Hmmm... turn based then?
EDIT: Anyone know what this song is for in the trailer? I can't find it anywhere...
Just bought and I am loving it! Only 4 episodes though... here's hoping there's more...
You sir, are very much correct. HOWEVER, the core mechanic's of Dom3 is very much the same with Dom4. Though, with Dom4, it's a bit more fine tuned than it's predescesor, thus why everyone is trying out Dom4.
Though, you may just play Dom3 to get your feet wet, and wait until a few patches are down the road, since this game is still a Beta.
Shhh! You'll ruin this special moment for us. BTW.
Congrats on finding the second bug! lol
CONGRATS! You just found the first bug!!! YAY!!! FANFARE!!! YAY!!! lol
Edit: Now that I think about it... this could be an easter egg one day. double lol
I figure this will be fixed after Labor Day, as the staff at Desura just arn't working this weekend. It will probably be ready this Tuesday or wednesday. I'll check back then, but there really isn't anything we can do.
Please be patient, this game is worth the wait. I'm sure it won't be long, and if you think this is bad, you've obviously never used Steam. (which is notorious for launching late.)
In any event, I can wait another day before it get's released. I've got other games to play, as I'm sure we all do.
If you can't wait, however, may I recomend the following games:
Game Dev Tycoon/Steam/$10/Addictive and very fun
Evoland/Steam/fast paced, interesting
Gnomoria/Desura/Very well made, better than most similar games, always updated.
NEO Scavanger/Desura/Post apocoliptic turn based fun.
I'll personally be playing Game Dev, latters.
(Sigh) I'm debating on buying this and playing it while I wait for Proxy's, Pandora, First Contact...
It's similar, but... idk... It just seems like a poor mans First Contact.
I wonder what changed... I don't mean, what changed for gameplay. I mean, after such a long time, I'm wondering why we finally get a Dominions 4 game? I think I can speak for quite a few of us that this was a very pleasant surprise.
I thought that the developer had moved on, and that Dominions 3 was to be the last of it's kind. I was kinda sad, after so many years, to think that this was to be so. So imagine my surprise, and elation, to find out that there is finally going to be a Dominions 4. Not that I'm complaining, I'm not, (in fact I'm very very happy to soon be getting Dominions 4) I'm just wondering, after so many years, what changed?
CANT... BREATHE...!!! HYPER... HYPER... VENTALAT... LATING!!! NEWS... TO AWESOME!!! Seriously, if you can see me right now, I'm crying because I can't believe I'm here at this moment to witness gaming history. I'm just so damn happy.
Damn straight I'm giving this a ten Skippy, and I'll also order it right now.
By the way, trying to update this game is a PAIN, because, for some stupid reason, it won't recognize my serial number... so again, venting my rage in vain. Just pointing out the bang up job Wasteland has done to make this gaming experiance soooo worth while. So, if anyone from Wasteland is reading this. GOOD JOB! (paininthearsepieceof...)
FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX THIS DAMN GAME SO IT WOULD RUN!
- Title Screen Bug Fix
For many of us, our bug was it would give us the title screen but we couldn't go beyond that. It's a resolution screen size that trips many, if not all of Wastlands games, because they don't have the foresight to think anyone would actually have a 1600 x 900 screen resolution or any other wierd or odd configuration. (Godzila forbid they update this game on Desura for that or help us with bug issues here... No, that would be convienient, but I vent my rage in vain.)
Step 1: Find your Desura Folder. (Where ever you installed Desura, it's usually in C:/Program Files. Then find the Common Folder, from there locate your Storm Over the Pacific Folder and go into it.
Step 2: Locate your Settings Document, and double click it. Then Scroll down till you see the [Main] you want what under it, which is the RsolutionX and ResolutionY.
Step 3: Change the Resolution to what your screen is currently using. Since I'm using 1600 x 900 my ResolutionX = 1600 and ResolutionY = 900
To find your screen resolution (If you don't know what it is) Right Click on your main desktop screen (The basic screen with the wallpaper and all those fun icons that go places i.e recycle Bin, Google Chrome ect.) Then after right clicking anywhere on that screen, you want Screen Resolution. From there it will tell you your resolution. Now I hope I helped people who have had trouble with this bug. As I feel I have had this game for far to long and have yet to play it. (Since last year) So now, I shall, for Q/A post under my comment.
Okay, actually I was curious, so I bought the game. It looks like it's pretty straight forward to mod... kinda reminds me of the old school Space Empires modding. Anyone mind if I play around with the notepad settings and stuff? Maybe try and add a race or two?
I'm glad I've got the demo, as it's a tad glitchy. I'm sure this game will be great though, from what I've been able to play, it's pretty fun. I understand that this isn't the finished product though, still, it's a tad difficult to navigate the screens (no little x to exit them from). I'd also like to see some screen resolutions maxed to 1600 x 900 if you can. One last thing on my list, which I just hope you can add mind you. A GUI ship design system where you place the objects on the ship... (kinda like Space Empires if you've ever played that game and not many have...) though that may be too much to expect so I'll settle for what you've got already.
Otherwise, keep up the good work, and I'll buy this game when it's officially out because it shows a ton of potential.
Hookay, not that your advice didn't help, it did, but unfortunately, your wrong. Dominions 3 does not package with a text editor, which apparently, I need to mod it so that I can put specific races in specific places for maps. It does have a map editor, which I saw, but has a general map editor with no advanced commands for maps that have already been saved. (Which, Oeridia.map is)
This is exactly what I'm talking about by the by. There is no 'real' placement, it's still random, and without mods, it's impossible to accomplish such. If illwinter is fealing charitable, maybe we can have that added to Dominions 3. Or even package a text editor with it.
With that said, I did buy the game when it first came out, and got several updates, but nothing like a text editor which was something I needed. I can't say that it isn't packaged with the game now, but if a text editor isn't, than I must say that it should.
Have it, it's nice, but it's no dominions.
Yes, I'm sure since this game was released in 2006, it has a slew of bugs. (Sarcasm) My point remains, there needs to be a Dominions 4 by now. Disagree if you must, but you can only go so far with Dominions 3 until you ask yourself, should there be a new game?
The fact that it COULD in fact be easier to mod, and map edit, is an issue. The fact that the graphics COULD use an upgrade. The fact that we COULD use a few more levels of spells, races, and maybe more depth to lore. Overall, the fact that this game is so popular you have two fan boys going at it arguing at Desura instead of on the forums site might just be a slight indication that this game may just deserve a new sequel.
Yes, I disagre with you, but not on adding new nations, the whole comment I set up was regarding a new game for Dominions, which included adding new races. I have the mods for Dominions 3 for dwarfs, but what if Dominions 4 had a few new races and one of them were Dwarfs.
And yes, I do go to the forums site on occasion, but I usually find a few mods, and some nice maps that I use for the game. As far as getting this map edit information, I thank you. It's still more of a pain to figure this out though, if, say... Illwinter decides to make another Dominions game, maybe when you build a new game, you can pick a place you want your race to start, during the new game creation phase, and just point and click, poof, done, no up, right left down up a,b,a,b just make it easier is all.
Fine, I've tried to do placement 3 ways from friday, I've TRIED looking it up in the mod tools, I've tried looking up in forum sites, I've tried modding the game personally, I even tried looking up instruction manuals, if it really is easy, send me a link, I honestly need help desprately. (spent a several months trying to find something for that actually and I've owned the game for years and couldn't find anything concreate)
By the by, if your just defending mods, thats fine cute, but it's not really IN the actual game for some of the things I've suggested. Which, is in fact, the main issue, we shouldn't have to rely on mods or modders for some of these things in game. You also assume in your comments that I don't use mods, but I do, MYTHOLOGY is my personal favorite. The only reason why I suggested a dwarf race empire is because there is a dwarf in Dominions, (See Ulm Dwarf Blacksmith for reference.)
Oh death, oh death, oh so art unfair, to take away Black Isle, and still leave us Bethesda. (cry)
Serriously, we needs us a Dominions 4 as this game is as old as dirt, but it's still at the top of my all time favorite PC games.
Few things you may need for Dominions 4:
- RACE PLACEMENT!!! That random placement is driving me nuts! If you use a custom map, like Oeridia it really is just a pain. With Random Placement Bandar Log is placed in the caves, in the north lands, in anywhere but the jungle where they should start at. I know Oeridia is a custom map which isn't in vanila Domionions 3, but after 26 restarts, just to get the placement right, I would really like to just PLACE my race on the map instead of having a random generator do it, over and over and over and over and over and over and over...
- Time Travel: If I want an early start race in mid or late, maybe that might be something you could set up?
- Dwarves, just saying, we've got mods for these, but I'm really surprised not to see this in Dominions 3 vanila.
I've played the demo, and I liked what I saw... The only gripe I have is the sprites, I understand the meaning behind it, but graphically, it could be better. Overall, 7/10, not perfect, but not bad.
This game has to have a better average rating of 5.6, it's waaaaay better than that. COME ON PEOPLE, LETS GIVE THIS GAME SOME LOVE!
It would be a great game if it would freaking work! Anyone have any thoughts on getting this game to run? A link to an older version maybe?
