There are some things I spend a lot of time taking to finish, either due to a lack of interest or just generally forgetting about it. Far Cry 2 is one of those things.
I started playing Far Cry 2 when it was new, but I was immediately turned off by how unlike Far Cry 1 it was. Despite the massive sandbox freedom of movement was extremely limited, enemies lacked variation (only mercs, no choppers or monsters?) and it was extremely repetitive.
The repetitiveness of the game is frustratingly high - you'll often find yourself going past the exact same points, fighting off the exact same respawned enemies. Expect to do this 10 or 20 times at least for any given route. It doesn't help that the game nearly always bottlenecks into going a certain way, which is not what a Far Cry game should be about.
Basically if you've played one FC2 mission, you've played them all - for that reason I only ever played the game one mission at a time. This is why it took me so long to complete the game. It was kind of a slap in the face for all those years of playing only to get one cheap cutscene at the end of the game: a couple of NPCs walk left to right, that's it.
Despite these criticisms I'm not going to say FC2 is a bad game, but it's certainly not worth going out of your way to get nor is it particularly memorable. Crysis or Far Cry 1 are still the superior alternatives.

This is the ModDB group for the Half-Life Creations website! Half-Life Creations was conceived in 2006 then created in 2007 by Thomas "Editor321" and...
This group is destined to bring old Half Life mods back to life, by bringing new models, new weapons, new maps or even new custom code.
Group page for Napalm Team dev members :] This team are responsible for Heart of Evil Napalm Edition, as well as an unannounced future mod.
The team responsible for the creation of the enhancement project for Blue Shift. We are also extremely nerdy, so watch the fuck out.
You can't take any criticism honestly, however you go out and criticise everyone who's not as "good" as you are, at least how good you imagine yourself to be. The truth is that you deserve a lot of criticism, because you're full of **** and you act like a whiny little brat and you spit the dummy whenever someone dares criticise "your" work. If you can't stand criticism, don't come on the internet.
Fail karma troll is fail. Even the fact that you give a damn about karma shows how much you fail.
The fact that you made a comment about being "karma trolled" proves that you give a damn about karna, and thus proves that you are a moron.
There's two spherical, fleshy objects in your head, their outwards facing side has a lens wich lets light in to reach the photoreceptors. These photoreceptors send neural signals back to the brain, for those who have one. This organ is called the eye, and you use it to notice stuff.
Oh, and it's "karma", not "karna". See? Eyes are VERY useful in everyday life.
Looks like someone found out what wikipedia is, but read through the whole article next time instead of reading the first sentence.
Maybe you should learn how to punctuate or apply grammar before you criticise the English of other people.
"You use your eyes to notice stuff". I'd always thought that eyes are means for understanding and navigating the environment, obviously your method should be taught in schools.
Unlike you, I don't need Wikipedia to get more complex sentences formed. And obviously, noticing means to notice anything from an object to a word, or even the smallest thing in your vision, so you can use it to navigate and understand the environment.
Anyway, if this is the best you can come up with, I'm done. I don't like wasting my time with butthurt fail trolls who can only come up with lame insults, because unlike you I have better stuff to do.
"I don't need Wikipedia to get more complex sentences formed"
lol, that might be the worst example of written English I've ever seen.
"unlike you I have better stuff to do"
EPIC RAGE DETECTED!
i m a bit late but anyway nice farcry2 review. i liked the part about killing people to stop the killing of people because it is bad. but fun.
Thanks! If I had more time I would probably write more reviews - the thing is, it's pretty hard to write them around the same time as paid reviewers (who will get a copy of the game well in advance of anyone else).
