Since 2004 I've taught myself, and others, in just about every discipline the Source engine offers.
Looks like you need to write a review now.
Protip: enable Normal Mapping in model viewer before taking screens.
I'd buy this. You guys really know your stuff!
This run really slowly on my machine (quad core 3.2ghz, GTX260). Below 30fps for sure. :(
That is no different to UDK.
I can't load the screenshot right now, but the missing phonemes are '&' and ')' - which aren't valid. Have you ever installed SAPI 5.1 on your system?
Post the contents of the log and we'll see what's up.
This is superb. Sensible puzzles, no fiddle, fantastic visuals...congratulations! :)
Do'h! It's 3369. This isn't a *new* patch.
Only one NPC can go through a pinch point at a time. If you stick one at either end of a thin corridor, navigation issues melt away. (Unless that's not the problem you were having?)
Old news. And you spelt it wrong. :P
Stairs are easy once you stick a "pinch point" hint at either end.
Americans are poor and Irish. Thus, no hats.
It looks like a bunch of boxes with bump mapping to me. :-/
I remember reading a lot of the Windows Live EULA because it was actually written in a very approachable style. Frontloading the useful information was helpful too.
Never bothered with any others.
Click on "read more". It's not a zip because the 7z archive was 60MB smaller.
VALVE IN COACH SHIRT U-TURN SHOCK!
I'm pretty sure he's lost weight too.
Fantastic! Only one thing I'd change: Developer.valvesoftware.com
Yes, please spend time reinventing the wheel and reducing your chances of success.
It hasn't died. The profile has been archived because it isn't ready to appear on the site yet.
HD and SD looks the same to me, even in fullscreen. :s
Really? I guess we know now who has a monthly subscription to cunningstunts.com!
Options > Mouse > uncheck the "use gamepad" boxes.
That should have read "ent_fire ui deactivate", sorry.
Got a workaround. After exiting the cart with the use key, bring down the console and submit this:
ent_fire ui disable
The problem is that you are still controlling the cart after you exit it. The engine doesn't stop and all movement except jump and crouch is applied to the cart while you stand stock still.
Doesn't work. Fallout 2 GOG, Vista. Selected the right folder, hit open, no effect.
You can download a .zip version here: Download.beyondunreal.com
I kind of wish I hadn't playtested this several times already. ;-) It's an excellent little project.
This is definitely the least-excellent piece of media so far. The lighting flashes are completely unconvincing because there are no shadows.
On the other hand, though Source can do them with a projected texture performance might be atrocious. :-(
Fantastic visual design. Shame about the zombies. :-P
"In Simutrans you can build the transport networks you always dreamed of."
What's wrong with lightmaps?
Always interesting to the compare the PR shots for this game with one taken by gamers.
Thankfully NSIS lets the user override the install path. Everyone who hits this problems needs to run the installer from the command line like this:
RAR-Beta2.1.exe /D=C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\
No quote marks!
The installer tries to extract the mod to C:\hl2ss\, which unsurprisingly doesn't work in Vista even when running as an admin.
No matter what I try I can't open the file as an archive either!
A Vista-size icon? Congratulations, you've just entered a /very/ exclusive group of developers. ;)
Also, Spotify is awesome.
Odd. Perhaps it's a Vista-related problem, though it's hard to see how when the installer runs with admin privileges.
Firstly, the installer is completely buggered and tries to put everything in C:\Reaction\.
Secondly, you need to delete the bin\*.pdb files and save\ folder. They're wasting about 16MB compressed and a lot more uncompressed right now! :/
Is Assassin's Creed really moddable?
Bah, wrong URL. Community.dawnofwar2.com
Good news, everyone! Shacknews.com
Jonny Ebbert: "We're looking at releasing modding tools and how much work it would entail. We didn't have the resources to do it for gold but that doesn't rule out the possibility of doing it in the future by any means. I'll definitely be looking at that when we finally finish the patch we're working on.
Making the map editor available would be the first priority. [An] object editor and attribute editor would be the next steps."
At least it was worth the wait! Supremely creepy. :)
Wonderful texture design. :) I hope a similar effort goes into sound before you release...
Not forgetting AirBuccaneers!
I can edit mine. It must be an issue with FC2's game profile.
Edit: sent an email about it.
I can see what you're trying to do here, but things have gone too far in this image. Tone those colours down some! :-)
How many people on ModDB even know that that site exists? :-p
Why didn't you upload it as a single file?
You may be interested in Jonathan Blow's latest lecture ( Braid-game.com ), if indeed you didn't write all that after listening to it. I heard it yesterday and it finally convinced me to give up working on anything on a 'big 3D' engine until I understand the design of games itself.
I don't know if I'm meant to respond to most of your text, since it wouldn't have affected me, but to your final question I say yes. You can certainly /try/ to involve the player in an NPC's survival, but it would be another leap of faith. Not such a big one as the "sophisticated motivations" I was thinking of when writing the piece, but a leap nevertheless.
On this subject, one idea I've been following up (as of about three hours ago) is NP'C's which are actually dumb AI shells that mimic the player's own actions. On paper it seems to me that these might be the silent protagonist of companions, right down to having a similar set of limitations. Not least visual representation.
This is one of the best single-player mods for HL2 out there. Congrats! :-)
Echo Transit was astoundingly good. More fun than HL1 itself in fact! Worth the entire download on its own. :)
The others varied from good (Starlabs) to meh (Cyan) to bad (Sceptre of Ra). Second Wind was interesting, and beautiful, but had a terrible ending that I strongly recommend cheating through.
They are from HL1. :-p
a 30MB WAV? Haven't you people heard of MP3? :x
This should be front page.
The wizard hasn't been updated with the new ID yet. Your mod will work with 420, but it'll require Episode Two specifically.
Don't you mean mods vs. no mods? :-p
Please don't put all your mod news in the Source Developers group. That's not its purpose. :-)
That's pretty cool. :)
Something tell me it'll be Flash.
You can filter them out by clicking "PC" in the tabs at the top.
Great idea. I'll be sure to give you a call if I ever need anything. :)
Yes, but which? :-p
So that's how it's calculated. :)
This sounds amazing! What are the players like? Hardcore RTS?
Not the most detailed design ever, but the concept and atmosphere are excellent. :)
I've read all of the mod's description up there and I still don't really know what it does.
Voted! :) If all mod projects were as manageable, unassuming but still cool as CC (or for a released example, MINERVA), we'd be overwhelmed with quality!
Yeah, well-composed. I've not really seen anyone do something like this before.
Eeew. This one could have used a little longer in the oven. :(
Is this an FPS? Doesn't sound very X-Com to me. :p
Nice screens and a great palette, but the hues are perhaps a little *too* smooth. Some contrast would be nice. :)
We've sort of forgotten about mod awards lately, but they are back on the agenda now. Please bear in mind when voting that when last awards were active, mod teams complained that we were devaluing them by giving out too many!
No, please don't make it as long as possible. Make it exactly as long as it needs to be. :)
Always nice to see some single-player. Don't forget to check VDC for some of the new AI-in-maps documentation!
Horribly slow download here. Any chance of a ModDB mirror?
Full Throttle? I'm not putting my lips on that.
Give yourself +1 if you laughed.
Do we know what's happened to this? The URL is a spam site now.
I'd love to give it a go, but there's hardly any servers and nobody playing on them!
It says 2GB, but that's counting RO itself and the uncompressed figure. You'll download 594MB.
XML, eh? Now that's edgy. ;)
I guess those of who enjoy a healthy dose of all of them just sit out in the corner, huh? :p
The official mirrors are all borked at the moment. This thread has a list of working ones.
That is one hell of a ship.
Because the concept art looks cool, silly! :p
That's very impressive...but why not use Source instead?
It's crazy, but I like it. :)
I'd *love* to see this one with proper HDR. :)
Source can do vehicles and can do physics. Of course it can have planes. There was a mod out a while ago that had a flyable Combine helicopter.
Mods aren't affected at all. The issue is with the hidden and unrated content, not the mod that unlocked it.
You're better off posting this on developer.valvesoftware.com. It's pretty much superceded VERC now. :)
Has there ever been a Quake map that wasn't brown? Seriously, I'd be interested to know.
Oh yeah, "Wow Valve spent time on this instead of the real game SHAFTING THEIR PAYING CUSTOMERS AGAYNE!!!". :|
I wouldn't want to use them at this stage, but I'm sure in future they will be essential :)
Aside from ADDING things, I would disable HEV suit zoom as it can be exploited.
Oh right, the other person was you as well. :p
The amount of time needed was quite small, and even then most of it went on designing the new particle effects.
Nevertheless, locating and fixing the problems did require quite a lot of in-depth knowledge of how the engine works.
Someone else had this problem, but I've never encountered it so there's not a lot I can do. Do you have a weak video card? Try running with a lower DX level.
This was fixed in the patch. You must have installed it wrong, somehow.
So you don't value it. Guess what? We do.
This comment thread is shameful. I cannot stand people so obsessed with money they can't bear to part with it.
I have never seen that happen in this build, nor has anyone else reported it. Can you reproduce the problem?
GIMP VTF plugin: Moddb.com
That was it, thanks! The folder was hidden so I'd not noticed it. There is still one minor problem though: everything is listed twice in the new menu.
I'm using the Kentie launcher, might that upset things? Kentie.net
Yes, they are all there. Am I supposed to be doing anything with the dexsmlutility EXEs?
I've downloaded and installed the mod loader, including editing deusex.ini so that it reads "DefaultGame=DeusExML.MLGameInfo", but there is still no new menu item. I'm using the Steam version of the game.
So, er, Unity didn't already have this?
That's not a helpful error report. But I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and guess that you own Chaos Rising but not DoW2 vanilla, in which case you'll need to follow the instructions in the readme to launch the mod.
I have no idea what is causing extraction to fail. It's internal to the Speech API, which reports no problems. :(
Well, yeah, and that confirms my point.
The Citizen's problems are caused by using very outdated builds of the engine and its tools. Very few people still bother with them, so problems that appear go unnoticed.
When things went wrong earlier this year they had to move from the 2004 build of Source to 2006, and now for closed captions they will have to start using 2007 (yes, I have tested).
Well *they* are.
Um, I think he meant that /if it had/ "pong graphics" it would still be amazing.
Freeman? FREEMAN? FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMAAAAAAAAAAAN!!
Looks like another test chamber.
(Fixed in 1.2)
Does it also say "Could not open phoneme translation file"? That the extractor continues on after that is an oversight on my part.
There is now a Vista and 7 compatible phoneme extractor: Moddb.com
Tracked down the problem with Silverfish. New download is here:
Yes, a games admin.
