0.6 has a completely different codebase from 0.5 and is re-written from scratch.
I'm working on FragOut? Crap, I'd better do something else DuckSauce will kick my ***!
LOL! Sorry man :D To make it very clear:
JAILBREAK IS MOVING TO 0.6 AND IT'S GONNA RAWK!
Nope, I'm afraid not. 0.5 will never be released... because we're moving straight to 0.6!
The next release will be entirely on the Orange Box Engine, and is a completely code-rewrite to ensure it's as tight as possible. We're already around a 1/3rd of the way through, and it wont take much longer! So keep your eyes peeled for more news!
That's achieved using After Effects, basically you duplicate the video clip you want the lighting effect on, so it's layered ontop of each other. Then you change the blending mode to screen, add a gaussian blur (any amount depending on how intense you want it), and change the opacity to affect how much of the effect you want seen. So...
Blending Mode: Screen
Guassian Blur: 3
I'm personally really enjoying these updates. It's far more interesting to me to see the detail of the work going into the next update rather than just "WHOA LOOK AT THE SHINY!!".
Sorry guys, you need to press SHIFT-F2 together. Updated the tutorial to reflect this.
Any Valve game! Valve changed it so you can run Orange Box mods without owning an Orange Box game a while back.
*sigh* FilePlanet Exclusive :(
Looking forward to this, looks fantastic and should be a refreshing change of pace/gameplay, but... the FP Exclusive route? Big shame.
Just wanted to make it clear that Mike Gomersall is the musician behind this track :D
Absolute. *******. Genius.
Sorry to hear that man! Did you find the spinup time too quick? Or the power of the chaingun itself?
Fantastic! I've had Deus Ex installed for months in preparation for this!
BOOMBOOMBOOM! Most satisfying weapon we've put in yet!
Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this article! Short, sweet, to the point and very fun too! And I think it IS something that needs to be said from time to time. Too many startup teams sadly waste people's time by setting expectations and aims way too high, and expecting/demanding other people do the real work.
An article like this is a great, fun way of saying "maybe, you should make a whole bunch of stuff first, and the karmic reward of doing this will be that a few GREAT team members will join your mod and make it awesome!"
It was around 4 weeks ago now I think! Thanks for the comments guys, thoroughly enjoyable banter once again!
Haha! GROUP HUG!!
You forgot yourself buddy! I'll add ya!
Ryan Anderson AKA Stenchy: The scribe behind the words of ModDB, eloquently taking us upon finely worded journeys into the deepest and darkest realms of modding. Stenchy is the man who gets the job done, keeps the shizzle together, and cracks the whip when Henley starts lagging behind on them sexy videos! Together, both he and Dave sprinkle the awesome that is... ModDB.
Hehe! Seriously though, great job guys, and hope ya feel better soon Ryan!
Fantastic! Well done to the Mount and Blade team! Well deserved!
Now THAT'S the sexy lighting I was talking about! Good job Alt :D
Congrats guys, when do we get to preorder? :D
Gah! This ones a toss up between Infinity: Quest for Earth and Zeno Clash for me... The former because I want to believe that what they set out to do is actually possible, and fun, and the latter because the art direction is simply phenomenal, like a cross between Dark Crystal and The Labyrinth with the charm and soul of both.
Yeah big up congrats guys! Totally 100% deserving too :D
Sweet! I can't wait :D
Wait for the release of 0.5 buddy... Then there'll be plenty! Just to be clear, Dinosaurs and Robots are NOT in the current release... they are in the NEXT release.
Well, firstly I used the steps in the tutorial I just posted on the front page (http://www.moddb.com/mods/jailbreak/tutorials/demo-smoother-tutorial-for-sexy-trailers). Then I edited the footage I recorded using Adobe After Effects CS3. :D
Oh awesome, I didn't know that! Thanks man, that's a very useful tip... just looked it up and it's apparently "sv_specnoclip". Updated the tutorial!
Thanks guys! I hope that this will enable others to make some lovely trailers for your own mods or just mods you like to play. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them here, and likewise, if you do make something, post it, as I'd love to see it!
You have to browse to the Store Page to get it: Store.steampowered.com
Just clicky, "Play Game" to start downloading.
Sadly, due to a few whingy types who don't like free games "cluttering up" their games list, Valve withdrew all the Source Mods from peoples Uninstalled foldout tab, so now the Source mods can only be found in the Mods section of the store.
Wooo! God I love this mod, it's by far and away one of the best out there. Been playing all evening, and it's such a rush cutting engines on a pursuing fighter, spinning around on a penny and seeing that moment of "wtf? how did he do that?!!" as you plow into them with dual cannons roaring. Love the new game modes too, adds some great variety to the server rotation.
But the best bit is how friendly everyone's being, there's no rude players (that I've seen), everyone is decent and helpful and the devs are great fun to play against. Can't wait to join you guys on the servers, especially if I get to kill Dave :D
Absolutely, balls out, fantastic guys :D
Looks good man, and glad you're finding good uses for our materials etc :D
Thanks for inviting us onto the show guys, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Twas a great and very funny evening :D
Four years and six releases later... I did!
Aye, I'm working on the GraviNULL team, and the Jailbreak team as a whole is more than happy for these guys to use all of our art assets in anyway they see fit, because this mod is AWESOME!
Looking forward to tonight!
You misspelt the map name too, should be gn_church ;D
Oh no! SneakySauce has deployed public humiliation tactic! Wills will fix pictures immediately! On another note, this is one absolutely freakin' incredible mod, and the sheer speed at which these guys are putting it together is completely unprecedented.
If anybody has a server they'd like to setup as a Jailbreak Server before release, feel free to contact me via PM on ModDB, and I'll help out however I can.
Yay! It's Working now! The file length was too short when I first uploaded it! Sorry to the people who posted, but I had to delete the file, which meant losing your comments too!
Thanks buddy! We've been working hard at making each of them very unique in both design and the way they're used for this version. No two weapons play the same.
It's a VPK file, inside a ZIP file. I zipped it up to reduce the download size by over two thirds :D
We like colour :D
Aye, it really does! You guys totally deserve it. Downloading now :D
Woo! Go SPAS12! Been following this over at lopers, downloading now.
Don't worry, it does. It just has recoil so the view point ended up out of line.
Sex-tastic Alt babeh!
Ooh likin' the new red team skin!
This mod gets better and better! You guys are geniuses! A sail boat grenade... ahaha!!
Wow! This is looking great guys! It's got surprisingly tactical gameplay, never realised it would be like that, but I guess you do have to think about the type of grenade, where best to throw it, and where your opponent is going to be in order to achieve the kill. Good job!
Absolutely awesome looking... I'm getting pretty excited for this now, the art style and gameplay seem really solid.
Bizarrely, I'd love to see die-cast miniature models of these, like a special edition release!
Bout darn time I reinstalled Fallout 2! Most of the latter part of my school years were spent playing both FO1 and 2... Good times!
"It's one that I'm ashamed to say I've never experienced firsthand." Shocking. Next you'll be saying you've never played System Shock 1 and 2! Glad you're catching up now :D
ROFL! That's awesome :D Love the carressing, so tender!
This is looking great guys! I'm so pleased you've come so far with it :D I can't wait to get testing it, and can't wait for the next release!
Schweet! I'm really looking forward to this mod, and I think you guys are doing an awesome and really fast job of putting it together :D Well done!
Shake that melon baby!
Awesome stuff! I'll see if I can setup a server today :)
Haha! Melon Grenade! I'm loving the tone of this mod :D Good work guys, keep it up!
I'm afraid not buddy, you'll need to download both :D
Yeah!! Awesome stuff :D Downloading now!
Just followed your profile link on the ES post-mortem article, to this, absolutely fantastically well-written article! Really enjoyed it man, you make a very good point about Alyx acting as a kind of counter-point to Gordon/The Players own view, she allows the player to disagree, agree, or simply follow her orders, negating the whole aspect of confusion or disillusion present in other games without such a character. I'd never thought of that aspect before, and it was really interesting to learn your thoughts on it. Great article!
Very interesting post-mortem. I had no idea you guys had the opportunity to visit Valve and demo ES to the guys there. It's really interesting reading all the parts about managing/juggling the community, the beta testers and the team, something we've also been learning as time has gone by. Really interested read, well written too. I'm also pleased you're going in a more intuitive direction in the future... Can't wait for ES 4.0!
Not having a go at you buddy, but it does frustrate me when people say "doesn't look like it was made on the Source engine", as if the Source Engine is some piece of second rate junk. Maps like this and mods like Eternal Silence, show off exactly what the Source engine is capable of, and how versatile it is in comparison with other engines. Great map by the way!
I'll sort that out :D
Just to clarify what I was saying: We have been inspired by many other games in developing Jailbreak, theres no issue there, we've looked at what works and good ways of rewarding the players and used those concepts in our own way.
Also, I'm unsure whether you're criticising the perks system in your second paragraph for allowing overpowered players or simply stating exactly what the perks system does. As all the things you mentioned are not possible, for reasons of balance.
... There's nothing that's particularly original about the Perks system we're implementing, it's been around for years, with Fallout being the one that inspired us (our coder is called Dogmeat, that should tell you something). We're not attempting to do anything hugely original here, just trying to do something fun and cool :)
Oh and I've not played COD4, neither has anyone on the team... we're not fans of realistic military shooters, we like daft crazy games with sci-fi guns and perks!
And you definately wanna be careful using the M4A1 Pulse Rifle concept... Fox are evil.
Yeah definately drop the polycount down... 2k is best for average comps.
Awesome model by the way, but yeah way to high for Source.
And thanks Undertone, I equally love your work on Firearms!
There are now three dedicated servers, with most playing taking place around 9pm UK time... most nights the servers fill to capacity!
