Time for another update for Dune: Arrakian Wars. This time we focus on the Harkonnen Devastator. For some people will come a big suprise now, because our design was based on the Emperor model for a long time. However, recently we decided that the Devastator should not be a mech like in Emperor, but a tank like in Dune II. The model is already finished, but the texture is still work in progress.

Devastator

Like its predecessors it has nuclear powered engine - if the tank is on the verge of destruction the reactor will overload, resulting in a devastating nuclear explosion. In accordance to Harkonnen war doctrine, this can also be manually triggered by a specialpower. The armament of the Devastator is also unqiue. At first, the Devastator is armed with a Dual-Plasma-Cannon and a Missile-Launcher. After reaching the Veteran Status, a heavy MG is added to the chassis, and reaching the Elite status activates the 2 side mounted Flamethrowers. When reaching the Heroic Level, another specialpower is avaible.

Also there is a design change at the Ordos units. As an experiment the model of the Lasertank was overworked and will function as the template for this new design. Based on this, the model of the Cobra was created. The Cobra must be deployed to serve its role as an artillery, but while undeployed it fills the role of a heavy tank. The Models are finished and just waiting for a texture. The present models of the APC and the Deviator will be redone once the remaining Ordos vehicles have been modeled.

As little extra we show you our new Formation Preview. We decided not to stick with the Formation Preview of TW but to use another technique. The result can be seen on the following picture.

What I'm looking and hoping to see is proof of Sand worm inclusion and the various freemen units. has annyone addressed the programing for that yet or is it being saved for last?

Really nice work, looking forward to see the final version.
And also I have some questions and maby sugestions.
1. Is the Ordos Deviator model finished, as its present in gallery, because this one looks a bit symetric (In Emperor it had some kind of attachment on its right side)
2. Not really a question, but a sugestion about Devastator model
Some time ago i saw some model, that from mine point of view fits better as a devastator

Maby you could think about doing something like this one

I know the Emperor Deviator had it's cockpit attached to the right side, but I think this design is horrible and just fails. This is why I centered the cockpit in the DAW Design.

Ok thanx for the quick answers:))
Im not telling that Deviator design in DAW is bad, but from mine point of view it looks little bit similar to Ordos APC. Another thing from Emperor Deviator was its turret. It was very scpectacular, some minour changes in DAW turret design coud be a good idea.
Coud you in next news update post some ingame pictures with Ordos and Harkonnen units (when I'm waching Hark Flame Tank and Ordos Deviator, last one looks a bit splatted/flat, but maby its just imaginatin and in game everything looks fine)
And whats the main concept of design for Atreides units, will it be based on mech tech, or you planning to invent something new for the noble atreides house?

P.S. I'm Ukrainian and sometimes my English could be not verry perfect:))

atreides will probably be mech based like in emperor. we don't have any plans for changing this.

1. afaik shmafoozius said that the model is finished, for now. he will overdo all ordos models however, if all a done.
2. devastator model will not change. your suggestion looke not that bad, but is imo not a good style for harkonnen units. the model will stay. the textur of the devastator will be finished in some time (yes it's NOT final!)
