Doom II

Game review

DOOM II, It's quite the great game. I mean, In a way, this and the first DOOM basically MADE the FPS genre along with the '92 release Wolfenstein 3D. Now, don't get me wrong, I love this game, It took me about a week or so to finish It after I went on a DOOM marathon, but there IS some problems with It, like level design, which goes from great, to alright, to downright AWFUL. And the fact that It really didn't bring anything new to the table, so It felt more like a expansion pack for DOOM 1.
But what DOOM II brings new to the table Is a more wider, more open level design, new enemies such as The Mancubus, Pain Elemental, and Revenant, and a new weapon while at the same time not so new, The Super Shotgun.

Story:
You take the role as the DOOM Marine (or Doomguy as we call him) once again as he finds out that the Demonic Invasion he was fighting on Phobos and Deimos, and Hell Itself, are causing havoc and bloodshed on Earth. Once again, you have to slash and blow away every demon again and have some revenge for your pet rabbit Daisy.

The story Is a bit complicated here, so you'll have to see It for yourself.

Gameplay:
It's basically like DOOM 1, you shoot demons, you look for colored Keycards, you open doors, you find the exit, repeat. But there's also some puzzle elements thrown In as well, which In a way freshens up the game and actually makes you think.

Difficulty:
I have nothing to say here, other then, It'll tear your *** up If you're not too careful or not a pro at FPS.

Level Design:
It goes from Eh, to Great, to flat out VERY, VERY HORRIBLE. Let me try to explain It: the levels can be unfair at times, there's gimmicks that fall flat, and overall they look ugly and such. But In the end, It's the great levels that shine on In the game.

Verdict:
Sure, It's not THE BEST DOOM GAME EVAR!!!!!ONEONE, but It surely Is the landmark of the FPS genre, along with other classics like Duke Nukem, Quake, Blood, and other great titles.
And for that, I give It a 10/10.
