Hey guys. I've added some feedback to a couple of your screen shots. Since this is your first mod / map pack you might want to consider adding more detail to your rooms, as well as applying a little more real world logic? E.g. areas that would be more convenient for people to work in and such?

The events of HL1 are listed as occurring sometime between 2000 and 2009 (According to Freeman's acceptance letter) Widescreen displays were commonly available from 2003 onwards. I work on the principle that HL1 occurred at the latest possible date, 2009.

It's a moot point however. See Archie's response. :P

Urby Sep 21 2013, 8:08pm replied:

Battlefield is an established tactical FPS series and it's not realistic in the slightest. ARMA would be more along the lines of realism, and that's a pretty damn clunky attempt in itself.

When I say a realism mod, I'm speaking in terms that most people seem to on moddb. The people who think adding ironsights to any game like Half-Life or CounterStrike makes it realistic.

In a realistic FPS, you'd take a shot to the leg, lose control of your player character while he rolls around on the ground before finally falling unconscious and bleeding out.

In a realistic sandbox, you'd have one car accident, destroy the car totally and liquify your insides.

Reality is not a game and if it were it would suck. You'd get one life and if you died the game would self destruct and you'd never get to play it again.

It's really up to the developer whether or not they show gameplay videos. Our project has been in development for around the same amount of time and while we certainly COULD show off gameplay footage, we've chosen not to.

I kinda like development videos over just regular gameplay footage. That way you can get an idea of the features that will be included, while at the same time letting your imagination run wild in terms of how it will effect gameplay.

Also, that last sentence is odd. The hesitation (it.. it..) is as if he is speaking, whereas if he was writing he would know in his head what he was going to say: e.g. "Ink just doesn't suit my personality very well."

If he was writing quickly or hesitantly, he would probably blot / cross out the mistakes.

Well, I downloaded this expecting it to be bad and was unpleasantly surprised at just how bad it can get.

I don't quite understand, from a goldsource mapper's point of view, how some people manage to make maps with this many errors in them. A whole ruck of missing faces on simple brushwork, as well as some curious carving issues and jutting out brushes that look about 1 unit thick. Were these maps made using the smallest grid size? It's the only explanation I can come up with. Very poor practice all round.

Also, the stupidity of the AI in some sections is pretty incredible. The grunts are pretty smart enemies in terms of the GoldSource engine, yet here, the final engagement before the god awful ending was with 8 grunts, all of whom were trapped behind their desks by their own chairs. *Slowest clap ever*

The first engagement is impossible on hard mode with the machine gun (which looks like an M26... which is a shotgun but whatever). I simply ran through it. There is no way that you can take on the choppers, and judging by the number of scripted deaths that feature in this mod, I dare say it's intentional.

No fun whatsoever, especially during the slow cutscenes spliced in throughout.

Realism sounds cool. So I imagine I'll be able to shoot an enemy in the leg to wound him and then use him as bait to draw out his friends? Mind you, it'll be pretty tricky when the enemy has you pinned down. One bullet to the head or chest and you're a dead man right? Otherwise if you take a shot to the leg or an arm then you have to tend to your wounds and then stay back from the front line for a few days huh?

Source mapping demands scrupulous attention to detail and hours and hours of work on a single area to create something that looks stunning and plays well.
