The maps are actually pretty big aside from the vauquois map, which is designed especially for the rifle deathmatch gametype. I understand that some people who played the alpha, especially people from this mod community are sceptical, but the game has changed quite a lot since April last year. Also the game is in full development still, hence early access beta.
Both "Picardie" and the upcoming map in "Flanders" are roughly 2KM in depth, with 8 trench defensive lines.
In addition the game brings to the table:
> A unique setting never done before in a full commercial FPS (I did participate myself in battlefield 1918)
> Unique frontline gameplay based on trench warfare, take lines, hold of a counter attack and proceed.
> Unique squadtypes that can be choosen with 4 fixed roles within, which change the composition of each match (3 chasseurs VS 1 landser + 2 stosstruppen gives a different game from 2 poilus + 1 Canadian VS 3 landsers)
> Squads can be leveled, using a never done before co-op xp system
> Weapons and rifles which have never been used in other games.
> An interactive 3D frontline map of the western front in which all of the deployed squads are shown, allowing to quickly join friends in squads
> Levels designed to mimic all of the sectors of the western front
> Gas warfare (We will feature different types of gas as well as a unique mechanic for mask to increase immersion)
Ps. vulgar posts are not tolerated
Thanks for the support! A free weekend will certainly be an option, it is what revived Red Orchestra 2 from oblivion. However we have not yet launched, this is just and early access beta. We have a lot more in store for when the game is getting near the launch :) A free weekend is something to be done several months after the launch to revitalize the playerbase.
Oh forgot to mention; February will also add a map set in muddy Flanders (Passchendaele)
old video early beta
Cool, ive been keeping an eye on all the other projects. My intention was to get into contact earlier but i've been super busy with the game.
We're getting there, every iteration is another major improvement. :)
battlefield 1918 actually ^^
We're working hard on all of the aspects, movement of the characters is one of the major things we will be working on in the next months. The netcode is stable, the base is there, now its just all fun and adding features, maps, factions etc. :)
jep, we are working on it. Especially the terrain/levels.
The mg08/15 had belt for carrying, unlike the mg08. Ir63.org
Cavalry is not something we have planned for the game.
yes, we are working on manual bolting. Damage of the weapons is already pretty hardcore in that everything (minus arms and legs) is lethal most of the time. The sight/breathing system will be tweaked as well as to allow for more tactical/realism gameplay we envisage. Also crosshairs can be disabled and are already off for some weapons.
Gas warfare will be in for sure. We are working on the gameplay mechanics.
very soon :) Doing map overhaul at the moment. French weapons (chauchat, lebel) and the others will follow after that.
Play the game at: Beta.verdungame.com
we had some poorly timed server maintenance by our provider. Should be operational by now. Thanks for your patience.
In verdun your squad will level from the appearance and equipment of 1914 to the a squad resembling a 1918 formation. Since there were all low level french squads (which change their red /blue uniform already in lvl2) in this image they have their 1914 uniform.
Update: we have found the game exit issue. Fixed in next version.
Hey, thanks for the feedback.
1] Known Bug, hopefully solved in the near future. Doesn't cause any major problems.
2] As this is a beta we are testing different kinds of weapons and attachments. Therefore in free for all mode the german rifleman has a scope.
I assume you are on linux? Please download the full client again (just 250mb)
At the moment the patcher for the Linux version is not working. Not sure if we will be able to fix that anytime soon. Solution is to download the full version again. (Luckily these are not that big).
Please do give us more feedback after playing the game.
Hi thanks for reporting this. This is a known problem. Try downloading the full client. We had a major update of the patcher as well.
we have a whole bunch of weapons ready including the berthier, chauchat etc, we want to polish the weapon mechanics and gameplay first which has come a long way thanks to the webplayer alpha/beta. This game is growing every day so please do help us with feedback and your ideas on how to make the game better. Tell us what you would like to see.
Yea we are aware of the limitations and quirks of the unity webplayer. We will be launching standalone versions soon with autopatching. This should solve most, if not all of the performance issues people are experiencing as well as making sure the playerstyle of people will be more active. Stay tuned!
If you are from europe, it may be laggy at the moment. We switched to our U.S servers at the moment because 80% of the beta players is from north america. Once we have more players, we will activate both again. On performance, the web player works best when all other tabs/bg programs are closed as it is quite heavy still. Thank you for tracking and be sure to join the game every once in a while as we update ± one time per day.
yes we are improving every aspect of the game step by step. This is just the beginning in terms of graphics :) Our main focus is getting to a game that is fun to play first :)
custom input is high on our todo :)
A tutorial will be up soon
If you have a laptop with Optimus then make sure to right click your browser's shortcut and choose "Run with graphics processor -> High-preformance NVIDIA processor". This will make sure the game won't use your integrated videocard only.
Development will continue soon...
Well all the dynamic lights in the scene as you can see in the screenshots and video are using the unity 3's (3.1 already) deferred rendering to keep the performance up.
