Dudes, new vote?

+1 vote   poll: Your aims in 2012
Wasper May 22 2012, 3:52pm replied:

That's not because of any law. That's because an institution, the GEMA (which represents a lot of artists) wants money for every (music-)video view, I don't know the sum anymore, but it was a few cents (which is quite a lot when you have millions of views). Now Youtube does not want to pay millions of dollars, so they just block the videos in Germany. Though with a proxy you can still watch them :P
Like always, it's just about money. -.-

Personally, I find nvidias normalmap plug-in much better than Xnormal. The new version of the nvidia plugin finally also supports 64bit photoshop.
Though when I do normal maps, I make the normals for each layer individually, but explaining that all here would exceed the 2k characters limit :D
Also, Crazybump is a really nice and not too expensive tool too, when you want to create normals, displacements, specular, etc. maps from phototextures.

Great. That was 12 hours ago. But this news has been posted 9 hours ago. :(
So, too bad I missed that completely.

Did you also add more ways to make money?
Still a few thousand pilots to sell for a small cap ship, I get like 8-10 pilots for 30 destroyed ships which takes quite a while ;(

Edit: And where's the server? Can't find it no more since I have installed the patch.

Wasper Apr 8 2012, 6:05am says:

The demo is really nice, the cockpit views are awesome. Though I find the demo system a bit boring, no planets there and such, nothing really there to discover, no jobs, etc. (which makes it really hard to buy some of the ships (bomber) which cost >1million credits) ;)
And I've got heavy FPS drops, especially at the spawn area and during fights (down to 10fps), even with my i7 2600k and an HD7950 :/

Nevertheless, great work so far and I can't wait for the final release. I'm impressed by the graphical changes in that old engine!

Just two more days and we'll find out :)

What about the Allied "more income" special ability (that button in the lower left)? The Allieds can use that to increase the amount of money they get from ore trucks, I think it's $17 per ore instead of $15 if you activate that (correct me if the values are wrong, don't want to start the game right now). The Soviets don't have any special abilities at all.
Is that just a forgotten relict of the stock RA3 (I must admit that I have never really played stock RA3, it's just a silly game in my opinion, TRA is how I want my RA ;)) or a feature?

PS: You guys definitely got my vote for moty!

Thanks for the offer, but I got it now, after searching on Google for hours ;) Yes, unfortunately you cannot render real time shaders but since I haven't worked with any in the past, I didn't really know. So, the only problems left are no AA in the viewport (doesn't work in Max2009, even when you set it in the video card drivers) and a pretty low resolution. But I got all that fixed too, with the Grabviewport 2.1 script you can also find on Now everything works fine (about AA issues: just "render" at least twice as large and rescale the image -> ugly edges gone) :)

Really nice hardware :)

Btw, Xoliulshader works for you? Every time I try to render any of my models, it doesn't render the textures. No matter if it's the diffuse, normal, specular, etc., the model always stays solid grey. Already tried every setting (I'm using Max) :(

Ah, great mod, brings back old memories. But music isn't playing at all here :( Yes, model details are on high... But no music at all during gameplay (skirmish mode). Why?

PS: Yet another stupid poll. Can't you ask anything modding related no more??

I would never pirate an indie game. But sometimes I'm really asking myself why still buying games when you only have problems with your original copy?
For instance: I own Half-Life 1 and all of its addons. Bought them years ago when they came out in the late 1990s. Now I wanted to play them again but the CDs are too scratched to work properly. But since you can also activate them on Steam, I tried it that way. But no chance, it always says the CD-Keys are already in use. So I contaced Steam support. And what did they tell me? They told me that they cannot help me because they don't give support for used games. They won't even believe me that the games are not used and I'm the original owner... So, someone once pirated the games and still has fun with them and I can either re-buy all games (which I won't do, paid already a lot of money back then for them) OR I also pirate them :[

+12 votes   poll: Why do you pirate games?

Hmm... It's either one role or three: 3D designer or: Model-, unwrap-, texture artist.

Mods. When a new commercial game has been released (which is worth to buy it, the last commercial game I played was GTAIV...), I play it through once without mods. Then I have some fun with mini-mods which only change some code values and then later I play it with total-conversions.

"Mod makers are just people in their rooms and basements with no money"

I don't agree with that either. For me, developing mods is a hobby (I'm a 3d- and texture-artist). I have fun with being creative. But sometimes I need a break from modding (like now :D). I can't imagine to archive the status of a commercial game developer. Indie dev, maybe. But I don't want to earn money with mods or games.
Also, even mods are expensive. Many people don't know that. You have to rent FTPs and probably buy some software. But the most expensive part is, you have to spent time - a lot of time :o)
