Its only a small part of the galaxy actually. The bulges you see are the star clusters and nebulas.
Yes! Stranj made this model and he is truly awesome!
This is actually not a planet cloud but a nebula. There will be as many sky domes we can produce. The planets don't move fast enough for you to see the day and night cycle. But if you could see them move yes.
Yes its a RTS kind of a game, you get ships, they die, you get more ships, then you win!
Thanks, looking at how to make atmo now.
Its just a dead Ice planet. Other planets will have atmosphere just need do more work.
I just began reworking the particle system - this will look much better.
Looks very cool. The sound track in the #01 reminded me of Myst.
No its a render. But it will look just as good if not better in Panda3d.
Yes this is great! Woo-Whooo!
Only one was used.
Many AFF's ships front looks sort of like faces. Thats a quality that makes them have more character.
To me it looks more like 2 ships combined. But maybe this could work as large repair/supply carrier.
This was just a sketch to explore different forms. This looks like a mix between fox and ranger and alot of elements from other USN ships.
Check out Panda3d and see if there is any thing you like to help with!
Orblivion (not to be confused with Oblivion)
Yes its looks a little like Sobek
Maybe we can use a model without wings for a Katana "light" version
Blobbing is still a tactic. You just have to make sure enemy is not spamming AoE ships to counter it :)
Fire is fun! That reminds me i need more burning things in 2aw.
+1 For Oblivion.
This is a possible Planet Storm level concept. We might just use that idea if we make the level.
Its one of very few AISN fighters. When the ship was built it was meant more like a hot rod - not part of military - but it was so cool we had to include it.
Its one of our in game systems.
I will do a post on how i texture the rocks in the future.
It just set ups the turrets
Yes its similar in spirit but has many separate points.
1. persistent universe - what you do in any battle has effect on the vast aff unvierse
2. command point capture style RTS/no building - similar to World in Conflict
3. completely different engine designed for the game instead of AFF skin on Homeworld2
4. Team vs Team free play, join any time during the battle
RTS is played on 3 main points:
1. matching ship composition (fighter > bomber > capital ship > destroyer > frigate > fighter)
2. positional game play (kiting, arcing, fleet motion, ditection)
3. usage of abilities (shield over charge, attack buffs, repair, boarding)
Homeworld2 mostly based on resource gathering, and switching up to the next tech at the right time.
Panda3d (the engine behind 2aw) can also run in the browser. Running 2aw in a browser is untested though. That said I don't think browser will add any thing of value to the game. Its meant to be played full screen and is 'focused' - always requires your attenuation.
We thought about this before. For some reason it did not work as well but i don't remmber. Maybe I should try it again.
Yes those are some games that use more UI then less.
Hmm maybe more like a half-retail indie game. Download only.
I also did full time job and collage - it is hard! (looking back i should have taken lones).
The design of the game allows you to get in fast and play for short periods of time. In RTS and especially niche RTS games you have to wait for room to open, wait for people to jump in, map download etc... and then the game to starts. In 2aw you can join a battle at any time. Just join and build your fleet.
MMO aspects of the game are also more slow pace and ignorable in nature.
We thought about and off line campaign mode, but for a much later version based on the success of original.
I think the big value in IndieDB is that it brings out Indie developers to the front page better. On ModDB its hard to find who is Indie, who is mod and who is actual game profiles page created by fans. This site really brings it all into the open.
I like the new one better.
Loosing your Lead Artist sux man! i don't want to be in your place right now.
This is a "render" of the in game model. Not how it looks in game but how they rendered it in Max or some thing.
It could even work better going the other have and have them thing be fins.
off-roads? Where we're going, we don't need off-roads we have the sky!
Maybe they will fix the comment sorting?
Its not magic. What really great is there is a great community that explain and fix tons of bugs. Two main dudes "drwr" and "rdb" are just rock stars!
Would you live here?
When its done :)
Can't be long now ... although i said that before. Mehhh!
Thanks every one for liking the model! We try.
Really it looks far larger than that with all the fins. In Aff universe that would be like a cursor, but it sort of does have that organic quality to it.
Our sister project is an FPS, while this here is an RTS.
Realistic space battles would look like playing excel + charts with 1 year ping.
Thats only if you fire one missile per tube :)
Its all 3d, and you zoom in and out sort of like google maps instead of "switch views."
And some stars rotate around other stars. Take the closest star system to us. It has 2 binary stars and a 3rd far away star that orbits them.
I don't think this station is in Planet Storm. They have other stations. But you probably see more and more cross pollination of art.
No fighters are units. We had alot of go around to how the fighters should play out. They are real units now.
There is 24 coffee stations optimally distributed throughout the ship.
Anuker? Did some one say Anuker?
I actually felt very therapeutic drawing them.
Yes this ship will and on carriers.
We have though at about this but its out of scope for version 1. Probably a easy place to expand once the game goes live via patches.
Its probably the most complete
Sorry, this is the only concept i have at the moment.
Our texture artists deserves more then that!
Actually the game with unreal engine is Planet Storm. Mine is a sister project on its own engine.
You can help by spreading the word!
Yes it is. Thats how most RTSes are structured.
I would love to get ground levels in. But thats is beyond the scope of the game for now. Maybe for version 2.
Round and round we go.
Yeah having interesting levels is a hard thing to do mainly because there will be so many levels they would have to be some what auto generated. And auto generating interesting levels is kind of hard.
USN is big - but its kind of slow.
The info panel is drag-able you can put it any place you like.
Yes it would, this is just a wip.
Love for HW is very common among the team.
Check it out in (view original)
Yes its 3d. Not not like Homeworld which felt 2.5D - but a real 3d map not restrictions.
