I started programming games when I was a young kid. Well, I wasn’t that young, but now it feels like ages have passed since then. I can’t remember the day I said “I wanna make a game!”, but I guess I started GameDev simply because I liked playing them. And here I am, studying computer science and dreaming of a job in the game development industry. I consider myself a realist, and I know that my chances aren’t all shiny when judging the quality of my past projects. But I’m still learning, and most important, always full of ideas, so I often drop projects and start over with something new. I’m a passionate programmer, that is my “job specialization”, and when I try to create game assets and graphics, what comes out eventually is widely called ‘programmers art’. If you’re put off by that, I’d advise you not to take a look at my current projects. (Hint: I'm always looking for someone to help me out with the graphics)

Great and unique comic style. Love the animations.
Is this really done with Gamestudio A8? This engine is not really great for 2d graphics.

thank you for your feedback. I'm planning a complete rewrite of the game, it's planned to run on linux, mac, windows and maybe ouya. The stability of the server will also be improved.

Ich habs nicht getestet, aber es müsste auch unter Windows 8 laufen. Eine Anmeldung ist nicht nötig, aber ich weiß nicht ob gerade ein server online ist auf dem du spielen kannst.

Thanks a lot for your motivating words.

The game is not dead indeed, it's just that there has been very little progress lately.
I still have lots of plans, the next version is supposed to feature dynamite sticks as a new single use weapon and will have "suicide bomber" enemies which are very dangerous to large structures. Also, there might be other powerups besides just "health packs".

There is no ETA to release, so expect at least a few months.

The concept of the game is great! I'm really interested how the gameplay will feel. Maybe I'll get seasick ;) . I'm also interested in the controls. You should write a little article describing the game (best would be including screenshots), that will bring it on the front page and give you a lot of hits.

I'd say you need to work on a GUI before you release an alpha or something.

hi ghulius,
thank you for reporting. I never noticed this, but I'm going to look into it.
It might be an engine restriction though.
Is survive behaving very different from other first person games in mouse movement?

Thank you for the kind words!

We are having only very little free time currently, so the development has stalled within the last weeks. I really don't want this game to die and I'm hoping to continue working next month.

Thank you for reporting, this sometimes happens when there is something wrong with the server list.
You'll have to try again an hour later or something.
And if you have problems with a resolution, just delete the "options.cfg" file and your settings are reset.

Ti1m4n Apr 9 2011, 3:51pm replied:

Another user had the same problem, there is one possible reason:
You have "data execution prevention" activated for all programs. In that case Survive! will crash when it tries to compile the shader effects.

Here is an official microsoft site guiding you through the steps to disable it for a single program. You can also set it to "Only enabled for important services (or similar)", that is no security issue either.

Thank you for all that feedback, its very welcome :)

I'm aware of most serverlist issues, I have yet to find the cause but I will at some point, I'm sure.
The other issues are also noted down and will be fixed.

I'm thinking about a sniper, would make sense.

Mines will find their way into the game, but different then you probably imagine ;)

I'm mainly planning two things:

- Powerups
- New innovative crate types and ways to combine them

Details will be released in the following weeks!

Ok, I've added a hack to the server list, it now only shows the first 6 servers and should not crash anymore. No need to download a new version.

I'm working on a real fix now.

Hey, this is not your pc, it also crashes for me. It seems to be a bug in the game.

As far as i can say now the game will crash when there are more than 6 servers in the list.. got to find out why.

Please try again now, it might work.

The first waves will probably work fine if you set the resolution very low, disable shader and set shadows to low.

On higher waves, you will surely get some lag, I can't say if it will get so bad you can't play.. only testing will help. And be sure to read this:

Important bulletin: If you get an error regarding "msvcr100.dll", install the Microsoft C++ 2010 Redist Kit and delete that file from the game folder.

Thank you for those screenshots, some are really fun watch!

About my plans for this game: There will be more different crate/turret types, not sure which yet. There won't be many more weapons, dynamite is planned. mines are a pretty good idea too, going to think about it. and one or two boss enemies will be added.

The game will stay with only one open level for version 1.0.

I had that problem too, please try it again now and tell me if it works.

I'm not sure what caused this, but maybe someone used a server name with strange characters or there were too many servers..
I'll try to find the cause as soon as possible!

If you get an error regarding "msvcr100.dll", install the Microsoft C++ 2010 Redist Kit and delete that file (msvcr100.dll) from the game folder.

You will find a download link for the Microsoft C++ 2010 Redist in the news above.
Please try this and tell me if it works then. You can not open a server when you see that error!

Have you installed the "Microsoft C++ 2010 Redist". You can find the download link in the description where it says you need to delete msvcr100.dll. Its an official microsoft downlad and takes only a few seconds to install.

Its a good idea, but sadly it is too complex and will take to long to include. I'm going to add a server-list as soon as possible, so people will be able to open their own servers if they have a fast internet connection.
