I live in Nijmegen, developing games is my hobby. Responses are very much appreciated, but I tend to forget to look on this page. To make sure I see your message, use the personal messaging system, or olvandgame [at] gmail.com
I indeed plan to ask money for this one day (and long before it's finished), but not before I succeed in making people play more than just an hour or two. That is, most people who play now play for a few days, and then leave it. Once I succeed in creating something people will come back to, I think the game is ready for sale.
Yes. There will be large animals, Alots, which you'll be able to tame and ride. There will be much more randomly generated animals, but I'm not sure whether you will be able to catch and tame them yet.
That's hard to say, as I invite new players to test new updates... and new updates are released when they are done. Sorry to keep you waiting so long, I'm working as fast as I can.
Hi Gandalf, that is because you can't. The game is currently in a closed pre-alpha testing phase. You can sign up for an invite on the website (olvand.com). If you own a game review website, you might also want to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for your interest!
Thanks, both of you :).
Thank you for interest! You can sign up for a free key at olvand.com. I have to add that the waiting list is quite long at the moment, but I'm doing everything I can to make it shorter.
I'm not sure yet. I invite a new group every time a new update is released, and I don't know when the next update will be finished.
When you start it with Desura, Desura should notify you there's a patch available.
That's good to hear :). You can request an invite for one of the next playtester groups on olvand.com .
Depends on what you mean by a lot :). I've got over 300 names right now, but that number will get smaller and smaller as I increase the tester group size.
Yes, Desura/IndieDB says so, but it is actually in a closed pre-alpha testing phase. You can sign up to be a tester on olvand.com.
Pubs will be blueprints (like all houses), roads can be crafted directly from softstone :)
Both jukeboxes (that's what you mean, right?) and darts are wonderful ideas, although if I include something like darts, I'll probably make it a little different from the real game - I want all the minigames to be unique.
For the spawn places - I have some special ideas for that, but more about that later :).
Indiedb.com This will help you :). If you have more questions like this, there are many helpful people on the forums!
Haha nice :)
Yes, finally! Great job!
To make the graphics, you mean? GIMP, mostly.
Yeah, these achievements are almost impossible to get at the moment, I may remove them someday. I'd say your best chance is inviting friends.
Yes, eventually, but I have no idea when that will be.
About the persistent characters: hmmm, that would have quite a lot of implications for how you play the game, so I need to give it some thought. Interesting, though.
Good to see I can even create the impression I've got progress when I haven't touched the project for a whole week :P. And congrats Cheesetale, you deserve it :).
By signing up for an invite on olvand.com. I invite new players in groups, to make sure the servers (which are run by volunteers) don't melt.
Thank you for your suggestion, but I have to admit I'm not sure if I understand it correctly; does 'mayoral changes' mean adding mayors of towns to the game? At the moment being a mayor is nothing more than being able to change the laws for towns you founded. How would that relate to IRC?
I think you might be right that giving the portal a bigger territory keeps the problem away longer, so I'm going to follow your advice if giving portals their own territory is really needed.
About the limited distance: enormous cities is not something I necessarily want to avoid, as long as I can make cities look varied. I am actually afraid the other thing will happen: 300 cities on every server with only 2-3 houses. But we'll see :)
Thanks for your comments, very interesting!
Here: Indiedb.com . Sorry, my link pointed to the wrong place, I've fixed it now.
Yes, the Pokemon series has been the main inspiration for the art. :)
Thanks for your interest! Unfortunately, if I would say here that I put you in the next tester group, there are dozens of people who would want the same. I'm very sorry :(.
