Welcome to Middle-earth Role Playing (MERP), a total conversion for Oblivion Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Literary works; The Lord of the Rings
For the latest news keep an eye on the Elder Scrolls Thread
Need to know how to install the mod? Also see Bethsoft.com for info on installing Oblivion mods in general.
`The MERP team is making an addition to Oblivion that is the world of Middle-earth. It will add all of Middle-earth in it's entirity, obvioulsy including but listed for your enjoyment; Eriador (realm of The Shire, Rivendell, Bree, Grey Havens, Weathertop, Ruins of Agmar, Ruins of Hollin, Ruins of Fornost, Moria, etc...) Rohan (Including Isengard, Edoras, Helms Deep, etc...) Rhovanion (Lothlorien, Mirkwood, Dale, Rhun, Anduin, etc...) Gondor (Need I elaborate?) Mordor (Barad-Dur, Minas Morgul, Cirith Ungol, etc...) and Harad (Umbar, Region of Khand, Southern Jungles, Desert Harad, etc...)
It has not been decided weather we will delete Tamriel or not yet, but we may if we cannot get our ingame maps worked out :P
`Our goal as a team is to realize the world of J.R.R. Tolkien as closely as we can to his vision. We hold the lore to a very high standard and will not compromise the lore at all if we can. We do use the visual appearance of the films, but if there is a conflict then we always take the book over the movie. An few exsamples; there will not be any full plate armor, the outter wall of Minas Tirith will be black, and Minas Morgul will have white stone like Minas Tirith. We work very hard to bring a quality product that matches the same level, if not surpasses the original Oblivion game. We want to make our work look like professional game developers made it.
We ask that you do not discuss legal infomation in this thread, as our policy is quite clear, as it says on our official site.
"This site is for the team to save, load, and share files with other team members, and cannot be used for public download. If you are not a member of the team of artists and programmers on the Middle-earth Roleplaying Project you may not enter this site with our permission and will be breaking our agreement. We are artists with a common goal to recreate the world of J.R.R Tolkien in the Oblivion engine and DO NOT have to release any files to the public should it be found a violation of copyright laws. That however cannot stop the production. We take an Artist's Interpretation standpoint, and we do not differentiate ourselves from fan fiction authors, as well as digital, sketch, paint, acoustic, and/or any other artists inspired by Tolkien's awesome world. We desire to make paintings such as those of John Howe, Alan Lee, and Ted Nasmith, but in 3d, and if that is a violation of copyright laws, and we cannot share these files, we are terribly sorry. Maybe our art will be available for public display and use one day, but until that day comes, you will have to settle for Screenshots, save only that those also break any copyright laws. Again, we are 3d artists."
Dúnedain
The Dúnedain are decedance of the ancient Numenorians. They are a forgotten people and close kindred of the Gondorians. Playing as a Dúnedain, you will start in Bree and fulfill the role of Aragorn in the epic Lord of the Rings.
Gondorain
The Gondorians are the Southern kindred of the Dúnedain. They still have an astablished kingdom, but it is under siege and constant war from the devices of Sauron. Playing as a Gondorian, you will start in Minas Tirith, as a soldier, and you will run through a whole new storyline in a much more open ended fashion. The story line for the Gondorian is a surprise! wink.gif
Rohirrim
The Rohirrim were once northmen from the northern realms around Mirkwood, but after Gondor was assailed beyond hope, they sent north to Eorl, leader of the Northmen for aid, and he came south in force to rout the enemies of the South-kingdom. As reward, Steward Cirion granted him and his people the land of Calenardhon(Rohan) to dwell in. Playing as a Rohirrim, you start in Edoras, and play through an all new story as a soldier defending his land, and finding revenge for his slain father.
Noldor
The Noldor have an ancient history that stretches beyond the first age. They came from the sacred land of Aman, the Undying Land. Playing as a Noldorian High Elf, you start in Rivendell, and you play the role of Glorfindale in an open ended adventure.
Sindar
Not much has been developed on the Sindar yet, but they may start in Lothlórien, or they may start in Mirkwood, or it may depend on Gender.
Moriquendi
The Moriquendi are the Dark Elves, for they never saw the lands of Aman, or it's light from it's wondrous two trees. Playing as a Moriquendi, you will start in Lothlórien as a soldier. The land has seen many orc patrols coming from the north, back and forth from the black chasm Moria. The lady of Light has decided that forest of Lorien can no longer tolerate it's boundaries being decimated by the orc invasion, and it's up to you to preserve Lórien's life, and unravel a great new quest that invokes mystery, and deceit.
Dwarves
The Dwarves are made of stone, molded by the hands of their maker Aulë. The dwarves have not been fully developed yet, but we are almost certain they will start in Ered Luin.
Hobbits
Hobbits are the folk of pure imagination from Tolkien. They possess a great deal of spirit for their small size, and are great at sneaking! Playing as the hobbit, you will go through Frodo's journey as the ring bearer.
Uruk-Hai
As a Uruk, you will start in Isengard, we will give more information later.
Wraith
As a Ringwriath, you will start in Minas Morgul, as it being your domain, as well as starting with a very nasty mount with wings. You will be very powerfull for a starting character, and that is why the game will be tremendously hard for the wraith race. You will start on horse, with a semi-linear, semi-open-ended gameplay. You will begin by hunting down the so called "hobbit" with you're master's ring.
Haradrim
No data yet.
Easterling
No data yet.

Now that we've finished both the North and East Farthings of the Shire we will move on to the South and West Farthings of the Shire. It will only be a matter of time before the compleation of the West and South Farthing with full interiors for every hobbit hole. Then we'll release yet again, another beta based in the Shire. This beta will be much different though. Instead of taking a hobbit hole from Chorrol to Middle-earth, you will actually start in Bag End if you choose to start a new game as a hobbit. The world of Tamriel and Middle-earth will be severed forever and there will be no traveling between them. The next beta will feature a nice little treasure hunt quest that I hope you all will enjoy. We also hope to have the Great East Road from the Grey Havens all the way to Troll Shaws finished and fully detailed. If we have time we may also add the Ruins of Fornost, Weathertop, and Hill Trolls (a new creature) to the next beta. Whatever happens though, the next beta is sure to raise the bar and bring a great amount of enjoyment to your computer.
You need to have Flash and Javascript running in your browser to see this player.

This is a nice little update for the MERP Beta v4.1.3 that fixes various bugs and adds a nice little hobbit hole for your liking. It comes with 8 new...
You will need this for the beta to work. Download this as well. Patches a major bug that allows the beta to actually work.
This is our first beta on the new height map. Sill a lot of work to be done. Hope you all enjoy it :)

We will not abandon this mod! I actually plan to continue to expand it for years and years to come. We will continue to release updated content so that you guys don't have to wait for a "final" release that is likely to never come (since I will always find one more thing to make the mod better). New books with be added to the game, already tens of nearly forty books have been made for Moria alone. We plan to make a vast library for Rivendell as well. I have also written some hobbit fables for homes in the Shire. We will have a ton of good books to read, and good quests to play, many times the two will be woven together. And unlike Oblivion, some books will have a vital purpose. Spell in Oblivion could be bought from any lvl 10 mage. In MERP this will not be so. Enchantment on items such as elven blade, cloaks, armors, etc will one manner of magic, but the more "powerful" spells will be hard labors to gain. Books will teach you these, but you will have to take the books to those that know how to read them before you can unlock their magic. Further more, you have to be capable of "understanding", there fore, if by change (which you probably wont) you are level 1 and come across an incredibly old and rare book of lost lore and magic, you will not be able to use it's full or even partial potential. To cast magics as powerful as Gandalf in the battle against the Balrog, expect to be at least lvl 65 with a lot of spell points and lore already learned. Further more, such magics will be very draining. The most powerful magics will drain all your magic, and even your health! As Gandalf said when he put a block spell on the door in Moria to keep the Balrog from passing, "It used much power, and it almost broke me!" Anyway, that's a mouthful to digest, so I'll leave it at that. :)
WHATEVER YOU DO, DONT ABANDON THIS MOD!!!
anyways what kind of books are you adding to this mod. you cant keep the oblivion books it doesnt work with the lore, i recomend Bilbo's book "There and Back Again". that would be awsome.
COOL!:P
Rivendell updates are coming soon! :)
oke great keep the good work going i love this mod=D
Aye, I will be uploading an update that contains the patch and the latest updated work, and with it will come a readme and only one set of data files with no broken data. The forgetfulness of an old wizard is my greatest advisory. I forgot several things when I uploaded the mod, but alas, if you show persistence and use the latter of the set of data files, this mod will work. Sorry for all the confusion, I hope to have it all sorted out soon.
Is it normal that when i downloaded this file i go to data files and activate all the files and when i do that i can pick merp01.esp, merp02.esp, merp04.esp, metcsc1.esp, middle-earth mordor.esm, middle-earth roleplaying_01.esm, middle-earth roleplaying_02.esm and mordor01.esp and when i activate all of them i click on play but the game will start and stop so i looked what file was wrong so i discoverd that merp02 and merp03 and metcsc1 are the broken files or something so when i activate the ones that are working i can pick some special lotr races bur merp02 is for the hobbit holes so i think that it also is for the hobbit hole thats lead me to middle earth so could you maybe place a movie or make 1 and place it how i and other people need to instal this exactly plz
do i have to quit the master file to use this?
Can anybody who uses this mode explain me how to install it? because i belive I installed correctly but there's no hobbit hole where there should be.
Aye, the prison guards won't come until the dunmer across the cell starts taunting you, so don't start a new game. I have no idea why the hobbit hole isn't there other than perhaps that you installed it incorrectly. It's worked for several other people. The hobbit house does not have an exit ehh? I think I know why, I'll fix it.
Thanks for the nice comments and bug reports.
