- The green light is intentional, the brightness isn't. This area of black mesa is old and putrid. The texture and its lighting values will be changed.

- This also helps with highlighting areas for the player, with green being reds complimentary colour. The same way a lot of oranges and yellows are uses to guide the player in the darker blue lab areas shown previously.

I'll admit I was watching this on my tablet when I first heard it so I was having trouble trying to pin point the issue, but now I can hear it on a decent headset, it appears to mostly be a volume issue. The reload sounds would be fine, but they seem as loud (or perhaps louder) than the gun shots.

You may disagree, but I believe the Battlefield games are always pretty spot on with their sound design. Here's a video showing off various weapons. You'll notice than in some cases, the echo of the gunfire often drowns out the start of the reload completely.

(Ignore the CoD stuff... I mean honestly who even?) :P

Also just FYI, I've just made the transition from semi-interested visitor to a follower on your profile. :P

While I do like the idea, the delivery is totally wrong. You establish that the mod is a tribute to mapping and how people need to take the time and effort to make their mods fun, yet you literally force the player through a series of terrible maps in order to make your point, and what's worse is that the resulting final map is the worst of the lot!

The melee weapon is not only clunky and slow, but makes no logical sense whatsoever.

You requested a terrible mod playthrough in my profile but quite frankly this isn't worth the effort.

Bad for the sake of bad is not fun, and this is as bad as it gets.

I actually enjoyed this. The last room was a hell of a challenge with the invisible spies but it was still good fun. Really nice use of custom textures and the mapping is superb. My only gripe is that it was far too short, but considering the author only had 7 days to complete it, he has done a fantastic job.

A whole new layer of crap has been discovered beneath what I used to think was the worst of it. This mod contains a few custom models which are simply the standard models that have had their textures butchered in MSPaint.

The maps are literally just boxes with enemies in. There is no plot, no theme, no consistency, no sense of place, no fun, not even a proper compile with lighting. I can quite honestly say that this map set is worse than my first ever attempt at mapping.

As a map, it's pretty poor. As a mod, it's inexcusable!

Sorry but you're wrong. The letter sent to Gordon Freeman, which appeared in the official manual when HL was first released, was dated May 5, 200-. (i.e. sometime between 2000 and 2009. The resonance cascade occured 10 days later on the 15th.

The before pic is hideous and yellow and the mapping is terrible. It makes no sense to have a huge vent duct opening into an office so it was changed to this storage area.

We are trying to move away from the Black Mesa seen in half-life and it's expansions and create a more expensive and impressive looking environment.

Before = 1998
After = 2011

I appreciate your comment, but "half-life's style" is 13 years out of date.

I hope that further media released in future is more to your liking.

The 2 engines are massively different.

Source features a far superior lighting system, supports a massive amount of detail, has a built in physics system, the list is huge.

BTW, there is only 1 model in this screenshot (the plant) the rest is brushwork.

The zombie placement is temporary. I like to place all my enemies and allies first while playtesting areas. Then once the combat and pacing feels right I add in scripts and such to make things more interesting.

Not the way it works. You will be releasing Valve's commercial content for free.

Still, you need new models anyway. The CSS and HL2 prefabs will only get you so far if you want to recreate Half-Life and neither of them fit in particularly well in this room.

There are some really good ideas here but they are excecuted very poorly. The mapping is abysmal and although it is only a demo and unfinished, every single room needs reworking and needs a ton of detail adding. Very few of the rooms look like they serve a real purpose and those that do are massivly oversized.

Try to think about real locations / sci-fi movie sets when creating each room. I find it also helps to think of yourself as the designer of a real live facility (e.g. What would be a cost effective way to store these materials? Would I place a security door here or there? How can I get power to this machine without exposing wires? etc. etc.)

Terrifying. They offer a lot more variety in combat if done right. Zombies are slow / fast, have to get right up in your face and can be dispatched with bullets and melee weapons. SNOOORE

Dinosaurs vary in size, speed, armaments and armour plating. You couldn't take down a Tyrannosaurus with a knife now could you? If you did, you'd have to be really crafty about it. It would be epic.
