the new skills and the new augs bring many new fighting/playing possibilities. I actually fighted much differently than in DX.
But there are some bad points. The difficulty goes from very hard in the first half to very easy in the second half of the game. Several times, especially in the first half, infiltration is made impossible for no justifiable reason (enemies who know where you are without seeing you, alarms that sound while being bypassed...), turning from time to time this true DX mod to a basic FPS. Also, I didn't get the same feeling as in DX or in its better mods about the different "factions" of the game: I didn't care that much about the choices I made. And it didn't felt like a DX prequel to me at all.
Still, this mod deserves a 9/10, with a 10 on creativity.
I haven't reviewed 2027, but since I was hyped before I played it, I got the russian version fist which I didn't understood anything at some point but, I could play it as it was very familiar deus ex interface. Then I ended up to get the english version. I wasn't surprised about the lack of story focus as the mod was at first built in matters of game without the story at first as the team didn't had a writer for it.
The level design is great even if I found a bit lacky in therms of alternate paths, but those are often well hidden providing more challenge to find and be able to use compared to stock Deus Ex. We are already augmented in a more enhanced way than Deus Ex, some newer augmentations are interesting and the enemies are smarter than in vanilla, even if the AI haven't fundamentally changed, it's been tweaked to become a better challenge. The gunplay is a major point for this mod, a thing that pretty much all the deus ex mods lacks of, although I found the fact that trying to be stealthy with the guns was quite too hard as they don't get high accuracy focus which means if you intend to use a gun, be prepared for a fight ... Most guns are just guns from the reality aside of the heavy weapons, crossbow and melee. The looting system has been improved as we can select what we want to take from the corpses, ammo, weapons, keys, credits, others items, that kind of thing should be implemented to shifter. I find it allowing use to not waste ammo just because we don't know what's on the corpse ... I also loved to be able to carry bots and even be able to use the skills in order to have a better proficiency with them as well as having perks which are handy. The bots allowed us to be a drone master additionally to the other skills we get in deus ex. I think the new weapons may had some less lethal additions, but well we had the less lethal drone which was a great addition to deus ex's arsenal. I also loved that the phone had actually an utility :).
