Universe At War: Freespace will attempt to bring the Freespace 2 universe to Sins of a Solar Empire. Players will be able to control Terran, Vasudan, and Shivan vessels, with almost every original ship from Freespace 2, plus more.

Finals are coming are coming up, and I have some other obligations that take up most of my time. I did have a scare though when I reformatted and did a fresh install over break though. I thought I had lost all my mod files, but I'd made so many backups that they were saved. I have way too many useless files floating around... Anyways, don't expect another update until maybe next month when finals are done and I have some more time(hopefully) to work on this. Plus, if anyone would like to jump on board, I could use the help.

Sorry for the delay. I'm having problems orienting the ships in XSI Mod Tool and getting them textured correctly. It seems to be a bit unstable too... I'm looking into the SCP models right now. I could use them for the capital ships. The only problem with the capital ships (not the fighters and not just the SCP models) is that they often have many textures. In UAW, I'm pretty sure you could only have one texture map per model, and in Sins, I know you can have more than one, but is there a limit? I really don't want to have to remap and reapply textures for every ship. Oh, and no, I do not have a website.
Is there a website for this? I would love to help out, but I'm not very skilled in much, heh. And it's the summer so I have plenty of time.
I'm guessing that porting over some of the SCP's hi-poly versions of various ships would be out of the question? I mean, fighters are out obviously, but even the LOD2 of the hi-poly Orion would be light-years ahead of the stock FS2 Orion you seem to be using.
I'd like to see this and the FreeSpace mod for Empire at War. I indescribibly love FreeSpace and anything FreeSpace related I'll constantly look at or forward to!
i was interested in making a freespace mod for EAW back when people first started playing around with the assets, I only got the galactic map to look like the freespace node map though. I replaced all the planet models with green grid spheres, looked almost exactly like the mission briefings in freespace 2. However i'm not much of a coder so i couldn't figure out how to make them red for enemy or yellow for neutral if that was even possible.
I've never played sins of a solar empire but ill keep an eye on this mod.
I might consider switching engines, but I like the Alamo engine. It would have been so much simpler to get this into SWEAW, but it doesn't support beams. I'm going to wait until the mod tools are released to see what can be done, if anything. Probably the most challenging problem would be the space issue. Assuming they left most of the code from SWEAW, it should work. If I can't get what I want in UAW, then I will choose a different engine. I will look into Sins of a Solar Empire. I've never played it before, so I'll have to try it out. It looks good though.
In fact EAW (or at lest FOC) can handle beams. In one of the mods, there is an LAAT gunship, and it has two beam cannons. So this problem can be solved.
However, if I were you I would make the mod for Sins of a Solar Empire. That game supports REALLY big battles.
Yes, but it's not technically a beam, it's just a bunch of lasers that are fired very rapidly. When you put something like that on a big ship in space, let's just say it doesn't look good. Plus it gets difficult to add more than one, and the list goes on. Believe me, I've tried all the options for EAW. I guess it couldn't hurt to switch. I'll start trying to figure out XSI Mod Tool...
Yeah a guy named Rallis is looking for a team for a FS2 mod for it already. You should sign up for the forums whenever you get a chance. A really big community.
sins really is a fantastic engine and I know people would like this
