Thanks man! I've just noticed an error in the guide though. It states that you should use the directory Jailbreak-dev. Don't. Use the directory Jailbreak. Apologies, I wrote this whilst we were still developing the mod!
Hmm... Yeah let know how it goes, and I'll try to help out.
Hi Awesome Ninja,
Can you give me some more details on how you've got your server setup? Is it running SRCDS from a command line, or are you using the Source Dedicated Server from within Steam?
If you're using SRCDS from a command line, have you downloaded the Orange Box base using SRCDS? If so, have you moved the folder HL2, into the root directory of orangebox? So it's next to Jailbreak? This is a very important step.
Other things to check are the existance of the Valve.rc file inside the CFG folder.
Yes you can :)
Wow! Eulogy from Planet Half-Life just gifted Killing Floor to me! Haha! You're a legend man!
Gah! I'm jealous! Great game, but I missed the deal when it was cheap over Christmas after getting delayed on the way back from work :(
Haha! So do I! If anyone fancies buying me Killing Floor then feel free! :D
Galatea was definately in the running (along with a few others) and was a very creative and clever entry, but in the end we decided to go with Harlie. No need for bitterness buddy, it was a fun competition! :D
Haha! We had a lot of fun running it too! Really enjoyed putting the two videos together... although I can NEVER listen to Avril Lavigne again. I must've listened to that one minute segment about 400 times in the last two days.
Hehe! Just posted the news and it hasn't been authed yet, so yeah, don't post here :D
Two years ago?! Thanks ZPS, now I feel really old! Haha!
Working on it! Don't expect it for this version though :)
Once you've learned some manners, maybe we will ;)
Nope, no changes to weapons or sounds etc. Just a straight forward Survival map to begin with, and then a few months down the line, the full five map campaign!
Yep! It's a straightforward Survival map, which is also going to form the mid-point finale of a five map campaign. I've currently completed three of the five maps, and am working on the last two! I've been trying to stick to the style and appearance of the standard L4D maps, to ensure consistency, whilst really focusing on the gameplay and not letting players get lost.
Haha! Poor Nauz!
That's an engine crash, nothing to do with FoF.
So you're not after opinions on the subject? Just people that agree with you? Sorry, my mistake...
Totally agree, this has got really old now, and very boring to hear about.
I'll definately be inviting you back for a preview of 0.6 INtense :D Already looking forward to it!
Yeah, we've actually made them already, but the coder hasn't got round to sticking them back in yet. :D
LOL! Yes, players getting kicked in the *** if they stand behind too long would be genius :D
Haha! Nice! You guys deserve to be on Steam, hope you get the opportunity! So are the horses animated? And as horrible as this sounds, can they become collateral damage?
*sigh* FilePlanet Exclusive :(
Looking forward to this, looks fantastic and should be a refreshing change of pace/gameplay, but... the FP Exclusive route? Big shame.
Just wanted to make it clear that Mike Gomersall is the musician behind this track :D
You guys are insane... I LOVE IT! Man, that's gonna be quite tactical. Escaping manuevres, getting away from the Holy Hand Grenade, sneak aerial bombings! LOL! Cant wait!
Thaaaaat's actually a bug! The indicator is actually for when the British Bulldog Execution is taking place, and it counts down how many players you need to kill in order to get bonus points for a "successful execution". Unfortunately, if the previous map ends on a BBD execution, the players remaining tab carries over to the next map in rotation! It'll be fixed before the release!
Yep, I second that: Fortress Forever, and Eternal Silence!
Hehe :D If Jahhur is playing then the MidEast Crisis/Iron Grip team are screwed! This sounds like great fun though, I'll be looking forward to this immensely. I've been wanting to get some dev vs. dev matches going but trying to pin other dev teams down was never easy! Good job!
Haha! That's cool... Hardcore indeed! Nice video once again Henley! :D
Jesus. Give him a break, it's a one man mod for christ sakes... God I hate the attitude of some people. I'll see if I can setup a little server later tonight for this once we finish beta testing JB! This is an awesome concept, and one I've wanted to see on Source for a long time :D
Haha! This sounds great fun :D Downloading now!
Really sorry buddy... I honestly thought Openday was finished... It's VERY finely tuned as it is, and is one of the best maps gameplay wise, it's going down really well on the server so far. When Map Pack #2 is released, I'll make sure to include the updated Openday.
Man, I have to buy UT2004 for some Killing Floor action! Perfect Stride Continuum looks hella fun too, loving the retro style... I'm off to download!
Huh? Not supporting mods as much of late? ModDB IS doing more than ever! Jailbreak has had more support from ModDB than all of the other news sites combined (except Interlopers, who've also been brill!). ModDB TV, the Modcast, features, previews, reviews, interviews, all with the developers of various mods!
Aye, firstly sky_camera needs to be placed at the origin of the map, and copy/pasted with the rest of the reference geometry so that both sky_camera's have matching positions relative to the map.
Secondly, the skybox needs to be 1/16th the size of the original room, which can be done by going to Tools; Transform, selecting scale and typing .0625 in the X, Y and Z boxes. You then can place geometry, displacements and skybox ready models into the skybox, all at 1/16th the original size.
These are then resized up to the correct size by the engine when you play the map. If you use displacements in the map though (like de_dust), then make sure you scale the textures down to around 0.05, otherwise they will look huge and ugly.
Nicely laid out and written tutorial, but you've really missed the whole idea of 3D skyboxes, and what makes them awesome.
Seconded. Very creative work there, and the skin looks supreme.
Each map in Jailbreak takes place in different periods of time and space! Some maps are set in space, some underwater, some in medieval times!
Because I cocked up! As a result, we had to Pakrat everything into our BSP, hence the models and textures being seperately released :D Sorry!
Yeah just so everyone knows... this is a review of Jailbreak 0.3.1 - NOT Jailbreak 0.4! :D
Sorry that ya think that buddy! Hopefully you'll download and play regardless :D Jailbreak is a lot of fun! Hope to see ya on the servers!
Just wanted to say that it was so much fun doing this interview! Me, Dogmeat, Henley and Stenchy had such a laugh recording it! Was dead funny, and blighted with technical errors and mistakes on my behalf, which incredibly they've managed to cover up completely so props to him for being a legend! Thanks for this guys!
Exactly :D Glad you got it!
lol PunK_Killer :) You're probably playing 0.3.1, everyone gets together on Saturday nights to play from 7:30 GMT... so come along then and join the fun, at least one server fills to max and the others get some good games too.
Little and strange maps though? Sorry if you didn't like them!
Wow. News got held back so long, this got dumped to the bottom of the second page :( Sucks. Guess there was a good reason.
Yeah might wanna watch that, its a nerf gun design...
"And thanks Undertone, I equally love your work on Firearms!" That was meant to be "we". lol
Indeed, we had several servers going yesterday, some with good pings, some with bad, two dedicated, but more than 6 players and they went down. Frustrating, but we hope as we release further versions and the popularity (hopefully) increases, people will be generous to us and send some more dedicated servers our way.
hehe :) Well, you have a point... We're starting the countdown now, as we are VERY close to releasing, but we've got some small elements to integrate still which could force the release to be up to two weeks later than we hope. We don't want to start an official countdown, then disappoint anyone by saying "sorry, two weeks longer!". Put it this way... We've got 8 maps to show off, and we may not show them all.
Thanks guys! We're producing two video trailers at the moment and will be adding them to the profile as soon as they are ready!
I an 100% on board with the release early and often process. I'm one of the developers for Jailbreak: Source (www.jailbreaksource.com), we started developing the mod 9 months ago, with just two of us, and are about to release our fourth version, still keeping to a small development team (4 now).
Each version we've released, we've doubled our player base, and assembled a community of amazingly friendly and helpful people.
The first version we released consisted of two maps, and the core gameplay. The second, four maps, tweaked core-gameplay, and two new weapons. The third, highly tweaked gameplay and a few new features. The fourth will have all new weapons (17 in total), four new maps, a new game mode, and LOADS of new features.
We really hope that the trend continues this time round, and again we double our player base.
And you definately wanna be careful using the M4A1 Pulse Rifle concept... Fox are evil.
Count me in too! Would love to test out the new site!
"We have a lot more to show in the coming weeks/months so stay tuned because we have some great stuff on the way!!"
Indeed we do... we've completely overhauled 0.3.1 almost from scratch with loads of new features and redeveloped old ones, so over the next few weeks we'll be releasing loads of media.
It's a shame about the servers not running 0.3.1 anymore, but then we just have to hope 0.4 has more of an impact!
"From the screen shots, i thought this was a completely different mod."
Good! That's what we're aiming for... to make each map have a completely unique theme and feel!
Nah! Source can easily handle that much brush work without a problem... in fact they could probably detail it more, as long as its optimised well.
Lol Dawg... it's just you that doesn't work! Damn lazy coders :) (I'm kidding you rawk!)
We've organised Game Night now, so that players can guarantee a full server two nights a week!
Game night takes place every Wednesday (from 7pm GMT) and Saturday night (from 9pm GMT). The next game night is on Saturday the 27th June... so come join us! The devs (all three of us!) are nearly always there, so its great opportunity to be involved in the community and find out news about the next release first hand.
You really wanna push that idea dontcha Stubby? :)
Aye, tis the same guy indeed... We poached him off Interlopers after seeing his incredible work :)
To be completely clear: En.wikipedia.org(creek)
Any similarities to Fallout 2 are purely coincidental, and do not represent the views and opinions of... hehe :) You get the picture! Fallout 2 rocks anyhow!
Do a Google image search on System Shock 2... nothing like them. Besides these textures are all custom made by me and our other mapper Izanagi. There's only about 8 HL2 textures used, otherwise, its been Photoshop all the way, and again, nothing like SS2... damn good game that it is.
Well, right now, the plan is dependent on us finding a modeller, which has proven difficult so far! If we can find a modeller, then we're intending to create unique weapons for both sides and not go down the route of MP5, M4, AK47 etc.
We are planning on a kind of Mad Max/Punk theme for the Rebel side, so weapons would be very hand-made looking, strapped together with gaffer tape and wood etc, and quite personalised with spikes, skulls and what not. For the Combine side, we want to create some futuristic style weapons, with chargers, plasma parts, and various visual elements like that.
Yeah definately drop the polycount down... 2k is best for average comps.
Awesome model by the way, but yeah way to high for Source.
Yes we will, again to move away from the HL2 style... so Metropolis will be revised to appear more "Neo-Tokyo" in appearance, whilst Abalos will be revised to look more like a London Underground station. Woodneck and Madesco won't change an awful lot, as I like the look and feel of these two, but there will certainly be some changes.
And thanks Undertone, I equally love your work on Firearms!
There are now three dedicated servers, with most playing taking place around 9pm UK time... most nights the servers fill to capacity!
