I'm a student in IT Carlow, Ireland studying computer systems.
I play a lot of games and I'll be tossing my abominations onto moddb eventually, but for now I gotta get better at coding.
Universal Perk 1:
Stealth. Takes between 10% and 60% longer for an enemy to react to your presence in line of sight. If you leave their sight before then, they do not aggro.
Set the percentage as something long enough to move past small openings in cover, not enough to just run out and shoot everything.
Is this even possible? Would be nice for sneaking past doorways/windows if you don't have the equipment to deal with something right then.
Yay! Steam keys for those who pre-purchased? Also, I bought a while ago, but was the free copy a full version or only a beta?
Playing Act 1 right now.
Amazing game so far, but I find the idea of an RPG style leveling system annoying when you only have set, non-random battles.
Every battle feels like a roll of the dice, Auria is ineffectual in battle, other characters are too weak to win fights on their own (Can't win the battle just after following Weapon through the portal). The overall feel of the game is too linear. I never even realised there were side quests available until later on.
Also, so far many of the stats dont seem to have a use. Charisma, security, etc. Harvesting boxes tell me they've already been used on my first try using them, so Harvesting is useless too.
At this point I've given up on the battle system entirely. Is there a god mode cheat so I can at least finish the storyline?
Finally found a way out. Now stuck in sewers, just after the second door breach by the military. All military dead, me on one side of the gate I opened, NPC on the other side, gate now closed. No exits available and the street is clipped so I can't climb there, guessing the NPC is needed again but he never followed me from the initial firefight.
Ok, been playing this for a few hours and I have yet to leave the apartment building. The NPC that runs in from the zombies is here, I have every gun available up to this point and both the knife and crowbar, and I've found the second crowbar.
I can't find the way out. I've tried breaking the glass at the door, I've tried running the NPC over the other crowbar, I've checked every other corner in the building for items or anything to activate.
I just don't know what to do next!
It's not orange? YOU'VE RUINED THE MAGIC! WAAAAAaaaaaa.....!
Pre-purchased. I've been following this for ages, but even if I wasn't, anything with Tripwire written on it I will buy.
Can't wait to play this. Don't know how many cup-noodles my ~€17 will buy but hopefully it brings you that little bit closer to whatever goals you happen to have.
I can just imagine CS still hiding in their old base. Scar has gone AWOL and they all got tired of screaming "Help us!" when the Renegades took the swamps again. They also probably have only one pistol and 5 bullets between all of them.
MW2 is dumb and a waste of time... but this option is free?
I think he meant it looked happy. Not sure how a mod can look happy either though... They have no souls, kind of like gin-DON'TF*CKINGSAYIT!
Why not replace the knife model with this as well, but only when this weapon is available? is it possible or will VAC kill you?
Sure, add some frightening creatures too, but it was always the human element that did it for me in these games. The fact that, no matter how fearsome the mutant and no matter how scary the stories from survivors, all you really need to sort it out is a hit squad from Duty or Freedom and the occasional RPG.
Even in elements as wild and unforgiving as these, humans adapt and evolve their tactics to match.
I'm guessing Monolith will still fill the place, and no corner will be save from an SVD or Vintorez. I always found the AI in Chernobyl seemed pretty stupid at those ranges, but I know you've sorted that. I might actually have to duck into cover now!
OMG! I love you. Now fill it with snipers!
Renegade base? :D
Get a pc, Macs are great for most things but they fail utterly at gaming.
A decent gaming pc for 1920x1080 gaming can be built for €400. A laptop running games well at 1366x768 can be bought for about €600.
A brand new Macbook Pro on the other hand costs €1300 and has a feeble GeForce 320m (Which is just an Apple rebranded 310m). It's sole purpose in a Macbook is to avoid listing Intel HD in the specs. It's barely any better.
Desktop Macs are a little better, but the top of the line in Macs is a HD5750 which is the lowest you'd want for 1920x1080 gaming. And that's only in the 27" Mac which I doubt anyone here could justify buying simply for better framerates.
I'm not saying Macs are bad, they're just not designed for gamers. At least not the kind of gamer to be found on a site like this.
I got... ehh.... Never mind...
Why does this sound like the CoP storyline? Except, you know... more fleshed out, deeper back story and, well, you know... Out way before CoP?
The game Devs probably played this and thought "Hmm... Remove some immersion here, less foliage here, make the areas bigger, add new fancy graphics... Sell!"
Any possibility of making weapons with minor random adjustments? (Random adjustments could also be read as fixed/permanent upgrades or downgrades)
For instance if you run into a group of LR300 wielding mercs and down them all, some LR300's will have reduced handling due to a broken stock or damaged grip/handle, while others could have integrated silencers or barrel mods. Some could even have increased reload times due to a bent/sticky bolt. Or even a bashed in rail, removing the ability to add a scope.
Replace the stat bar chart with a simple list of the problems and upgrades with each gun, don't allow the player to see the gun's worth (or just keep it the same across all guns) and let the player figure out through usage which gun is the best for them.
I say this because I always find that whenever I play, I'm just using the best gun (quick look at the stat bar chart) in the best condition (quick look at the gun health bar). There is no weighing up of advantages/caveats.
With this system, you may decide to drop the more accurate, better overall condition gun because you're in an area of tight corridors and something that can reload without the clip or slide getting stuck will give you a better chance of survival. Bring back some actual thought to 'survival' games.
There is no micromanaging of stats as you see no stats. You simply learn through use which guns are more reliable and which are more powerful and which are more accurate. And even within the same gun type, there are differences that can't be read from a one dimensional health bar.
In most cases that's an issue with memory, at least in my experience. You don't happen to be playing this on a 32 bit system do you? Problems all went away when I swapped out XP 32 for Win7 64 as single processes can address more than 2GB each in Win7 64.
By the way I like your rig! Even down to the LiteOn DVD drive. I dunno whether you just went cheap or actually chose them but they make quality drives lol.
Decadent survivor guiding <main character> through a certain amount of the game... haven't I heard this one before? (Bioshock and Nightmare House 2 spring immediately to mind...)
Sorry. I'm not calling you unoriginal in any way, I understand there's a lot more to the player's interaction with the game than a one sentence summary of a small portion... I could pick any chunk of any game and relate it to a game before it...
Just, for once... Keep our decadent survivor a good guy to the end! Please?! That would be quite refreshing :D
Giving peanuts to the Snark? You're my hero. I'm gonna AFK for hours just to watch that.
Yup, looks like a coilgun.
// Shameless Request Begins
Oh yeah. Regardless of what games inspired this in whatever ways, you've gotta give us a Vintorez subsonic rifle. Make it as rare as you want, make ammo nigh on nonexistent, but give us the gun. I need me a threadcutter. With the option of going ironsights, please. :D

Ok, from this FAQ alone, my image of this game just went from 'Decent looking HL2 mod turned standalone game' to 'Game of the year 20XX'.
I was expecting HL2 style AI with minor changes to suit the new environment. I was expecting decent visuals, enough to look like STALKER with HL2's clean lines. I was expecting a short but sweet gaming experience.
Now I expect this to stand beside Half Life, STALKER, Silent Hill and Deus Ex as one of the hallmarks of gaming. For once in a long time, a game worth the $/€50 quid I'd expect to pay for a AAA+ game. And believe me, I think you should set that price. If you pull this off right, you've earned every cent.
Also... An update? FINALLY!!! :P
PS: sorry for yet another STALKER comparison, but we've only got Kalashnikova and architecture to go by so far on the visuals, so you can see why it's a common mention xD.
figured it out :) I was tapping the mouse instead of holding it (*_*)/
Just bought minecraft today and I've been playing around with the alpha. One question though... I can't break any blocks with my fists. How do I get something to break blocks with or am I doing something wrong? Is there a beginners guide? xD this is not like the free version xD
Any chance of editing this page to mention the engine changes or making a new page for the current build?
The game is alive, but the Source build is dead. I have no idea if tracking this mod will give me updates when you eventually get to the point of releasing them or if you'll have a new page for the custom engine build. In other words, we all know the game lives on, but the page could be dead for all anyone knows. Reading the comments is pretty obvious, but it's nowhere near as efficient as a static article.
You have a huge fan base here and it would be a pity to let that slide due to sketchy communication... Maybe an official update stating the engine changes, and another update linking to whatever media outlet you set up, when you eventually set it up?
Patiently and eagerly awaiting this game.
Ok I would seriously love to see someone build a singleplayer campaign with NT assets. The atmosphere is utterly perfect already, all you'd need is a GITS / Deus Ex style storyline.
Gotta agree about the grenades. I understand you want to go for realism, and the destructive force of any fragmentation device would be felt for a good distance, but as a gameplay mechanic they may be a bit too powerful. Not much point in AI that take cover if they can't get out of the blast radius in time.
At the very least if explosives are rare (I'm talking maximum inventory of one, with rare drops) you can play it off as a 'trump card' only used in dire situations...
