Greetings, I tried to contact your team recently but haven't been able to get a reply, but since your profile (AME) hasn't been updated since then I think that it must be that Grabba hasn't come online.
From the amazing screenshots its clear that you've managed to get your brand new world working. I wish we could say the same about our world. We've been having a lot of problems getting the game to load properly.
So I'm asking you humbly if you could share with us your secret. Because of the way the Void project works everyones contributions will be listed and given credit for their hard work. If you'd be willing to share either your secret or even better the file itself (we'll change the landscape to our own) then I'd be more than happy to credit the original creator/coder and post a link to Adventure Middle Earth's website - which will be displayed on our website and on every one of our read me files.
So please give this some consideration. We'd be extremely grateful for the assitance.
Well hopefully we'll have quite a large team of people helping to playtest the stuff we get in. We could end up in a situation where we can't deal with everything as it comes in, but I think we'll be very lucky in that situation and be grateful for a big community reactions.
Plus this way we can accept all the mods we like. Obviously we contact people first to check they are ok with it, but theres tons of mods already made that would make the Void world even better. And it works the other way too, if someone in our team developes an awesome mod for the Void and it becomes popular we can always release a seperate version just for Oblivion. :)
It's always so sad when that happens... It's like big game/media companies are afraid of a little competition. Tolkien's work should be free for anyone to contribute to, isn't that what he would have wanted? Great landscape so far, quite daunting in size but you can just imagine all the caves, forests and secret places in the world.
Thank you the_real_shadow - But I think you may be thinking of another mod ;)
Yup - Thats the way this works. But check our wikipedia to see what sort of stuff we'd like. We won't accept stuff thats not in the spirit of the world.
Sorry for all you guys who sent PMs to me asking to join. I should have made this clear on the actual Help Wanted posts (I'll change it ASAP).
If you want to sign up for any position just come along to our forums and sign up, create a topic telling us who you are and get involved. Theres loads of work to do and since this is a community mod I'm not about to start turning people down who honestly want to help this mod happen. So we've got an open door policy, anyone from the industry grade expert to the student has a place on this mod as long as they get along with everyone else and have an open mind.
Doh! I'm really sorry, I'm new to the ModDB and didn't even realise that I had any PMs. I'm replying to all four of them now!
The font is one that my uncle created - (http://www.myfonts.com/person/blakelock/graham/) - If you want that font I'm afraid you'll have to buy it, I'm only allowed to use it for this project and non-commerically. He's an extremely talented graphic artist and font artist, the one that we're using is the one called Ye-As-Ta.
Hopefully a bit of both right?
My thinking is that it won't be entirely vital for the player to read reams of this font in order to make their way through the story, but lots of plot points and perhaps hidden areas/weapons/information will be made avaliable through documents like this. So we won't be trying to put off casual gamers, thats always a worrying philosophy, but we will be trying to reward those who take the time and effort to learn.
Great stuff but you were just a shade too late Jasau1974! Someone else already replied onto the Void's profile, but thanks for taking part. You can have a cookie for trying anyways! :)
Did you find it difficult or easy? It would be really helpful to know, we don't want it being a half hour task just to read a note. But we want it to become a challenge, almost an art which will reward the player for investing time.
Fitly - You are the winner of one cookie! Congratulations! I was hoping to create an image for the cookie, but you may have to wait for it a little while. :)
Did you find it easy or difficult? Once you got rolling do you think you'd be able to read more documents like that?
Thanks for taking part!
@ Arketype - Yeah, if it's possible we'll probably include a few optional plug-ins with the Void's main file, one which activates this font and one which activates a plain english version. Although we may not be able to do the same with signposts and such we may be able to have hints pop-up to tell you what they say.
We hope to make the Void into an experience which you should do after you've done Oblivion from the point of view of difficulty. There will still be leveled baddies, but they will be specifically leveled to be a much bigger challenge. Every fight should feel like a fight to the death.
As I explained to a friend who asked about the fighting in this mod. Oblivion is like Half-Life Deathmatch, hopefully the Void will be much more like Counter-Strike. At least in terms of difficulty and challenge.
Thanks for your kind comments guys! Much appreciated. :)
We're definately going to need new animations and models. So your are most welcome to join the team Danastasiei, we can really do with as many modellers as possible.
I actually have an idea along those lines that may interest you.
At some point in the players journey I think it would be great if they took part in lessons at a training camp, one of which is how to cope with being blinded in combat. They put cloth around your eyes and you start to learn to listen more closely for sounds of enemies attacking. You can see just a tiny amount through the cloth, so you have to attack several opponents blindfolded.
Later on, having done that training, it would be great to have the player seriously wounded or temporarily blinded in a fight - his friends and allies will drag him away but all the sounds will still be happening and describing whats going on. And perhaps once blinded the player misses an important visual which leads to more plot twists and developement.
If your the person for the job Jambozal - Then come over to the forum and sign up. We need lots of different people to join, sound artsts included as I don't think we have any working on sounds (we have a couple working on music).
We've been really lucky - Lots of people have joined onto this project really quickly. Alot of people liked the idea of having an extremely open team, we're willing to accept people from all levels of experience and alot of the developement will come from a wider community contributing little things.
Only Morrowind/Oblivion could do this really, hopefully once we get the blank ESM/ESP we'll be able to start work properly. :)
Thanks alot for centering them - Looks alot better that way.
And thanks for posting this up for the front page. :)
