There is a lot of good stuff in this mod, but I find that overall it doesn't play as smoothly or as enjoyably as Sacrifice of Angels 2, which is the older Star Trek mod for Sins. On the other hand, it has a more realistic tech tree and interesting either/or techs for a combined Cardassia/Dominion faction.
There are several reasons for this.
Firstly this mod requires a much stronger economy than the base game, but barely implements it. Starting to grow is hard. The first available combat ships are weaker than the militia. Starting Capital Ships seem weaker than a heavy cruiser. Colonization technology is also harder to access, slowing the acquisition of planets significantly. The only compensation I have really found for the economy comes from a lower fleet cap, which is personally disappointing.
Ships come in tiers. This may not have been intended, but the early ships don't help the higher tech battles. It would be more accurate to Trek Lore to add a series of refit abilities to keep them relevant.
If I remember correctly each faction has multiple dreadnought options. This would be welcome to me in most sins mods, but I am not comfortable that it thematically fits with the Trek lore. (except maybe the dominion)
