In Crystalline the player controls the character in an abstract universe. While collecting energy crystals the player must avoid the dangerous Chaos beings. Stopping them from dissolving the remaining crystal structures is the last hope of saving the crystalline beings.

So who are we and why are we making a game?

DADIU is the official Danish game development education. It is publicly funded and supported by all large Danish game developers, including IO Interactive (Hitman) and Deadline Games (Total Overdoze). Students come from Danish universities and art schools.

Being from several different universities and art schools from all over Denmark a DADIU production is limited to one month only. While attending this game production we still have all regular exams running at the same time. Many of us are final-year students and once this game hits its deadline we will go back to our final exams and projects.

The size of our group is smaller than most DADIU productions since we had several people leaving the group right before production start. First our Game Director left. She was supposed to lead the stylistic direction of the game but she wasn't interested in games at all. Then the lead programmer left us. This meant that we didn't have any programmers with experience in the Source engine. The result of this has been slower-than-expected progress. But the purpose of DADIU is not to make the next Quake or Halo, it is to learn about the process of making games. We accommodated to the changes in our group and have enjoyed being part of this production and are looking forward to releasing Crystalline to the world :-)

Crystalline is inspired by the casual games genre but has a darker and rougher feel to it. It is has a faster pace than most and is a step away from the "bubble gum aesthetics" seen in titles such as Bejewelled, Zuma and Peggle. We hope this will create an interesting game.

DADIU is actually on its third year now. Check out FLIPSIDE ( Moddb.com ), Iris ( Moddb.com ) or The Way ( Moddb.com ) for some earlier DADIU productions.
